Super Bowl XLVII - Baltimore Ravens vs. San Francisco 49ers

3,428 posts in this topic

I am glad Ray Lewis was able to retire on high note. No offense to Ray, but the 49ers offense was picking on him almost all game long. It's probably for the best, that he can now ride off into the sunset.

From Jim Harbaugh post-game interview:

When discussing his final series with the ball, Harbaugh said “there was no question in my mind there was a pass interference, and then a hold on the last play.”

He also griped about the “tackling” of his players on the intentional safety the Ravens took to burn clock, saying (rather huffily) “I never got an explanation on that.”

=====

Um, it's still a legal play, intentional or not, and we can tackle the defense just as they can tackle the offense!

He's a good coach but watching him on the sideline (temper tantrums, jumping up-and-down, etc) and listening to the comments he makes in post-game interviews, he's quite the crybaby at times.

I'm thinking John told the entire line to hold the 49ers. What's the worst that happens? There's a holding call when the ball's in the end zone and it's still a safety. There's no winding the clock, it's just a waste of time.

Players who don't tackle, fumble, and don't protect their qb blow a lead like that.
So do coaches that go for it on fourth down in field goal range

Congrats Raven fans on your super bowl championship. You earned it.

I am proud of my Niners for coming up from NOTHING in the last two years and finally making it to a Super bowl again. Kap has amazing athletic ability and can seemingly score at will when turned loose. He is young and makes typical mistakes of a new guy in the position (horrible clock management). And our offensive coordinator really needs to call a less conservative plan in the first halves and in the red zone, but he is often trying to run an "Alex Smith" type game and fails to turn Kap loose until we are way behind. Watching Kap come from way behind in the last few games gave me a lot of confidence that we were going to win this, but it wasn't meant to be.

Boldin was an absolute BEAST in that game, making impossible catches while being smothered by our corners. IMO, he should have been the MVP; I cringed every time the ball went his way, as I knew that even if the pass was [profanity deleted]ty or the coverage was good, Boldin was going to get it. The Niner safeties are the hardest hitters in the game right now, and Boldin didn't seem to care. Yet, the guy got almost no credit - everyone wanted to talk about Lewis, who was consistently ran over by Gore and the o-line (our offense seemed to target him). Flaco and his line were top-notch in this game as well.

Coach Jim was pissed about the calls, but really thats not what lost the game - going down 28 to 6 and running 4 [profanity deleted]ty plays with 1st and goal is what lost the game. The great play of the Ravens and bad play calling by the 49er coaching staff is what determined the outcome. I actually liked the fact that the refs let 2 hard-hitting physical teams play old-school football. I hate watching games where the refs are throwing flags every time someone gets touched. So coach Jim is wrong for [profanity deleted]ing about the refs, but I would still take him over any NFL coach right now; he has taken every crappy loser team he has come across and turned them into first-rate programs within a year. Just an amazing coach with lots of passion, but his few character flaws do not override the results he gets. The 49ers have a lot of young talent that they got on the cheap, so we will be back.

Kudos to the Ravens and their fans for struggling through some bad times this year and ending up being the best this season.

Did the boards crash any?
As they generally do, the boards got very laggy when things took a bleak turn. I don't think they crashed though.

i always go to sb nation and look at the section of whatever team we played last to see user comments and this super bowl was no exception. (i guess i just like to see what "the other side" is saying). i've never seen a bigger group of sore losers than these delusional 49er fans! it makes for entertaining reading, that's for sure. you guys should check it out. absolutely amazing what these fans say. i guess it shouldn't surprise me considering the attitude of their coach and some of their players (gore).

Shannon Sharpe just tweeted that the Ravens made him promise not to pick them. Perhaps he wasn't the traitor I thought, assuming he is telling the truth.
