I would take Brown over Minter. Maybe Ogletree will fall to us he's had to many off field issues. He just got charged with a DUI.

1. Out of those free agents you listed, I don't see McKinnie back and I am not so sure Ellerbe returns. I'm on the fence with him. Not that I don't want him back, but I can see the Ravens let him go. It really depends on what he wants. His knocks are injuries and inconsistency until this year. I love Ellerbe, just not sure he returns.

2. I don't think Minter is the best ILB anymore. I used to think so, but I watched a ton of tape on a lot of ILBs and while I like his play recognition, awareness, tackling & hitting, he isn't worth a 1st. He's a late 2nd or 3rd round prospect IMO. I like Brown best, but I almost would rather we go with a guy like Kiko Alonso or AJ Klein than take a LB early. My reason is because I think whatever LB we draft will ride the bench except on rotations this year anyway, especially if we sign Ellerbe.

3. Swearinger & Faulk. Either of these guys could sneak into the 1st or go in the 2nd round before we pick. I can see Swearinger sneak up boards. Really. A lot depends on their combines this week.

4. I like Jenkins but I feel like this is a prime place to get a DT/NT. I think a very good player will be here. Just got that feeling. The draft is deep with pass rushers, too. I'd rather spend this pick on Montori Hughes than Jenkins TBH, and I really do like Jenkins a lot. Williams is a nice prospect but I feel like we could do better here at WR. It's usually a position fans overrate and I just think a better prospect is there.

As for the rest of your picks, they're OK. Hard to judge. Not a fan of Vince Williams.

I thin McKinnie will be back cheap and ellerbe we will get bc Kruger we miss out on I think. Minter has a nose for the ball and calls out plays really well which ray did. I really like DJ and Faulk and I think Faulk will slip bc of the injury. Jenkins would be great pick. Wy don't you like Williams

After watching McKinnie's interview with the breakfast club or whatever it didn't sound like he wanted to play cheap, TBH. He even said he had some calls from teams. I don't think he's back. Ozzie even said he likes the OL they got. I'm telling you, I don't think we take an OL early. I really don't. Faulk, I think, goes in the early 2nd round or mid-2nd. I don't see him lasting to our 2nd round pick and even if he does I'm not so sure the FO takes him and he certainly would be unlikely to make it to our 3rd round pick. I think all this talk about getting Faulk will leave us faulked in the end (lol, get it?)

Ellerbe has the best chance of returning due to ILB contracts are usually smaller and there's less of a market for them now. However, with that said, I could see him go to another team or even the FO let him walk and keep Ed Reed over him. That's probably unpopular around here, but it's just a hunch. Ellerbe's had his share of injuries, and this was really the first year he really turned it on. He's been immature before this. I'm happy he put it together. He's awesome. Love his play. He's better than McClain. But let me say something: if we do sign Ellerbe back & have McClain, do you honestly think the coaches will play a rookie over either guy? Usually our coaches let the young guys grow on the bench and come in as a rotation--never starters. I don't see it changing.

As for Minter, he's good at awareness & play recognition. He's a hard-hitter. He's physical. Great straight-line speed and good lateral speed. But he's not that fast. He's faster than Ray is right now, but Ray's 37-years-old. He might be able to get quicker. I still like Minter. But I also really like Alonso, Brown, & even Klein to a certain extent.

As for Williams, I think we can do better, personally. He's similar to Ellerbe, honestly. That's not bad, but I just think we could get better value there than a 2-down LB.

Im not sure how well McClain is going to be next season. Nick Collins suffered a herniated disk in his neck and was let go by the Packers, while McClain suffered a spinal neck contustion. Which both fall into the same category of injuries. McClain says he doesnt feel pain, but not sure how good he will be. I think he will be a cap casualty. Personally I would just let him go save the 4.2 million and sign Ellerbe to a long term contract.

See, that's the thing my man. We won't save 4.2 million. I wish we would! I don't like McClain, personally. I didn't want to re-sign him. He received a 3 year deal worth 10.5M with a 3.6M signing bonus. 2012, 2013 & 2014 he gets 1.2M in his signing bonus, thus 3.6M. We've already paid him 1.2M in 2012. So we owe him 2.4M. If we cut him, yes we save his 3M, but we have to pay him his 2.4M that is owed to him as part of his signing bonus. Thus, we only save 600,000 if we cut him. That's nothing. You might as well keep him and see if he returns. I think we play him like we did Foxworth & Carr. It's foolish to cut him since we will pay him 2.4M and if he comes back great then what?

We will only save 600,000 by cutting McClain right now. It's not worth it. We would have to accelerate his signing bonus and pay it all this year, which the remaining balance is 2.4M out of his 3M base salary and thus we would only save 600,000.

I was a little confused about his contract situation. He signed a 3 year 10.5 million last year. Hes guaranteed 3.6 million. he got paid 1.9 million this past year and is due 4.2 million this year that includes a 1.2 million bonus. So we can pay him 1.7 million and save about 2.5 million. Im not sure if my numbers are right, but thats what i found.

I'll break it down for you:

2012: 700K base salary, 1.2M signing bonus = cap hit of 1.9M - 2.4M left of signing bonus

2013: 3M base salary, 1.2M signing bonus = cap hit of 4.2M - 1.2M left of signing bonus

2014: 3.2M base salalry, 1.2M signing bonus = cap hit of 4.4M - 0 signing bonus left.

The base isn't guaranteed, so if we cut him he gets no base salary, so we save the 3M this year and don't have to pay him 3.2M next year. However, it accelerates his signing/guaranteed money that would be due now, and as such we pay him 2.4M, which equates to only 600K savings.

No it was really shameful. If it was a number it would be Terrence Cody's 40 time that's how shameful it is...
Edit: I take that back his 40 time is actually impressive for someone of his physique...

If the dead money for cutting him is 2,4 out of an expected cap hit of 4,2 this year, won't the savings be 1,8?

Basically, the 1,2 M of the signing bonus for this year, has allready been included, which mean the acceleration of the remainding 1,2M from the last year of the deal is what would count against our savings of 3 M on his base salary making the otal amount saved = 1,8M

You'd save 1.8M this year, yes, if the expected cap hit is 4.2. I was thinking of it more on terms of base salary, but the way you're presenting it is indeed accurate. When comparing base salary to guaranteed cap hit, we only save 600k. But, comparing total cap hit to guaranteed, we save 1.8M.
