Tyrann Mathieu

What are your thoughts? Risk a late round pick or hope he goes undrafted and jockey for him in the UDFA market.
The kid was the face of the LSU program before throwing it all away. He has extreme talent and great potential, but like many others before him, poses considerable risks with his checkered past. I think Mathieu is an intriguing prospect that we should take a good hard look at. You can never have too many solid defensive backs.

I've been reading that some of you want to take him in the mid to late rounds. Personally, I wouldn't waste a pick on him. He is become the Burfict of this draft and that kid went undrafted for far less.

Yes... Burfict went undrafted and turned into an impact for the Bengals in year one... bad example lol.

Mathieu is way to talented to go undrafted. I'd take him in the 4th, wouldn't be mad if we took him in the 3rd. I would just totally love to have him. The 'risks' don't concern me with him.

Bad example? I consider it the perfect example. A young player who made terrible life choices and turned out to be an impact player. Tyrann didn't even play last year and I could see his draft stock fall like a meteor. We should capitalize on that and get a possible impact player with a pick that is usually allocated to players considered to be projects.Yes... I thought Burfict would be picked up in the 7th but went undrafted for failed drug tests and a bad attitude. Tyrann was booted from LSU's team for similar infractions. I consider Tyrann's actions being more serious so I wouldn't be surprised to see him go undrafted. Remember, Burfict went from a Top 15 prospect to undrafted. Mathieu could easily follow the same path into the league.

Losers always say "Next time's gonna be different!". That's right, next time you're gonna lose again.

So being a cancer to your team is not as bad as having a marijuana habit? Interesting. I wonder what percentage of NFL players you think smoke weed lol.

A failed drug test certainly hurts, much like Mike Adams failing his test but that only dropped Adams to the 2nd.

Burfict didn't lose a year of playtime. Mathieu did. I'm pretty sure teams are hesitant about investing a higher round pick for a player that hasn't played in over a year. Especially when the reason for missing all that time was self-inflicted... For all the knocks on Burfict he was never kicked off the team for his behavior. So being a cancer to your team is not as bad as having a marijuana habit? Interesting. Vontaze Burfict was a work ethic headache...in other words when it came to practicing at ASU he would not show up sometimes, he would be the last one in the weightroom, and the first one out of it, he was very lazy, didnt care much about what his coaches had to think and because of it showed up to the draft as an ILB looking like a DT.I've been reading that some of you want to take him in the mid to late rounds. Personally, I wouldn't waste a pick on him. He is become the Burfict of this draft and that kid went undrafted for far less.

He always had a bad attitude and threw fits in games if he didnt have things his way, he would fight with players coaches fans everyone. He even punched his coach in the face, as well as many players he has fought with too. He also got bad grades in school as well.
All in all just shows how Burfict was a migraine to deal with and Im glad we didnt draft him. People overrate him and claim him to be the beast of beasts for leading his team in tackles which is not respectable at all. But basically Burfict was a threat to the entire Ravens football team, he could have fought with coaches, teammates, been a lazy worker, or any of those things. And he even apparently interviewed bad with coaches last year during the combine thats why you pass on Burfict.
Tyrann Mathieu was a hysman trophy candidate, and you cant take that a way. He had raw talent when he played for LSU and he still does. He just got caught up with Marijuanna which is what a ton of college players get caught up in, I think CB Janoris Jenkins had the same problems last year and turned out to be a steal for the Rams.
Mathieu realized he did something stupid and got kicked off LSU, but indtead of going to another school which he could have easily done he chose to enter himself into rehab in order to better himself. And he also apparently has been working out since leaving LSU and is training hard for the combine...and thats where his stock will set itself off...a good combine is the difference between a 6th and 4th round pick...maybe even late 3rd. Mathieu is well worth it, he has raw skill as a defensive back and has great return skills as well. With the 5th pick I definitely wouldnt consider it a waste...we wouldnt be able to get much better talent anyways, Mathieu has potential

He is a starting MLB who lead his team in tackles, yet everyone treats him like he is an all pro DPOY. Every teams starting MLB leads their respective teams in tackles for the most part...thats a given, he didnt show much electricity like some fans have him out to have. He had 1 sack and looked very average in coverage and got burned a lot due to him still being out of shape. I respect the fact that he even got himself into little better shape, let alone make an impact after going undrafted...but he still is quite average to me.Yeah & Burfict went off last season

The kid is talented. But a year off from football (and getting into who knows what) can lead to question marks. I always believe in second chances and I know the Ravens do to. He'll be heavily watched at the combine and he needs to nail his interviews. Teams are going to have to know if they give this kid money, how will he handle himself.

Disagree with pretty much everything. I'm certainly not calling him DPOY, but imo he was one of the top defensive rookies last year. Sure the guys up front make him look better, but paraphrasing Jon Gruden on MNF here..."This kids the heart and soul of this Bengals defense not named Geno Atkins". I know it's Gruden and he talks alot, but I agree with him. When Burfict was on field, the Bengals defense allowed 2.4 yards fewer per play compared to 4.5 when he was off the field...Him being undrafted is what makes it more impressive to me. Every Bengals game I've seen (a few) he's jumped off the T.V. to me. He might of looked average to you but remember he was only a rookie last year. A undrafted one of that. If you just personally don't like the guy(Like a ton of people for whatever reason) then that probably affects your opinion of him. Basically what I'm saying is, he had a great rookie season and shouldn't have been undrafted in hindsight. (I've always been a Vontaze supporter tho lol).He is a starting MLB who lead his team in tackles, yet everyone treats him like he is an all pro DPOY. Take it with a grain of salt but my friend told me stories about Webb having that habit back in 09 when he was rehabbing his first acl tear. Even saw a funny picture of him lolWouldn't be the first CB on our team with a known marijuana habit. My brother was a doorman downtown several years ago and he can qualify C-Mac on one story alone!
