The contract we offered him which he turned down is the most I'd pay for him. I'd like to keep the guy around for his ability as he has progressed very well, but his character and price tag is too high.
The character, while annoying, sets the tone for his play
I like to see him continue to progress in our system but yeah money is an issue.
He will be over paid then go on to be he beast josh Wilson is lol

If reports are to be believed, Williams bet on himself by turning down a three-year, $15 million contract from the Ravens last year. Two postseason interceptions, to go with four in the regular season (along with 11 pass deflections), might suggest that was a wise move from Williams.

But watching the tape a little closer doesn't leave you quite as impressed. Williams gave up 39 first downs in the regular season and six more in the postseason, meaning his combined 45 first downs surrendered were the second highest of all cornerbacks. He wasn't a shutdown corner but rather someone teams moved the chains on. He may be looking for top cornerback money, but teams shouldn't be fooled into thinking he is one.

I think if the Jets do trade Revis, Williams has a chance to be signed by the Jets. I can see Cary getting an $8M/yr deal.

Pretty much what most if us felt here
I mean kudos for him if he gets paid it just won't be as high with Baltimore as it would be elsewhere

Yea I mean, net it was a good move for Cary because is going to get more than 15 for 3 but he's not getting shutdown money. We were going to pay him #2 money at best the writing was on the wall that Jimmy was here to take that spot and he'd be looking at getting cut down the line anyway.

In the end, we got a guy with a chip on his shoulder that was serviceable in a spot where we've seen MUCH worse. As we know as Ravens fans, poor CB play can destroy a team's chances and Cary was far from poor.

This is 100% accurate. I will say that most of those came earlier in the season. Only six first downs in 4 post season games is actually outstanding considering we went up against, Luck, Manning, Brady, and Kaepernick. He has definitely improved from the Cary Williams in the first 8 weeks or so of the season.

Which behind the bench was this?
I could be mistaken, but I believe it was the game before he had his 3 game stretch with an INT each game. He drops an INT in the game.

cary plays with a major chip on his shoulder. imo, his game play is erratic at best and he is a hot-head that is always yapping and looking for a fight. as another flock member mentioned....i wouldn't be surprised or miss him if the Ravens let him walk.

Would like to see Cary come back, but somebody will offer him more.

Our CB situation looks good regardless with Webb coming back, Graham doing extremely well, Smith finally coming into his own and Chykie showing flashes.

Yeah espn wrote an article today about how some team will over pay Cary Willams based on bad stats ( INTs 4 Pass breakups 11 ) but he gave up 45 combined ( first downs & touchdowns ) which was second worst in the league.

Honestly Cary Williams thought he was worth more than 3yr $15M before this season so I guess he must want $8M/yr lol. I wish Cary luck in the future but that future will not be with the Ravens unless Ozzie & Decosta lose their minds.

Corey Graham played strong down the stretch , Chykie brown received some much needed playing time, Jimmy smith will improve , L.Webb will be back , and Asa Jackson will have his time as well. So Cary go find the money maybe Detriot or New Orleans or some other CB needy team will offer him the money.

As I re-watch the entire Superbowl Cary Williams really is an idiot. I thought game time when he pushed the Ref maybe he just got up and instantly reacted to his helmet being ripped off or whatever but he clearly looked at the ref and pushed him didn't acknowledge that he did anything wrong at all, then continued to argue and fight even through Ellerbe and others pulling him away..

Up 28-6 SF has a 3rd and 9 ( Drive that leads to a TD) Cary Williams actually lines up 8 yards off of Randy moss back pedals well past the first down marker practically giving up the first down. Ed Reed is over the top at least play 6 yards off and contest the first down.

Also had a some good pass breakups on the night as well

We need Cary and I love his intensity. Please Ravens re-sign him!
Baltimore Ravens 2013 Super Bowl Champions!
We really don't need him though. We get Webb back, and i'm perfectly fine with Webb, Graham, Smith, Brown, Jackson, and a rookie or another vet.

