IH EART DA RAVENS

Flacco on Cold Weather Super Bowl

Like others have said, if there is obviously no malice intended in the use of the word, why would anyone be offended or think badly of the person?

I'm not going to call it a poor choice of words, it's a normal choice of words. The majority of people are just far too oversensitive. Pretty soon even stupid is going to become a word you can't say.

I guess we can use the n-word to refer to black people now.

It's not being oversensitive. It's having tact and class. Retarded is not an acceptable word to use. It is derogatory in nature.

Anybody who disagrees that the word is offensive needs to wake up.

Unless you all go around calling black people "n*****s", mexicans "wetbacks", italians wops, and gay people "f*****s"

Just because uneducated people use "retarded" to mean "stupid" doesn't mean that you should accept it. Be the change you want to see in society and show some tact.

Some of us have spent our lives caring for those with special needs. Having people running around using the word "retarded" in a derogatory manner is offensive. If you were gay, or had a family member who was, would you like people using "f****t" to mean "a*****e"? Didn't think so.

I hate it when ANYBODY is grilled for the use of certain words - specifically when the intended meaning is far from what the media spin is trying them to make it out to be.

Slightly different but the same in terms of being crucified for no reason; the Alabama game regarding AJ McCarron's gf... Musberger didn't need to have apologised.

Just harmless stuff.

exactly. all he meant was stupid...

Let's all just agree that Joe is a good guy who meant no offense or disrespect. As a guy whose girlfriend's autistic son thinks I'm his father, I like Flacco very much and would be happy to shake his hand. I think if he could change his phrasing, he would, and he did backpedal over it almost immediately. Its a long, long week and as the QB (and a very scrutinized one at that) I'm sure Joe's already had his fill of interviews.

Do I wish he hadn't said it? Yes.
Do I hold it against him in any way? No
Am I surprised to hear it? From "Dull" Joe, yep, sure was.

My Uncle is gay, and I say stuff along the lines of "wow that's so gay", and so do a lot of friends I know, NO WAY OR IN ANY WAY do we mean any offense to gays, it's just a saying, you can call me "uneducated" all you want, I never went to college, and if I took offense to that you probably wouldn't care? if you did, you wouldn't of said that right? or am I wrong? because I'm uneducated?

Uneducated isn't an offensive word or a derogatory term, it's an adjective.

It is only derogatory if used in conjunction with a person. "he acted r-word" "you are so r-word" "that was a r-word thing for you to do".

It is not being used in any fashion related to a person. Therefore, it is not derogatory.

He corrected himself nearly immediately.

I have a nephew with special needs however, I realize the word is used as slang to mean something stupid. If it is not being directly used to belittle a person, it is not a derogatory use then.

Honestly, is this foot in mouth thing a Flacco family trait? His father referred to Joe as "dull". Everyone knows he meant down to earth and not flashy, but now all the talk is that Joe is "dull".

Oh okay, so that's okay to call uneducated, because the dictionary and society says it's okay
Gotcha
