Not looking good for Terrence Cody

103 posts in this topic

I know he's still under his rookie contract but after reading this article, his time in Bmore looks limited.

He's been the hugest disappointment. (Literally).

I'd say that was below the belt, but with Cody its hard to tell where the belt is

I think he plays this season. I don't see them getting rid of both of them.Keomatu IMO is all but gone. Cody for at least one more season, will be affordable depth.

Ozzie won't cut a draft pick until at least the end of his rookie contract.

Yeah, Cody is on thin ice... he needs to step up.

He's got next season to redeem himself. People were calling Kruger a bust as well. So far, he's been really bad.

Yup. He's not even really "swallowing" blockers a la Sam Adams or Tony Siragusa, who were also decent pass rushers... maybe he can take some notes from fellow Crimson Tide member, Courtney Upshaw, who worked hard down in and down out and steadily improved all year, culminating in a huge FF in the Super Bowl.

Its his final year of his rookie contract, so this upcoming season will be a reason for Cody to be the best he can be. To be honest he should fatten back up to like 355 the 335-340 Cody is getting blown up by everyone.

Difference between him and Kruger are that Kruger has always shown that he has tremendous talent, ever since college. He was being unused and/or misused his first couple years.

Cody, I never, ever understood why we drafted this guy. Not very talented, no power despite his size, nor is he a three down player.

Just to make you mad I'll still claim he isn't a 3-down player :P

And me neither. The picture from the combine is all you need to know. That's not an NFL player.

Perhaps. Could also be that he was being asked to do too much. He's not great against the run and started thriving when put into a rush specialist role. That's what you meant, though.

Or maybe he got more comfortable in the new system? It was everyone's first year with Pees.

He's got one more year left to prove himself. He's still cheap depth. It wouldn't make sense to cut him this year, especially since there's no one else to man the position as of now. I definitely see him walking after 2013 though.

Yeah ,he won't be around anyway for us to find out . I just don't see how it will possible to resign him unless he takes less then the market
will pay . Probably much less.

Cody played better his rookie year then he played this year . Not a good sign . I think they will give him another year
to prove his worth and I assume he's signed for one more year .

Maybe let them both go and go with a 4-3! :268213:

Why not? The rest of the linemen can do it. We have guys that can play DT and DE. We just need backers.

Everyone has their down years. Cody played well in 2011. You never know if it was an injury he never spoke of or trying to do too much after a few bad performances, or shaken confidence after Kemo took his spot. But he has the potential to be the starter there for good. We just need to see it. Ozzie will make sure Cody knows the situation.

Cody has looked terrible. I will give him another year. I'm sure the coaches will, too.

Still, I would like a cut vet NT & to draft a guy somewhere to compete.

We don't have the backers.

He played really well in rotation the previous year, where we had the 2nd ranked run defense. He needs to get back in playing shape. But he'll never be better than a 2 down lineman and short yardage guy.

I know we don't but we can find them for sure. I'd prefer to move to a single gap 3-4. That would play to the strengths of our guys better.

We used him in that capacity this year and he blew it. He couldn't even start over old man Kemo.

Clearly we need to do something about our DT, but we're not changing the scheme. Just too much turn around.

Every time I see Cody on TV like one winning drive or behind the bench, he always dodges behind people to avoid the camera viewing his 10month pregnancy.......

Sheeze, if he plays like Wilfork, he can take off his shirt in front of the camera and people wouldn't say jack about his floppiness...

It's not impossible. If we were to employ a one gap scheme like the Texans use we wouldn't really have to overhaul the roster. We need linebackers anyway, regardless of what scheme we go for. I just think that the defensive linemen we have would be better suited in a one gap scheme. McPhee would be a probowler in a one gap scheme. I'm just kind of shooting ideas around really. It's easier to find an ILB to fit a Wade Phillips 3-4 than it is to find a dominant NT for a traditional 3-4.

We have the personnel to run the 4-3 very effectively. We only need a MLB who has good lateral speed, of which there are two I see in the draft early and another two on the 2nd day, or more depending on the picks in the 1st round.

Brown is my top choice at Mike. His lateral speed, playmaking ability, & leadership put him above others. We can put Ellerbe at Will or draft Jelani Jenkins, who I like a lot. Jenkins is quicker than Sagittarius. Lol.

The problem with Cody is he isn't "Mount" Cody anymore. He lost too much weight presumably to improve his stamina and agility but all that did was take away his one good attribute...his strength.

Back in shape? Lol, he wasn't out of shape, he was in the best shape of his life (not saying much). His technique is just horrible. As soon as he starts to get a little tired he elevates his pad level (trying to rely on his natural size--worked in college but not the NFL) allowing centers to stand him up. At that point if he's double-teamed he gets blown off the ball or, if not double teamed, the o-line tee's up on Ngata taking both of them out of the play. Thus allowing RBs to run over the LG all day without a care in the world. Then at the second level the FB gets on Ray Lewis, who can't beat that matchup any more given his dropped weight and age, and you have the Ravens run defense of 2012.

Ryan McBean might be the answer. Although he's a UFA, he had a season with us learning at least. I'd welcome him back for the vet minimum.

Ok 2 things.

First, I agree the Ravens certainly could run a 4-3 effectively. I actually think Josh Bynes could be that sideline to sideline thumper at MLB. But i'd definitely draft a MLB. However I think the Ravens stick to the multiple defense.

Secondly, what would you think about sliding Art down to NT and re-signing McBean to play the 5. Art's game is all about strength and leverage, much like Kelly Greg, having that wrestling background. Art also has an explosive element to his game, that could take advantage of less athletic Centers.

Far too often I saw the defense get caught with Cody and Kemo in the game while a team was passing. Art Jones would help with that. I think Art could be a stud on this dline and he has the skill set to play every position. Art is unblockable at times and I think he could more then control the middle for the defense, in both the run and pass game.

What do you think?

I think this is a good position for the Ravens to be in. He's only going to cost them around $600k next year. You bring in another DT and make him compete for a spot. Either he elevates his game or loses his position. As for the new DT, if it's a young, hungry guy he knows that he is actually playing for something .. that if he outplays Cody, he's more than likely starting. I think it's going to be an interesting upcoming pre-season.

I think the majority of us disliked the pick when it occurred, but we jumped on board because he was a Raven and deserved the benefit of the doubt. He showed some flashes at times.

But its always come down for strength for him. He gets knocked off the ball on run plays and he can't collapse the pocket on pass plays. He's just not strong enough to anchor and therefore can't take on extra blockers. Which hurts our run defense. I don't see it changing this year.

The talent hasn't really ever been there like a Kruger or Jimmy Smith. He's just a big body who you would hope could hold his own in the NFL, but sadly its not looking good.

Well, I don't mean 4-3 exclusively. I like the hybrid scheme we use. I don't want that gone.

And I think Jones would be a great NT. Not sure if he has the size, but he definitely has good technique. I'm really high on us extending Arthur Jones & Dennis Pitta NOW, and NOT waiting until 2014 to do it when they are free agents and having headaches.
