Unsung heroes/plays

49 posts in this topic

I think McKinnie should win playoff and Super Bowl MVP (the teams awards, not the won Joe Flacco won). With him in at LT our team took a new life. Flacco had time to throw. Flacco had had up and down games almost always based on the Oline. Oline was fixed in the playoffs and he shined. Mckinnie is the unsung hero. no question

Jimmy Smith played incredible on the goal line stand. Hopefully that'll shoot his confidence up for next year and he could become a shutdown corner like we all know he can be.

Cary Williams also played really good, I think he showed he can be a #1 corner, too bad he probably won't be in Baltimore next season.

Courtney Upshaw....wow. Dude is a winner!

That fumble he forced he will remember the rest of his life. His confidence should be out the roof next season!

pierce and a Couple of key third down runs breaking a tackle and moving the chains.
Pierce really made something from nothing at times. That third down pickup was beastly. He could've been stopped short three times!

That call for Koch to run out of bounds and take a safety was awesome.
I was going crazy on that call. I was concerned because if the kick was bad, they could fair catch and get a free kick from there and after a safety they would only need a FG to tie.

Who knew the 49ers would let Koch run around the end zone and take all that time off the clock? I guess John did lol

One play I haven't seen anyone mention is Cary Williams on the deflection in the end zone. I think he came off his assignment once the pass was in the air to tip it before Ginn could get it. This was right before what should've been an Akers miss.

John Harbaugh was absolutely excellent. First off, the safety was a great decision. If we punted it, they'd have a good chance to get one more hail mary pass in. Also, the fake kick was also a very good decision. At the time I hated it, but as Harbaugh himself said, it was low risk, high reward.

Suggs.
Stats won't reflect what he did. He was often the contain man and more often than not he got in and hit kaep keeping sf honest on their option plays and making sure everything had to run inside of him to allow the defense to get to the ball carrier.

Upshaw was also strong in his assignment in doing his job to keep things contained

Leach is always an unsung hero and of course the ol did great in not letting flacco succumb to pressure

Last but not least
Tucker made all his kicks.

Ellerbe's shoving Gore out of bounds to save the TD and setup the goal line stand.
Absolutely! Especially because a year or two ago he was benched in part for not trying to make a similar tackle against the Bengals or Falcons. He's grown.

Also, Tucker for hitting all of his kicks and forcing multiple kneel downs on the kickoffs, if only he had better wheels

And Ed Reed for fighting through his knee injury to return

Ellerbe made some great plays. His hustle to shove Gore out of bounds saved the TD, and his pressure on Kaepernick led to the poor throw to Crabtree.

Ellerbe gets a gold star from me.

Art Jones - Big bro of your UFC LHW champ. Played tough and relentless. Never gave up on plays. Family of champs (too bad his little bro plays for NE).

Ed Dickson - Big catches and plays.

Our O-line: Mckinnie-Osemele-Birk-Yanda-Oher

These group of guys on this specific formation. They turned around our offensive woes to 180 degrees. Im not sure how low the hurried/sack #'s are vs. Flacco, but they've played perfectly.

Actually... it is/was credited to Reed. Ellerbe stopped him at the 5, Reed pushed him at the 12-ish and caused him to step out at the 7 (never saw a second camera angle, but that's where the put the ball and that's who NFL credited the tackle to). Either way, good by both of them.
