Try telling that to anyone who ever watched the wire, which is basically everyone.

I try to make light of it. I was in the South last year with some friends and people who I met down there would ask me where I was from and I said Baltimore (they'd often point out that I pronounced with a D sound instead of a T) and they'd respond "Oh, like The Wire" and I just said "Yes, exactly like The Wire." I love my city.

I'm talking about replacing Kruger. If Upshaw could do what Kruger did , upshaw would never leave the field.
With his college pedigree he'd have been a top 5 pick as well.

Ellerbe and McClain can defiantly hold down the mlb spot. Ellerbe can do it all... blitz, stop the run, cover.... pretty solid players at lb... with Kruger out I think we need a pass rusher first pick since kindle didn't pan out... maybe Hamilton will?
Won't happen unless its an interior rush DT. We won't take a 34 OLB in the first round, it would render the Upshaw pick from just last year useless.

Courtney Upshaw would like a word with you.
Yeah. Upshaw and his whopping 1.5 sacks would like to have a word.

Sorry, but until he does become a solid pass rusher, we should approach the situation as if he isn't. I think he will become a 6-8 sack guy, maybe more, but until he does reach that level we need to address the pass rushing situation.

Ellerbe can't cover that well. He's decent at coverage. I think BA is better than him at coverage, personally. As for Upshaw, that's not necessarily true, either. It's good to get guys off the field for endurance purposes alone. I think Upshaw can become even better under Monachino.

That's true, but not necessarily. If Jarvis Jones or Ansah is there, I don't know if we could pass up on them, even with the red flag for JJ. I mean, if you have a chance at a dominant player like that, it might be worth it. If you can pressure the QB constantly, the secondary just improves so much more.

I agree. I don't know if we need to take a 1st round DE/OLB, but I think if an excellent prospect presents themselves at our pick, and they are a top-prospect at their position, we take it.

Of course if you have a chance at a game changer you take him regardless of position. I read some reports that NFL scouts thought Ansah was more hype than substance though. I haven't really monitored college players myself much though.

Something similar to Jamael McClain

Likely considerably more.

I hear you. Ansah's pretty raw in terms of football IQ, but he's an athlete & a very good one. I personally don't like him in the first round and would rather take him in the second. I don't think he will make it there. He's a Bruce Irvin-kind of prospect. He could be another Terrell Suggs. He has a very high ceiling. He's the prototypical risk/reward pick.

It doesn't stop the trolls, but WE do. We can't tell them "no" if it's being used by others.
A little bit of absurdism can really disarm trolls, I use it to great effect when people try and get a rise out of us on other forums.

I remember when people were bashing Ellerbe last year. He really rounded into form this year and played lights out in the playoffs. Bringing him back will keep our defense solid.
everyone was bashing him. He was a huge reason New England beat us, he was fat and slow and got abused all game. He clearly worked out hard in the offseason to get into shape and his potential has came through.

In his defense, he was battling a quad injury all last year which really hindered him physically. However, that injury could be the result of poor conditioning.

Eh, not sure he was ever close to being cut. The FO gave him a 2nd round tender. You don't do that to guys who are on the bubble.

It's been couple days now and not news for him; is he coming back to pick up his socks?
I'm pretty sure everyone just overreacted.

Tried putting that in my sig a few years ago. The mods were not happy.

We have Jimmy McNulty on the case!!!

LOL same. I say it like "Baldimore" That's even worse. Anyways, back on subject, I hope we do re-sign Ellerbe. I'll never forget how John chewed him out for holding the ball out while running back that pick six against the Rams in pre-season a few years ago. I've always liked how explosive he is.

I think that was a big moment in his career and I loved Harbs for it. He was a young player that needed to learn that you have to earn your swagger playing for the Ravens. Don't mind you having flair and swag, but you gonna put in the work first or you are just viewed as a showboating young punk.

The moment I knew Ellerbe was a serious player was the Vikings game in 09'. When I saw him explode and tackle AP on a swing pass 1on1. I was like my man Jacoby Jones....ooh baby. I must like others wanted Ellerbe to always start over McClain, but I unlike many like the fact that Harbs has a doghouse and makes guys earn playing time. I think it makes these young guys better and it makes them set standards for even younger players coming on the team.

I think LQW might be in that doghouse, but not sure.

There was a period where I didn't like Ellerbe. He didn't always put forth 100% effort and I heard reports saying he was kind of lazy. McClain earned a spot over him in 2010. I loved him in 2009, but injuries and work ethic ruined him recently. Now that he straightened himself up, he's one of my favorite defenders.

If you mean LaQuan Williams, I agree. I was disappointed to not see his name on the back of my Super Bowl Champions t-shirt with the rest of the team.
