South Park Or Family Guy

I'm a huge fan of both of these shows, I think they are the most brilliant shows on tv, so I was wondering if anyone has a preference between the two, or just general thoughts in general on the shows.

I love South Park, but I also like Family Guy.

My main issue with Family Guy that prevents me from loving it more, is how the jokes (as South Park pointed out) are just so random, and a lot of them are stupid (and not necessarily stupid like "so stupid it's funny").

But, then again, when I watch TV, I don't expect to be educated anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

As for South Park, even though I love the show, my main beef with it is all the social commentary it's tried to do in the past few years. At first, it worked really well, but it's been hit-or-miss over the past couple of seasons. I thought the Obama/McCain jewel thief episode was mostly stupid (except for the parts where Randy was drunk and celebrating), and I thought the Britney Spears episode from last season was a complete waste of time even though I agreed with its message.

But, when South Park does something brilliant like the World of Warcraft episode, or the China Probrem episode (as an Asian, I seriously LOVED the offensive Asian stereotypes), or the controversial one from last season about the N-word, it gets me literally rolling on the floor AND gets me thinking afterwards.

So, I can appreciate both shows. But I'd prefer classic South Park over the most recent episodes of Family Guy any day.

They're both great, but I am partial to Family Guy. The humor and story lines are both comparable IMO, but the characters in Family Guy I think edges out South Park.

Cartman pwns Peter Griffin. Sorry. It had to be said. :D

Plus, I like how the creators of South Park are making an effort to showcase more background characters lately. Craig is the most prominent example, since he had a two-part story devoted to him recently and I loved the continuity in the last episode:

Some kid: "Dude, 'What's High School Musical 1 and...???' Dude, it's only the most popular thing with kids in our age group!"
Jimmy: "Yeah! Where the hell have you guys been??"
Craig: "...Peru."

(You had to see the most recent episodes to get it...SouthParkStudios.com, if you guys need to catch up. It's the official South Park website, and it's free with new episodes added the day after they're aired)

That's exactly the reason why I love Family Guy. Because everything is just so random. It's great. But I'm also a big fan of South Park. Because I feel like they push the line a lot better. Sometimes I watch an episode of Southpark, and can't believe they just went there. Like the Lord of The Rings episode. Both great shows.

I those episodes were hilarious. Family Guy is random and I think that is the hilarity behind it, but South Park I think is brilliant in its social commentary. On a side note, I can't wait for the new episode in 15 mins!

Speaking of which (Not Safe For Work, obviously!):

Cartman: "Talonguard The Black returns from watching the video!"
Clyde: "What sights did you see on the videotape, Talonguard? Is it the work of Sauron's magic?"
Token: "...I'm not playing anymore."
Stan: "Whoa, wait, what'd you see???"
Token: "I don't know. I don't wanna know. I'm out."
Cartman: "...My god, this tape must be really powerful!..."

That's what I'm talking about. That part there when Token watches the tape is classic. "I'm Out"

I'm with you.
I think Stewie might just be the greatest character on television.

I liked South Park, but after watching Family Guy I really like it now. Family Guy is like a cleaner version of South Park in a way.
