Interesting point, Oakland does have a 2nd round pick but it is not their original pick. I am not sure how that works. I didnt know that teams had to give away their original pick, but someone apparently said that is the case.
It was Arnie. I remember because I quoted his post, lol.

Perhaps we should vote on it? I don't know if it's ever happened IRL. I've also never seen an official rule on it anywhere,

Can we verify this somehow? I haven't heard of that rule before either but it only makes sense.

Wait seriously no1 bid on Pitta, Art Jones, or Dickson. Sweet.
Arnie changed his mind on Pitta I know but I'm not surprised on the others.

Wait what. Did Arnie forget? I thought he wanted Pitta. Maybe he changed his mind.

lol don't worry that's the first thing i thought of when i realized the jags had the 33rd pick, "the 33rd for evan dietch smith? uhh done deal"
Fine by me, now I have one less need in Free Agency with a talented proven player and not wasting it on someone hoping he pans out.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by this. Art Jones I thought was real gem.

Titans 4-3 he may have been okay, but he is a fairly decent 3-4 DE. I think he really took over quite well for Redding.

I doesnt really make sense to me. The tender doesnt specify the team has their original draft pick. I think the team (if they decline to match) should get whatever the highest pick the other team has in that round.

I love the potential of Jones but I wouldn't give up a 2nd in a mock like this for him. Especially for my team is I don't have one and he doesn't have 4-3 experience.

He played 4-3 DT in college. I think he can play any of the three DT positions. But, I do agree. He played very well in place of Redding. I really hope we extend him this offseason.

I agree. I think it should be that the team who receives the pick gets to choose the pick. I think it's only fair. They're losing the player, after all.

wait does oakland even have their second round pick? and 8 stars is a lot for sam shields, I would much rather trade him for a top 5 second round pick, and i don't think i will even match smith's bid, I would much rather take the 33rd pick
No I have oaklands 2nd round pick

Not really. The rule states that all that has to be offered is a second rounder so long as the RFA signs. The team signing should get to choose. Remember RFA isn't designed to benefit the team with an RFA. Its only meant to compensate.

Either way, as long as the team has a pick in that round they should be able to offer the RFA.

This looks like official league representation of the restricted free agency rules.
(c) No First Refusal Exercise Notice. If the Prior Club does not give the Restricted Free Agent the First Refusal Exercise Notice within the applicable period, the player and the New Club shall be deemed to have entered into a binding agreement, which they shall promptly formalize in a Player Contract, containing (i) all the Principal Terms; (ii) those terms of the NFL Player Contract not modified by the Principal Terms; and (iii) such additional terms, not less favorable to the Restricted Free Agent than those contained in the Offer Sheet, as may be agreed upon between the Restricted Free Agent and the New Club (subject to Section 5 below), and the Restricted Free Agent’s Prior Club shall receive from the New Club the Draft Choice Compensation, if any, specified in Section 2 above of this Article. Any Club that does not have available, in the upcoming Draft, the selection choice or choices (its own or better choices in the applicable rounds) needed to provide Draft Choice Compensation in the event of a timely First Refusal Exercise Notice may not sign an Offer Sheet in such circumstances. The player and the New Club may not renegotiate such Player Contract to reduce the Salary in such contract until after the end of the first regular season covered by the Contract. Neither the player nor the New Club may exercise an option in such Player Contract that reduces Salary in the first League Year of such contract until after the end of the first regular season covered by the Contract.
Yeah. And that makes sense. It would be shady to trade back to 32nd pick in the 2nd round to simply give them that pick, lol.

So where does that leave us in the Sam Shields case? Oakland doesnt have their original 2nd so the bid is null even though they do have a 2nd round pick?

I suppose but at the same time, wouldnt it be easier for them to just give the 64th pick and in the event they dont have it for whatever reason, I see no reason why the above is shady unless there is collusion ie trading back to Oakland in the second round just to give Oakland that second round pick back for an RFA.