With that being said, I agree with what other people are saying. He always seems like he's in the middle of fights, and like GrimCoconut said on the 1st page, that whole "chip on the shoulder" thing is what hurts him. He's come off on the field like a show-off a little, and celebrates after every play, even if he didn't do much. He doesn't act like he's been there before. Ever since he decked Decker (see what i did there?) out of bounds in the Broncos regular season game, he's come off the wrong way to me. I'm sure Decker isn't an angel either, but you can't do that stuff.

I think if Cary leaves us, he'll likely be waiting a long long time to ever reach the Super Bowl again. But maybe the money is worth it to him.

I can see some bottom of the barrel team overpaying him based on his stats this season. They're going to sink a decent amount of money into a not-so-good CB, and that will take away money that they could use elsewhere.

It would not bother me at all if we KEPT Cary. Keep in mind the you-can't-have-enough-corners credo said by many coaches in the NFL.
OK, so what if Smith does not pan out, if Webb is not up to speed until late in the 2013 season? Will Graham and Brown be enough cornerbacks to make it back to the playoffs? HECK NO!
Do you damnest to keep Williams Baltimore!

I still laugh at how much hate Cary gets. He is a very solid CB. He is a hothead, though.
This is such an accurate statement. I think Williams gets a ton of flack. He's not a bad CB. He isn't great, needs a pass rush to really be at his best, and doesn't have that speed to make up for his mistakes. With that said, he is physical and does a good enough job to warrant a good deal. If he went to a team like the 49ers I think he could be a #1 easily.

I hope he gets a massive deal and we get a 3rd round pick for him. Doubt it happens, though.

A hothead who doesn't know how to reign it in once he loses it. Should have been ejected in the SB.
Makes as many mistakes as good plays. A liability who needs to go.
Hope he gets his payday- elsewhere.

CW is a corner who I want on our team no matter how he acts. Aggressive, physical and mouthy. Thats how Ravens built their D.
Aggressive? No. Physical? No. Mouthy? Definitely.

He's not what I think of as a Raven and is the weakest link in the D backfield whenever he is on the field. He filled a need this year, but I doubt that he will be on the squad next year.

We have other needs quite frankly, and the depth to more than fill in for his absence.

While I appreciate his contributions - even his tenacity - I will not miss the silly flags and that shove on the ref; as well as getting burnt due to ill discipline.

BucsFan is right - nothing special; not awful'; and the comparison to Finnegan is about right.

Yes. I don't think he's worth what we offered him earlier in the year.

I'm biased because I just don't like his game or his attitude. He plays soft, and when he does make a play, he acts like he just saved the world or something. When he pushed the ref in the SB I almost went through the TV. What an idiot.

I support keeping Cary, if at the right price, because I respect his play and I believe he will help us more than he will hurt us. We made the Super Bowl and won it when he started. Besides, who will replace him? The staff knows how to hone his skills.

Cary won't be worth the money he asks for.

I'd be perfectly fine with moving forward with Jimmy or Graham or Chykie at the other starting spot.

Again, we are assuming Webb will be able to start week one; however, how long will it take him to get his legs back after major knee surgery? So, if Cary is gone, can you go with Webb who is not 100% out of the gate and Smith/Graham/Brown at the other corner?
Now, what happens if whoever starts opposite Webb gets injured or dinged up? That is why I want to keep Williams.

He's a luxury on this team moving forward that we simply can't afford.

Elerbe, Reed, Kruger are much more needed.

Even if Webb can't go Week 1 (he more than likely will considering how much smoother players recover from ACLs these days), the team will have multiple CBs with experience playing heavy snaps in Smith, Graham and Brown, along with a young talent in Asa Jackson.

If someone goes down, you trust the backup to step up, as we clearly saw this past season.

Cary turns 28 in December and is coming off consecutive seasons in which he's started every game. This is his last chance to earn a big contract. He's a goner.
