Ed Reed will play next year

Also, if you think QBs are nnot afraid of throwing at Ed, you watch the games, don't you? How many times have you just seen passes go towards where Ed is at?
Yeah, this is the biggest urban legend there is.
Any qb game plans against a good fs.
However, the problem is that if and when that ball is thrown Reed's direction what is Ed going to do about it? The guy cannot tackle to save any play, he can no longer gain speed on a wr, and he has actually dropped more potential INT's than he has made.
I can completely understand the Reed homerism. I love the guy, especially since he came from the U. But he is not worth even Top 10 money next season based upon what he did this season on the field.

If Ed comes back, he would have to settle for a smaller payday. Yes, he is not as bad as some critics make him out to be, he still is able to come down with big plays, he is still around the ball on a regular basis, he still puts fear in the hearts of QBs, but he is not the best FS in the game anymore and he comes down with injuries pretty easily. At one point of the season Ed even had problems tackling.
During this season Joe Flacco and Ray Rice have been the corner stones of the team. The crucial plays of this season mostly feature those two players and if we want to invest in our future as a team then we have to admit, that it's their time right now and those two deserve most of our attention going forward.
I hope Ed will understand that, because it would hurt me to see him in other colors.

Ngata has even said he's contemplating retirement shortly due to the toll it's took on his body.

Great news team-wise, bad news cap-wise. It's definitely worth it though. It will help the ease the transition the Ravens defense will be making in their defense.

For years, Purple Fridays meant I was wearing 20.. and, hanging up my jersey tonight, well, I can't believe there might only be one more of those fridays for this Reed-fan. And good grief, reading through these posts was worse than listening to the talking heads on ESPN. Reed has, just as Lewis has, made a legacy... and how lucky we have been that he was in a Raven's uniform while making it. Whether he finishes his career in Baltimore or not, his legacy will be as a Raven. The debates about how "good" he is or the "$", well, Raven Fan's- I believe we've had to contend with enough of those concerning Flacco in the media this year. Should we really be flinging squabbling amongst ourselves, especially NOW.. this week... really??? Enough already. Shouldn't we be basking in the excitement...WE"RE GOING TO THE SHOW! As I look at my jersey in the closet tonight, I have a bittersweet lump in my throat for this phenomenal player, amazing player and great man. I should still be in that blissful purple haze of delirium. I know our team is going to look and feel different over the next few years... but none of us should get so hung up on how and when it will change that we lose sight of this great post season... the one where the Ravens had 52, 20, 5, 27, 55, 82...you get the idea... on the field and they won it all when no one thought it was possible... there are fans from 31 other teams wishing that had it so good.

the support our fans show the players is just awesome! A hall of famer who helped build this defense and organization is getting bashed by 75% of the very fans that, if they saw him in person, would be begging for an autograph. Of course his play isnt as good as it once was, but the guys like ray ray, ed, and J.O. deserve our support and respect even if they were 90 yrs old on the field. without them this organization is nothing, and its a shame if any of them, especially reed, ever look at these forums. If he goes to the patriots, i wont blame him a bit after seeing the type of bashing these fans give him. I would never want to play for the ravens (which I love) if i saw some of the posts i see on here. I dont care how big of a fan you are, reed is and will always be more important to this organization.

Ed Reed's not going to listen to a bunch of fans on a forum. No matter what fanbase, they will all talk about a player when he has a big price & they underperform. It happens. It's the way it is.

If you were an athlete, you wouldn't be reading a forum for our opinions. You probably wouldn't care enough or it would probably make you laugh.

I still stand by my statement that Reed returns.

It's not homerism, he defended two passes from Luck, Peyton didn't want any piece of him and Brady threw into his coverage twice. The best thing about Ed isn't his interceptions, it's how he erases half of the field from an offensive gameplan.

Joe Flacco is the main reason the team is in the Super Bowl , not reed or rice
Wait, WHAT?! Ahahaha, yea Ray Rice has nothing to do with it, just along for the ride right pal? It's a team sport, champ. Methinks you need to chew on that a little bit along with some cheddar biscuits before you come back into the thread.

