Donovan Mcnabb Didn't Know Games Could End In A Tie

8 posts in this topic

[quote]Thanks to Donovan McNabb, players around the NFL now must know there doesn't have to be a winner or loser in every regular-season game.

A day after the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals played a 13-13 tie -- the league's first tie since 2002 -- the focus wasn't on how poorly the teams played. Instead, people wanted to know how it's possible some pro football players, especially a 10-year veteran such as McNabb, weren't aware games could end in a draw.

The Eagles (5-4-1) have played 12 OT games, including one in the playoffs, since McNabb joined the team in 1999. Yet, the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback didn't know ties were possible until his desperation pass fell incomplete at the end of the fifth quarter.

"I've never been a part of a tie. I never even knew that was in the rule book," he said after the game. "It's part of the rules, and we have to go with it."

The NFL's overtime rule was adopted in 1974, and 17 games have since ended tied.

"I guess we're aware of it now," McNabb said. "... I hate to see what would happen in the Super Bowl and in the playoffs."

Uh, they keep playing in the playoffs or Super Bowl.

In McNabb's defense, several other Eagles players were just as clueless, including wide receivers Greg Lewis and DeSean Jackson, running back Correll Buckhalter and linebacker Omar Gaither.

"I thought we kept playing," Gaither said.

How is it possible that a 10 year vet franchise QB could not know that a game could end in a tie? What did he think the extra slot in a team's record was for? I like McNabb, but that's just pathetic.

I saw this too. I can't believe so many of them didn't know that a game could end in a tie.

Yeah i saw this interview also, after the game. How the hell did McNabb not know this? He's been playing forever yet he has no clue a game could end in a tie. Matter of fact, here's a better question. How the hell did SEVERAL players that play for the Eagles NOT no a game in Regular Season could end in a possible tie. Just total disgrace...

EVERY single player in the NFL should know each rule that comes along with playing in the league.
(which im sure MANY dont bother to read the rule book but common sense will tell you that an NFL game can end with both teams having the same score.)

I honestly can't believe McNabb would say something like that on National T.V anyway.

But it is what it is.

Honestly I thought they would play forever as well. But I'm not a QB in a game that's in overtime. It doesn't happen enough to realize they still exist. I thought they changed the rule a while back.

It's happened While McNabb was in the league. I guess fans don't really need to know it, but the 10 vet QB sure does. That's like a fireman not knowing how to work a hose.

I've always known. I remember when the Steelers had a tie game on there record. It was the last I could think of when I heard about the eagles game. Sad he didn't know. I wonder how many others didn't. It couldn't be many But I'm surprised he didn't know. I think the steelers tied with the Falcons on the last tie game. And I'm almost 95% sure The eagles played the falcons that year in the playoffs.
