LT situation

77 posts in this topic

According to Aaron Wilson on Twitter, we've been meeting with a lot of offensive tackles today. We've visited with Lane Johnson and many guys projected in rounds 2-4. It seems like we'll definitely be hitting LT fairly early in the draft.

Looking at the draft and free agency I think Giants FA LT Will Beatty is our best bet at this moment. The guy is just entering the prime of his career. Not anything outstanding but an above average LT who is affordable.

Unfortunately after Lewan and Matthews returned to school, Eric Fisher ballooned to the top 10-15 and the depth at the position such as Lane Johnson have shot up as well. Plenty of teams need a LT. This doesn't seem to be the year for tackles (when drafting so late). I've never been a fan of drafting LT in later rounds as it's pretty much hit or miss.

Good left tackles are rare and Beatty is an affordable option who could fill the position years to come. There are much bigger names on the market and we could sign him to a fairly cheap deal (for a starting LT) while everybody fights for guys like Jake Long. With Yanda signed long-term, Gino and KO still early on their rookie deals, getting Beatty could solidify our offensive line. Oher should come pretty cheap as well if/when we extend him. Having a good offensive line is what Flacco needs.

He does nothing outstanding but can run block and pass block effectively. I know we have our own guys to re-sign but it's opportunity we can't miss out on. I'd give up 4-8 million on a guy like Beatty in a heartbeat.

He will likely get a better offer from the giants than we can offer him.

I'm fine as we don't get Fluker. I greatly dislike the way he plays.

I don't think we'd go after him. At best he's a right tackle only, and there's a good shot he may even have to move to OG in the NFL.

Beatty would be a nice option, but unlikely imo. The Ravens have leverage in getting him here. He's already in a really good if not great situation with NYG and they reportedly really want him back. So the only way I see him leaving is if they can't afford him. If they can't afford him chances are the Ravens can't either. If he's gonna take less, then I see him staying with the NYG.

If he was with a losing team like Alberts then maybe the Ravens could sell the winning environment to him, but Beatty is already in a good situation

found a good youtube list of LT's that will be drafted in NFL this year.

So far Ravens met DJ fluker(alabama), oday aboushi(virginia), & brennan williams(unc).

I like Ody Aboushi alot.

What about you folks?

Just cause you want one doesn't mean you get it.

I don't think it's a secret they're interested. Also they're not sure if they want Michael Oher long term, and I think clearly we should try to keep osemele at guard where he be play at a pro bowl level.

He actually made the Chiefs and was on the 53 for like 5 games. He wasn't ready to play, but KC didn't wanna lose him from their PS, so they signed him to the active roster. Not that it means much, but KC fans were highly upset to see him go.

The thing about Mims is, he was/is raw. The guy went to a college so small that he didn't have a OL coach or a strength coach, which is really raw. From what I read, he was developing really well and KC just took a risk at the end of the season trying to stash him yet again, but Ozzie pounced.

Everything i've read said he's more of a RT but with hard work and coach he could be a good LT. It'll be interesting to see if he gets a real shot to compete with Cornell, Ried and Harewood. Guys like this usually don't make it, but with the track record the Ravens have with undrafted guys, I definitely think he'll get a shot to make the team.

Right. they have good tackles too.

He'll certainly be a good guy to watch. Like Harewood was. As long as we have him around I think he'll help us a lot.

Yea he was compared to Harewood being a small school development guy. I'm definitely interested in seeing him. There's a article I read after he signed with KC, he said his idols were Walter Jones and JO, being so big and all. So it looks like he'll get a chance to meet one of his Idols. Maybe JO might even work with him in camp a bit.

You know what would just be brilliant? If we traded up and drafted Lane Johnson. I'm really in love with him.

Osmele played LT in college. He's a really excellent guard though. I like Jah Reid, I think he should get snaps at LT and have the chance to be the team's LT. I doubt McKinnie comes back. But, we can't go into the season with ONLY Jah Reid as our left tackle (because I want Oher to stay a RT for the rest of his career in Baltimore).

Would Ozzie ever trade up to draft Lane Johnson? No. I think he's focusing on the middle of the defense (NT and ILB).

If all hopes fail. Maybe our option we have left is to sign David Diehl (from Giants)

He looks to be a cap casualty: http://espn.go.com/nfl/ and might be a cheap pick up if we can't sign Bryant Mckinnie.

Its great that we are relatively set on the interior part of our o-line with Yanda, Gradkowski, and Osemele. Since the draft is really stacked at offensive tackle, we can hopefully find a long term answer at LT.
