They're already back at work...Had a 10 hour personnel meeting yesterday.

Next week the main guys will meet in Florida and discuss more, up until it's time for the draft.

We don't intend on restructuring any contracts.

Ozzie thinks we have 8 OL who could start for us, ...Jah Reid is already working out in the weight room. He said it's McKinnie decision if he wants to come back next season.

I like Steve basically saying they learned from their mistakes during the 2001 offseason (restructuring contracts, only to have players leave anyway)

Won't turn down any offensive players who would make our offense better.

Still are looking for an elite pass rusher to be opposite Suggs, but feels good with our current OLB set.[/background]

Why does it sound like a forgone conclusion that Flacco is tagged?

Ozzie says if you watch Ed Reed's body language that he wants to be here in Baltimore. Says they can maybe use that to extend relationship. Won't talk right away, Ed wants time to clear his head.

Also Ray won't come back and coach.

They only have until March 4 to get a contract or give him the franchise tag. It's not much time.

Agree with all of those things. Even if we retain Ed, he's getting older and the depth behind him and Pollard doesn't have much upside.

IF we get a deal done with Joe, we won't franchise another player. So there goes speculation for that to go to Reed or Kruger.

Is there a benefit to not using the tag at all?

Ozziesaid only time team considers restructures is if player has great value or player has good chance of reaching the end of their deal

Maybe I'm reading between the lines to much right now but it really sounds like they're ready to say goodbye to Kruger, Ellerbe, Reed, etc and get some decent veterans in the rotation.

I had the same feeling too cuz they don't want to to fall into the same situation that they did in 2001....or Pitts did to retain their star players after winning SB and they missed the playoff the following year....
kinda does sound like it
Seems like they are preparing us for the inevitable fan favorite leaving due to money
Talked about reloading and youth sitting behind the starters

Just not paying a bunch of money for a player that's not really worth it. Paul or Ed shouldn't be paid as the best at their position.

I was thinking the same thing, but i think its just the fact that they don't want to get into the salary cap hell we were in back in 2001. The year like half the team left.

I don't get why Eric Decosta was sitting in the crowd? I feel he should've been up there with them.

As much as Reed is loved around here I think he's less valuable than Ellerbe or Kruger. I'm sensing Kruger won't be around next year which sucks, but Suggs might be closer to 100% next year, and we have Upshaw. I'm wondering if Pagano tries to steal some more of our guys. And Boldin needs to stay, I think that's a given.

Can't imagine that they would let Ellerbe walk unless he asks for unreasonable money. He is too young and has too much potential to just let him go like that. Other than him, I agree.

I think Ellerbe stays unless someone throws unreasonable money at him. He's a home grown guy and has finally bought into the system and understands what is needed.

So, in short it sounds like:

1. They know we are weak on defense, especially the middle with DT, ILB, & S.
2. They feel like they can get a deal done with Flacco before the deadline, but acknowledge the tag is an option.
3. Don't want to overpay players to keep them, but would rather use younger & cheaper players.
4. Don't like the idea of restructuring.
5. That there are some guys who could retire that have said things unofficially to Ozzie.
6. That they like the OL players we have a feel like they are all starters.
7. Think Ed Reed's heart, body language, etc. is in Baltimore & may be able to keep him.
8. They like their OLBs but feel like you can never have enough pass rushers.
9. Juan Castillo may be able to help the OL get even better.
10. They're optimistic about Jameel McClain's health
11. If they do restructure it would be to sign some cut FA vets.

I get a bad feeling that Ellerbe goes to another team. I'll miss him, too. He really had a good year. Kruger, Williams--I think everybody expected them to lose those guys. I can see the Ravens inserting Jack Cornell into the line-up next year. They were high on him before. Perhaps they even believe Juan Castillo can bring out the best in Oher. I won't be surprised to see Reid at RT & Oher at LT.

I also wonder if Boldin is one of those guys who unofficially told Ozzie he may retire. I could see Birk, Williams, Boldin, Ayanbadejo & McKinnie all retiring. I wouldn't be shocked. I think Birk & Boldin still have some left in the tank anyway.

And I feel like we're going to get that ILB to replace Ray now.

Good summary grim.
I don't think q is a retiring guy just yet.
I think matt birk of course is one of those guys
As well as ayanbedajo and McKinnie (basically all except a that you mentioned)

As for ellerbe I don't think he will go and I don't think they'll let him because of jameel injury situation however finding ilbs that produce for us seems like its just what we do. Ed hartwell, Bart Scott, ellerbe... They will be found.

I know when people look at Baltimore they see a lack of depth but on the ol there was enough movement that the younger guys got reps throughout the year. I thnk at cb we went from being older and slower with rolle and maccalister to having youth and some quickness. Even Mighty Mouse asa Jackson gives me more confidence at cb than what we had a few short years ago.

Bobbie Williams is another possible retiree. He signed a two-year deal so that could be more cap space for us.

Kemoeatu could probably retire, too, but he was only a one-year deal.

I forget what he frees up, but I think it's only 600k or something. I don't remember it being a lot. At most it's 1.2

Oh! Btw, I forgot a very important thing that was mentioned!

The cap specialist said that the cap will not go up much in 2014. So there goes that notion of the cap spiking up a lot in 2014.
