The Lights Go Out. Was "The Fix" In?

112 posts in this topic

Will be interesting if there's ever an explanation. I am suspicious of league / networks who care mostly about $ and a blowout Ravens win was their least desirable scenario. Doubt there ever will be a real explanation. But it could have been that one of the parties to benefit hired the guy from Buffalo Wild Wings to influence the game. No sprinklers on the indoor turf, so lights out was a good option to ice the Ravens for a while. The 9ers really did need some help, they strategized to comeback to a 21-6 game and found it quickly to be 28-6. Messed up my 31-13 prediction..

Thinking that the lights going out was intentionally orchestrated to screw the Ravens is almost as ridiculous as this song...

during the hurricane the Dome didn't have power either, maybe generators set up but no power. But there was no fix.

this is true! i have corrected my original statement.

At this point there's not enough info to tell if this was deliberate outage or just some anomaly. But I will tell you this, I've managed large facilities for many years and if there is an outage of this magnitude you know pretty quickly of the cause. The fact that they still haven't publicized the issue is very suspicious.

Believe it or not, switchgear carrying this much power can be killed by the flip of what amounts to a light switch. That switch is always behind locked doors, but easily accessible to anyone that can get into the room. So, it is possible that an angry, wealthy niners fan(or someone who bet big $) thought to disrupt the Ravens momentum by paying a facilities person to trip the power. I know it sounds like a movie plot, but I have seen it done in a large office building as a prank.

If it was deliberate, we'll probably never be given those details. But there is no question that the outage completely deflated all of the momentum earned in the first half and by Jacoby's TD at the start of the second half. I for one await the explanation with much curiosity.

The fact of the matter is, and no one, and I mean NO ONE can argue that the power outage was not a HUGE turning point.
Acccording to my friend who was there it was just the 9ers side that went out, but also the Ravens communication.

I cant help but wonder if some one some how found out the frequencies that their wireless communication was on.
I know thats far fetched, but we went from complete and total domination, to getting out butts whooped, pardon me, at the flip of a switch.

Strange indeed.

If you didn't know New Orleans has a MAJOR rat problem. The reason the truth isn't coming out is because nobody wans to here about a rat in the stadium. So my theory is a rat became a rat no more and shut down the lights theres many ways the rat could've done it. just my theory

Was watching with friends who aren't big fans but tolerate my obsession in exchange for the food. They were absolutely convinced it was a drastic move to prevent a blowout, and subsequent drop in ratings.
I love the game too much to believe such a thing, and will give the powers that be the benefit of the doubt.

No denying the outcome, however - Kaep was looking scared and confused, nothing he was doing was working, and whatever confidence he got back at halftime was blown out by Jacoby. He needed another full halftime to regain his composure, and he got it.

Just got back from NOLA. All the news reports are the the power outage is 'under investigation'.
What does that tell you?
BTW, what they may not have told you is the toilets stopped working, half the a/c stopped working, escalators stopped working, AND several vendors ran out of beer! :D

The plot thickens. They are now saying the system performed as designed and shunt tripped the power, but they don't know what triggered the fault. Hmmmmm..........

The stakes...$4million per 30 sec ad, 100 million TV viewers about to change the channel as the route was beginning to take speed, and the lights go out. Plus there is still NO real reason that has been given for it. All the electrical engineers, electricians, power operators, and no reason. Just gremlins. Or maybe one big gremlin well aware of the finacial stakes at hand, named Mr. Commissioner. I sniffed out Lance at the peak of his career too. It is not far fetched that this was planned at a meeting on a napkin by TV executives and the league.

Didn't listen to the song, but if you don't think things like this happen you are being naive. Where there's big money, corruption and unethical behavior are not far behind. Have you heard about the big soccer match fixing bust in Europe, Asia and Africa? Believe it, it happens.

Rats can cause problems on much smaller branch circuit wiring and smaller equipment. Major gear or feeders? No way.

Agreed. There is no way a rat can cause that much damage. If so, the infrastructure has some major, major issues. This was power big power surge from somewhere.

I don't know. If it were a surge they would have known that right away. Definitely not a rat causing the damage, but the longer this goes unexplained, it's starting to smell like one.

Also the niners were the home team, which means they had the luxury of practicing in the superdome all week long. If either team knew how to cut off the power, itd be the 49ers...

This and remember how they said we were old and slow and we couldnt stop the 9ers! They been saying that for two weeks and we when play kaepernick he is a no show all of a sudden! So Jacoby gives the 9ers the uppercut to finish the game with the second half kick off return game match set and point! And Art gets a sack to give the 9ers 3rd and 13, then the lights go out? Right??? So to my ravens fatithful this is a sham job to us cuz their media darling kaepernick was getting housed by the ravens which they didn't think cuz we are old and slow. Cuz of the press he has been getting and praise, and it was going down the drain cuz we was blowing out the 9ers, and Art jones sack brought them one step closer to us bringing the body bag out for the 9ers, and they didnt want to risk an possible Jacoby punt return, did you every think of that? It is a move to protect their new breed of QB (cash cow for the league), from disappointment from the super bowl possible land slide. Just my thoughts. And Mili I like the way you think, I was thinking the same thing sunday, I was going to stop watching the NFL cause of this.

I have to say, I'm rather grateful for the power outage. No one ever remembers blowouts. It's like the 2000 season Super bowl was wiped from the collective memory of the league. A close game between two head coach brothers with a major power outage will be remembered forever, though.
just got back about 2am this morning. on the was back i talked to plenty of random people, non ravens fans. they all said it was a good game in the second half. one older gentlemen said he went to bed at half time assuming the game was over.

so the black-out momentum shift had a definite direct effect on all people watching the game. only us ravens fans would have rather seen complete domination reminiscent of our 2000 run.

i'm still a little bit sore about how it went down,
but know, that everyone fan or not saw it. i do'nt think anyone will ever forget the utter domination before the lights went out. that's how it will go down in history

Beyonce performed all the additional lights, speakers, etc and no power problems . I think it was all about money like posted previously ppl were turning the game off.we were going for the kill the route was on this kid (kaepernick) didn't even know his own name and then ,,,,,,he gets an out.I am extremely greatful we maintained the lead and the win if not i think this would be a very different situation.no way that two days after they have no clue exactly what happened.
