Ravens Retired Cheerleader Not Invited to Super Bowl

Courtney Lenz has been a cheerleader with the Ravens for the past few years, and at the beginning of the season she said she was retiring to start her career. For some odd reason, the team excluded her from being on the 32-man roster to cheer at the Super Bowl.

I think its kinda rude to not allow a cheerleader who has given her time with the team for 5 years now. Lenz should be allowed to cheer in her last game!

Did you do any further research or just believe this article tells the whole story?

The Ravens defended Lenz's omission, telling ABC they trimmed the 60-member squad to the NFL-allowed 32 for the big game based on seniority, performance and personal conduct.

It said she 'retired' (quit) at the end of the regular season - why would she be invited to the game?

edit: also said she didn't have as many appearance hours as the other girls and she was 'benched' for not meeting weight marks.

But, all that aside, why would you get a trip if you're no longer part of the team?

This isn't like Ray Lewis retiring. This is her quitting her job. She just wants a free vacation out of it. Would my company send me on a week long conference the day after I subbmited my 'two weeks'?

As always, there are two sides to every story.

I hate team cheerleading, personally. I wish they would do away with the chauvinistic institution.

Hmmmm..... Not sure if you know, but the Ravens have males on their squad.

Considering how the Alabama ND game went, the cheerleaders are occasionally the only attraction at games for some teams (Oakland, Jax, KC, Cleveland)

And, by the way, if you quit your job, would you still get to go to company functions?
[/quote]

Bingo, she should have announced her leaving AFTER the Supebowl.

So basically she quit but still expects a ticket to the SB? Girl bye.

Now she's claiming she wasn't invited because of her weight.

She's really a pretty crappy (the s version of that word) person for going put of her way to get press and badmouth the team in this way, when the fact is she quit at the end or the regular season and is just bitter that she didn't get one last free trip just because we happened to make it to the superbowl.

Being an nfl cheerleader is not any sort of career in any way, so calling it "retiring" is just inaccurate nonsense and is just trying to make it sound better for her argument, when the actual fact is that she quit. They're basically volunteers, they get $75-100 per game, the free trip to a tropical spot for the the calendar shoot, and some notoriety and adoration at appearances and stuff and other little perks. A good friend of mine used to be a Redskinnette about 5-6 years ago and that's how she basically explained it.

This is just another non-story that will get thrown onto the pile of other non-stories in the media witch hunt against the ravens. The media is bad enough in real life with how full of S they are 99% of the time and everyone knows, hopefully at least, not to believe everything they hear because it's all half-researched exaggerated headline grabbing nonsense, and it's so frustrating that sports and nfl media is the same exact way. Football is not supposed to be this soap opera better suited for E! news, they're making a mockery of everything. It's really sickening and disheartening. Almost worth contemplating not a even being am nfl fan anymore, if every year we root for our team and our city to reach this exact point, and this is what it turns into? This is where it gets us and what it's all for, just media circus soap opera nonsense? What's the point? I would love if every talking head just woke up with their tongues cut out one morning. This whole week has just been despicable and is killing my will to support anything nfl related.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN do a story "Is the Raven's organization anti women" lol

Don't know who she is, and really don't care. Just what part of the word "QUIT" is she failing to understand? Maybe the Ravens need to invite Ricky Williams, JJ, B. Grubbs, C. Redding, and all of the other quitters back, simply because they made the Super Bowl. "GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK"

Here's Courntey telling her tall tale to Access Hollywood. She should get an academy award for her playing the victim role.

The only quitter on your list is Ricky Williams. He retired, the others were not resigned by the Ravens. Grubbs could have been signed but he wanted more money. Congrats to Grubbs though as he's in New Orleans but not playing for the Super Bowl as his team didn't make the playoffs.

I'm just not really that much into NFL Cheerleaders in this day and age - although there is one on the Ravens cheer squad who I like.

Now, back during the time from the mid-eighties to the early nineties, I had been an Eagles Cheerleader fan, partly for their looks, but also for intellect, as the organization stressed that their cheerleaders must be intelligent.

Most professional squads have men in addition to women, too. I just don't like how it sexually objectifies women.

I thought I read one time that the Ravens squad was the only one in the NFL that had both men and women. Other than that, she does look like she'd exceed their weigh in, the reporter looks a good deal thinner than her.

The Ravens are the only co-ed with a stunt and a dance squad. If you want to see how cut throat the whole cheerleadering thing is watch Making the team on CMT-- it's about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders you can pick it up on the website.

She should've waited to announce her retirement if she wanted to make it to the Super Bowl, it's just like any other job, you can't quit and expect to make it to the office party afterwards
