Pittsburgh Steelers set to implode

14 Million over cap. Will probably lose every free agent and need to cut some key players who won't take less money. Let this be a lesson in why we don't restructure contracts. Can't wait for them to implode.

this is exactly why we have the Wizard of Oz calling the Shots, and why he makes the decisions he does, so that this type of thing never or rarely happens, Ozzie knows when to let go and whom to keep. In Oz..the all seeing eye. sucks for the steelers but hey...everyone has to learn at some point or at least need a refresher course

I actually agree with thesis of this thread. It will take some "fancy foot work" for the Steelers to get on track for the 2013 season. Their definitely in a "feet don't fail me now" situation...lol.

Restructure, restructure, restructure and it will lead to this. It's why Ozzie said he is very reluctant to do so unless it's absolutely necessary and he's sure the player he is restructuring is worth it.

I hope he means a LT.

Still, the Steelers are in dire straits. I'm interested to see how they get everything taken care of, especially considering the weaknesses in their team. That OL still sucks, and that defense is getting really old. I don't think most of those younger guys they have are capable of being starters.

As much as I should enjoy this, I don't.

Ours has become the best rivalry in football (if people argue against that they're just being silly) and I wouldn't want it to fall away because of a poor job on the part of the Steelers Front Office.

I don't want to be 2-0 on the season against them because they suck, I want to be 2-0 against them on the season because we're that good.

Having this rivalry fall off would be pretty bad for the league, since it provides two premier match-ups every season.
Really? I'm kinda tired of them. Tired of their ugly colors, ugly field, broken quarterback... I'm even tired of thinking about them. Pittsburgh had their time and I'd be just fine if they had a few bad years in a row.

I get that, but it would just take away a lot of the joy we get when we beat them. Curb-stomping them every time just wouldn't be that good, in my opinion. It's just like I get no real joy out of beating the Browns because, well, they're the Browns.

I agree.
Wile I admit I loved it when we completely destroyed them, the BEST Ravens v. steelers games were the ones that were fought to the bitter end.
I'd rather sweep them and have them go 0-16 then sweep them and have them go 14-2. I do like beating good teams, but there are only a set amount of wins each year. The more the Steelers lose, the more likely it is that it contributes to another team looking "great". I'll be more than happy to beat them.

I don't care about them. If we do what we're supposed to do, they'll be put to bed again early this year. Tomlin hasn't proven to me he can build a team. Most of those players are Cowher hold overs. The Ravens have retooled better. Harbs Era has drafted/ RFA Joe, Rice, Torrey, Pitta , KO, Webb, Oher, Art Jones, Pierce, Ellerbe, McPhee, Kruger, McClain, Chykie Brown, Jimmy Smith.. All of these guys have game up big at some point. We will continue to retool. the Steelers has had CRAP drafts IMO.

As much as this might make us smile. The Steelers do tend to draft well. They'll have some young players ready to step up in a blink of an eye.

They aren't just going to go away.

Well Wallace is gone but some of their recent draft picks need to start living up to their draft status a little more.

Steelers aren't going anywhere. They might be hurting, but they'll be fine. I think the Bengals will establish themselves as the #2 team in our division next year but it will be short lived.

I'd say from the 2002 season and the Steelers this year is all the evidence Ozzie needs to never do mass contract restructures ever again.

But this rivalry isn't going anywhere. Both teams draft too well and both teams have good QBs.

I agree. I'd rather them do their whole limp into the playoffs and then lose thing so they don't get high draft picks :P. Division games will almost always be some of the best and even bad teams play fairly well against the better ones.
As long as Ben is at qb and Polamalu at safety I don't care how badly we destroy them.

Thank you for being logical, level headed, and polite. After trolling on the NE forums I wanted to scream obsceneties at them, but you have proven that rivals can still respect each other and be polite. And you dont cry about not making playoffs or blame it on stupid cop-outs. So again, thanks.

I agree, saying they are imploding is a stretch. They have been having some good drafts and I think it will be good for them to get younger. If they have a monster draft they will still be tough.

We'll see. I'll believe that the Steelers are sinking when I see it. Roethlisberger can cover up some weaknesses, when his crappy line isn't getting him force-fed his own spleen.

The funny thing is I saw a comment the other day on an espn article that said Ozzie had put the Ravens in cap hell with his moves and that he was certainly no Colbert... They then proceeded to say Joe was a below-average QB that would be overpaid by OZ. But the best part was when they said the Steelers were set up great by Colbert to make a run next year since they weren't in cap hell like the ravens. Lol
