Matter of Facts from Chff

10 posts in this topic

The Cold Hard Football Facts is breaking down some, you guessed it, facts about the last teams standing.

One example: Flacco, as everyone on this site should know by know, wears number 5. Kaepernick wears number 7 and when Jim Harbaugh was a quarterback for Baltimore, he started 12 games and had a win/loss record of 5-7.

And for what it's worth, according to Chff, only two signal callers wearing #5 have started Superbowl games: Donavan McNabb and Kerry Collins (0-2). Passers wearning #7 have fared much better, as we Ravens fans well know.

You've probably heard about SF's record in Superbowl games more often than you care to count, but you probably didn't know that in those games, 49'ers quarterbacks have thrown 17 touchdowns to 0 interceptions. All right, maybe you did know that, but it was novel for me.

Both teams are known for their ability to run the football well. Will they be able to achieve something which 8 of the last 10 Superbowl contestants were unable to do: rush for at least 100 yards?

My personal favorite:
Three Strikes and You’re In: After opening the season with a 9-2 mark, the Ravens lost three straight and four of their last five games entering the playoffs. And if recent history is any gauge, Baltimore’s recent skid all but ensures a win on Super Bowl Sunday. This marks the fourth time in eight seasons that one of the Super participants has lost at least three straight games during the regular season and the previous three all held the Lombardi Trophy by game’s end. The 2005 Steelers (3), 2009 Saints (3) and the 2011 Giants (4) all survived briefs slumps and won a title. By the way, the first team to ever lose three in a row and win the Super Bowl? The 2000 Baltimore Ravens…
If this is your kind of thing, check out the website for more facts.

I also found their (somewhat outdated) interception ladder interesting.

In case you haven't heard enough about passing stats:
The Ravens are 7-0 in the playoffs when Flacco does not throw a pick.
The Ravens are 1-4 in the playoffs when Flacco throws a pick. The lone win with a pick came against New England in the 2009 postseason, on a day when Flacco completed just four passes for 34 yards.
I always thought these were stupid. It takes just one game to throw off all the stats. Just looks at the whole Pats never losing after being up at halftime in Gilette. Didn't mean anything two weeks ago. Of course the 49ers have had great stats in the Super Bowl...Joe Montana and Steve Young were the ones in those games. They are HOF qbs and the best ever.

Flacco's wearing #5 and Kap is wearing #7? Forget about it then. #DontEvenBotherTurningUp
Halftime? Why wait - give it to them now and just have the Ravens play the Niners in flag football.

Broncos had 11 game winning streak

Patriots had 67-0 record when leading in half.

And those are actually relevant facts.

Im not worried about superstitions :)

Guess what, guys? Super Bowl teams are 2-0 when their starting QB's first name is Joe and their best offensive player's surname is Rice! Thanks for passing the torch, 49ers; this is what I call destiny!

Hahaha that is genius
