Please define "unnecessary roughness". Was the offensive player in possession of the ball? Yep. Was he in any way shape or form defenseless? Nope. Was their helmet-to-helmet contact? Nope.

Sooo.... what's the problem here?

Sounds like a heads-up play on Pollard's part.

I can see where this going... Now defenders have to watch how HARD they tackle. Hugs & kisses, that'll stop those pesky ball carriers.

So, Ronaldo McClain is going to be the only LB in the league who can play?

Man, and for a moment I thought BP was going to get off without a fine:

https://twitter.com/RavensInsider/status/294911508046041089

The NFL must have been like, "Oh, thanks for reminding me".

And I think the league isn't really fining him for the Welker hit more so they are fining him for the hit on Ridley... they're just using the one on Welker as "justification".

It was actually lighter than I expected. Does that mean Ray also got fined?

What about Mayo? He had a blatant helmet-helmet on Pitta but wasn't flagged... he deserves a fine, too.

I know that. You know that. The whole world knows that. And the fine on the Welker hit is complete BS... so, rather than fining him for a clean hit on Ridley... fine him for a 'suspect' hit on Welker. It doesn't matter why the cash is coming, just who it's coming from and where it's going!

It sucks but I loved what Dean Pees's response was. Makes me like the man even more!!

[background=rgb(225, 227, 228)]“I’m sure we are up there on defensive roughing penalties somewhere. I’m sure we are at the top of the list,” Pees said. “I don’t want to say that I don’t care; I do care. I don’t ever want to get a penalty, but sometimes those penalties you think twice about coming over the middle whether you got a penalty or you didn’t get a penalty. They all take their toll. I’m not saying that I want penalties or I want to hit somebody like that, but at the same time, we aren’t going to back off. We are going to play football."[/background]

To think there was a time not too long ago when defenders were taught to "separate the ball from the receiver" on contact. There was also a time when QBs hesitated to throw balls over the middle between safeties and LBs because their WR would get annihilated. Now it's just like, "meh chuck it over the middle, its either a catch, 15 yard penalty, or a catch+15 yards".

I think the favoritism is blatant at this point. the league preaches about "player safety" then they fine a deliberate and vicious kick less then a fine for small socks. you have to be kidding me. now this . why not just turned it into a flag football league or have the guts to say if you play for any team other then the broncos or patriots or any peyton manning or brady lead team get your checkbook out cause your going to be fined if u roll your eyes too much. this is a joke and the nfl is clueless .

I can declare that nobody can tackle better than Pollard and at the same time as clean as he is; he always keeps his head down and shoulder first before launching. Therefore, if the baller keeps his head low, the impact should be the shoulder to shoulder which sometimes involves helmet contact which is impossible to avoid with fast pace football. How the hell you stop some helmet contact when both lower their head before impact?

It's BS and our players will keep playing football and Goodgirl can fine them with his perception of lady game in play.....

I wonder how much money BP pays to the NFL yearly.
A ton, and especially considering the amount of air-time they fill with him too $$$. Also, he's not getting DUIs or beating women, he's playing hard which is what people tune in to see. Pollard is actually just what the NFL wants: a good, charitable man that plays a hard-nosed style of football - that's what made the NFL popular.

Still, NONE of these fines/penalties would be happening if former players were not suing for their head trauma. That is never far from these topics.

Clean tackle - $15,250
Wearing socks too high - $10,500
Spiking a defensive player in the leg - $10,000

Patriots watching the Ravens in the Superbowl - Priceless

Mayo got his fine. Pitta delivered it on the next play. But I still can't believe there was no flag thrown. Thanks go to the "Kraft Factor" me thinks.

Kraft will pay Godell whatever he needs to to get his way.
Expect Godel to suspend the Ravens next week so the Pats can play in the SB

So when do they start fining the ball carrier? Seems appropriate if you are worried about head trauma.

If Pollard ever retires, I want him to suit up for game time commentator; the dude is such a smooth and intelligent football talker...

PS: Back in the young age, if I was smooth talker like Pollard, I'll bet a lot of women been hitting on me...lol