Ed hasn't missed a game this ENTIRE SEASON. And regardless of what you think, he is still a nightmare to game plan against. Quarterbacks by the name of Brady and Manning avoid his side of the field. You can't replicate that with a rookie or second year player. Ed is extremely valuable to the way we play defense with man on man coverage on the outside.
No he's not. He's been a liability all year what with his guessing and his gambling and his ball-hawking, he's been HORRIBLE this year and has contributed nothing to the Ravens Super Bowl run. If anything, he's actually made it HARDER for the Ravens. We're lucky this albatross is not gonna be here next year, that's for sure.

Oh wait, that sounds ridiculous huh?! I'll just :plus-un2: your post and move it along.

Sigh. Yeah same. That nerve damage (or whatever it is, i forget) in his neck really messed him up i think. I still think the torn labrum in his shoulder as been affecting him just as much.

I hope to see him come back here, but with the money situation here, i don't know if i see it happening.
sometimes its difficult to remember just how much a person/player means to a team.. a defense... a City....when a player gets bitten by the injury bug...... and as of late his physical style and interceptions have been down because of it... this is why im praying we do something in the superbowl....... to not only get Ray is 2nd ring... but to get Reed... his 1st..... and the memory of the years in Baltimore that led up to that gracious moment..... if he goes elsewhere....... he can just takes one look at that ring... and to which brings a smile as the memories of playing for Charm city come flooding back....
thats pretty much summed his regular season up, then as blood put it earlier, he's shut down one whole side of the field in the playoffs by playing his zone.

I dunno if you have all 22 film or not but watching it from the regular season you see alot more than what you see on the tv, he was caught of position multiple times a game in the regular season, sometimes the opposition took advantage of that others they didnt.

The playoffs however have been a different story.

Some say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I've yet to see a post you disagree with not have it, you seem incapable of having an intelligent debate or conversation.

lmao what a ridiculous first post.

Ed reed was one of the best players on the nfl. He's not even one of the best safety's in the league anymore I could name probably five I'd rather have next season. And no a Super Bowl win haS no bearing on whether we can afford him or not.

We either can, or more likely cant afford him regardless of what happens next Sunday.
Hes not the best FS in the NFL now?????? Glad you said that, could you please tell us who is btw?
if you read on from that post you'd find the answer to the question. There's been about 6 or 7 names mentioned.

Stop being delusional. Reed isn't the player he once was, younger better players have taken over the mantel of best safety in the league today, but none of them will ever compare careers with ed reed. Maybe I haven't made that quite clear.

Hes a hof best modern day safety in the league over the course of his career, but right now today he isn't the best due to mainly aging and injuries. His body just doesn't allow him to do once it once did. That's a fact no one can deny yet a lot of people still hold him on a pedestal.

OK, let's get down to it. Reed or Ellerbe? Reed or Kruger? Worse case scenario- Reed or Flacco?
All cases, I would let Ed walk...

Reed over Ellerbe or Flacco? First of all, their contracts aren't in the same area. Reed won't get money that equals those salaries or even expects money comparable to those. It's not a fair comparison.

Reed over Kruger? Reed. Kruger offers a lot as a pass-rusher but Reed provides leadership & mentoring. He also gets us set-up and into position a lot. That alone is valuable.

But if we sign or franchise Reed that will certainly hinder what we can provide to Kruger, Ellerbe, or even Flacco.
From this year's performance...I would take Kruger over Reed for next season.
I would not want to lose Ellerbe (our next Ray Lewis) to anything having to do with Reed. There is no comparison to overall value to our defense between those two.
Are there any great FS in the draft this year?

Definitely the deepest safety class I've had the opportunity to cover, which is why I don't think Reed will be re-signed. I love Ed, he's among my all-time favorite players easily, but that's the hard reality of things.

I don't think it will take that much to sign Reed. They say the cap will increase in '14 by a good amount. If that's so, you give him a modest pay this year with a higher pay the years after. There's no reason we can't keep Ellerbe, Reed & Flacco. We might even be able to squeeze McKinnie in there. I think Birk's done. I am sure Williams is. You can restructure Boldin and possibly Suggs & Leach.

Who leads the secondary without Reed? Pollard? Webb? They can. They have leadership. But then I wonder why Pollard looks better here than with the Texans. I think Reed has a lot to do with it.

I honestly think we will retain Reed. I see a similar deal like what 52 got.
