Bernard Pollard, I expected MORE

No one plays perfect, and who cares as long as you win?is the point of football to win or just play absolutely perfect? I guess some people are just happy not being happy....

That's pretty foolish. Jaime Dukes? lol. The major goal was accomplished , doesn't mean it was perfect. We're world champs with room for a lot of improvement .
Indeed we are. There is no such thing as perfection. All that matters is winning. Why whine after we've achieved the ultimate goal? If you take that philosophy, you'll be whining about everything for your entire life and what's the point?

I knew he was NOT GOOD in coverage.. but ohh man! He played about as bad as a Strong Safety could have IMO. Missed a handfull of tackels, allowed a td..and was lost in coverage ALL NIGHT.
We need to see more from him next year. I never thought he would have stunk up the joint so badly. He's made some great plays and was a major contributor this season, but man did he look horrendous last night. I'm just glad we got the victory, but he saved his worst game for the biggest stage.

Thoughts?

I'll give a guy who played most of the season with 6 cracked ribs a little bit of a break... we're Super Bowl champs! It's all good!

People who strive for perfection ( even though its not attainable) are the ones you see climbing ladders. Its an observation, I dont care if you think its crying..

People who strive for perfection yes. Complaining about Bernard Pollard after the guy just won a Super Bowl is not "striving for perfection." We do not play for the Ravens. C'mon man.

So, I can't comment on an individual effort . Just because we won the SB, doesn't mean we played perfect. Im sure when Pollard watches the tape, he'd be pretty pissed. It's just an observation. He gave up a lot in the passing game and didn't deliver his normal tackles.
In his post game, Pollard already said he was pissed at himself and missed some plays.

I'm willing to give him a pass since he played with six cracked ribs and that is no joke.

Bernard Pollard is an excellent safety and he's had a really good season. I'm not going to criticise him just because he had an off night in New Orleans.

Pollard and Ed Reed are the best safety tandem in the league in my opinion.

I'm not talking about football, LIFE is what I'm talking about. The point is, all of these guys can get better and I'm sure THEY want to. You said I'd be whining about everything in life... YOU tied me directly into it, so Im saying..me, as a person, in my personal life , realize that if you stay stagnant and DONT WANT to get better... You wont. I NEVER said I was a player. You attached the argument to me personally, I responded to it personally.. Not speakig for anyone but myself. Is that not clear? Once again, what have I said that wasnt true?

Did he play well.. NO
Did he miss assignments? Yes
Would most players be dissapointed with the game he played? (with personal performance), regardless of injury? Yes
Were there MENTAL things he failed on? Yes, cant blame ribs for that..

My point is that it is a complete non-issue considering we just won the Super Bowl. This whole thread is an inferiority complex. You're talking about getting better like we didn't just achieve the ultimate goal. Are you saying that Bernard Pollard needs to get better in life and his current life choices are disappointing to you? Lol, it just doesn't make any sense. Yes, you have a right to talk about it, I don't fault you that. But when Ravens complain about people like Jamie Dukes calling us whiners (whether we value his opinion or not), this thread is an example of why.

You're lost in the sauce, man. You cant seem to grasp that a Super Bowl doesnt mean EVERY player played well. We played well enough as a team, but certain INDIVIDUALS did NOT play well. You're telling me to just close my eyes and have someone tell me the score... So, ANY player in ANY game shouldnt be questioned...becasue the team won?

Lol, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? The only reason you play is to win the Super Bowl. Doesn't matter how you do it. "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Again, it's complaining for the sake of complaining.

Lol, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? The point is that there is only one game that matters. That game is the Super Bowl. It's not "any game," it's the only one that matters. And. we. just. won.

I'll put it to you another way. If Bernard Pollard had played up to your standards how would the outcome of the game have been different? What tangible benefit would the team have received? We would've won by more? Oh the glory!

I wish Bernard Pierce could stay healthier. Wish Ray Rice didn't choke in huge moments. Wish Ray wasn't 10000 years old. I wish Ed was still 27. I wish Sam Koch didn't have the worst game of his career. Why is no one talking about these things?? Oh yea, because we won the Super Bowl.

And quite honestly, sure if we want to start a thread and go through guys that could've done better in the Super Bowl game, I could see that. But "Bernard Pollard, I expected MORE" in the context of a player that just helped your team win a ring (no matter how he did it) makes us all sound whiney, arrogant, and little bit more like Patriots fans every day.

The man broke 6 ribs in week 2, re-injured them at Washington, then re-injured them again in the Super Bowl. It's tough to play sound football with 6 cracked ribs. Not saying thats any excuse for poor coverage, but just pointing out that he wasn't going to be the "Crushboy" that we all know and love with broken ribs.

Once again... He played bad, I was disappointed. The other players you mentioned have been talked about too. Guess what? I still haven't stated anything that wasn't fact. Facts aren't "whiney". Facts aren't biased. Facts don't care what the score was. Facts don't care if its the Super Bowl.. Facts are facts. He was injured, he played bad , he was disappointed in himself, other players were disappointed to. Im thankful we won. Thankful his poor play didn't cost us the game.

I agree, but usually with time injuries get better... he played solid in NE with the same injuries. So, with a few weeks rest.. that tells me he had a bad game regardless of the injury. I like BP a lot, he's a beast generally. It was just the worst time of the season to put up a clunker.

Besides his injuries, this is his first SB appearance so he has an off day which was bad timing; however, we play as a team cuz he has his teammates back him up like Jimmy.

49ers had miscues all over the place but we have just fewer than them; that's why we are the champ...

I don't know what factual accuracy has to do with whether it's whining or not, but my key takeaway is some of us like to argue for the sake of arguing. Carry on ;).

Look... without Pollard, the Ravens don't make it to the Super Bowl.

Looking ahead, the Ravens play the Patriots in 2013. So, it's in the best interest of the Ravens to make sure he's on the field.

The news that he re-broke six ribs on the first play of the game explains a hell of a lot. You have to have respect for that man, if you didn't already.

Off-topic. But did you see how close we were to having a five game win streak? If it wasn't for that week 17 preseason game, we'd probably have a 6 game win streak. The quest for five is still alive.

LOL funny stuff but after we lost to Cincy I was like "welp, there's only 4 games possible so the 5-game winning streak won't be broken just yet"
