Report: Joe Flacco looking for at least $20 mil/year

1,573 posts in this topic

that sounds way out of the ballpark. that will not happen. They will work out a deal that is lucrative for Joe but still helps the team. i'm not that worried.

The guaranteed money and the bonuses.

Also remember that salary isn't the cap number, the only part that matters is guaranteed money.
What? his yearly salary he will get as part of the deal counts against the cap as well. Not the average, but the actual salary he earns that year. So how does that not matter?

If he's earning 20 mil a year over 10 years, compared to 18. That extra 20 mil will affect the cap one way or another. His guaranteed money and bonuses in both cases could be identical but his yearly salary would then have to be greater giving rise to a higher cap figure

A report less than two weeks ago said he only wanted 14. Not sure which to believe. There is no way he'll actually get that deal.
Exactly. This is just negotiations. Remember the Ray Rice rumors last year. Believe none of what you hear.

Obviously no one read the article.. John Clayton said contract talks for Matt Ryan is expected to be near $20M/yr and that although Flacco has faced plenty of criticism he now has an 8-4 playoff record and Ryan only has 1 playoff win, so it would be understandable if Flacco representatives ask for similar money. But will he get a $20 Million year is debatable.

Basically it's random contract talk comparing Flacco and Ryan once again, it doesn't state that Joe Flacco's agent asked for this or hinted at this it said it would make sense for them to basically wait for Matt Ryan's contract then demand more money based on Joe's playoff record.
id never go buy a title of an article or a thread if the article was linked, I'd read the article and form my own opinion of that but from what the op had written, which is a quote, he says he is actually looking that amount.

I'm confused. Can someone link the article or where is the quote coming from

Hey, if you discount the @Cincy game where Flacco was just put in for a couple token plays and then rested for the remainder, then his last 4 games (so, @NWE, @DEN, vs IND, and vs NYG) he has had over 100 passer rating, the first time in his career he eclipsed 100 in 4 consecutive games.

It's a little depressing arguing over whether or not a guy should earn 12 or 14 million more dollars in a year than I'll earn in my lifetime.

Yep, and last year we kept hearing Ray Rice wanted 12 million a year, but in the end he signed for a price that was a great deal for both sides. In the end, we're going to come up with a price that is good for both Joe and the front office, and 20 million is definitely not that number - I'm pretty sure Drew Brees' contract has killed any competitive ability the Saints will have in the coming future, and the Ravens Front Office knows this.

Do not give him $20 mil./yr! I do not think Ed or Ray ever made that much and they are sure fire Hall of Famers. ...Maybe Ray made around that much in his prime.

I don't see Joe geting or demanding that. Remember when we heard Rice was trying to get AD money? Can't believe what you hear. I think he gets something in the 15-16.5 range. Don't forget either that in the 2014 season a lot the guys caps go down. Ngatas was front loaded so he would earn most of his money the first 2 years. I think Rice's contract was also set up in a similar way. Sugg's contract should also go down significantly. If they can manage through next year the team should be fine. If the team can also manage to get the ring FA will come at a discount as well.

Yeah, but the NFL pay scale has changed a lot since 2000-2004 and in terms of what a position called for.

Yeah, in the opposite direction you would need to substantiate your statement ;)

Doesn't have the eye popping regular season stats to even sniff that deal
With Cameron as OC. He's the eye popping postseason stats, and career wins.

We will franchise his at $14 million and make him prove he can play this well an entire season. If he does then he deserves $20 million and we will give it to him. I've heard that the cap is supposed to go way up in 2014 anyway so it would be easier to make a contract that size work.

Its a part of the business, Linta knows the ravens won't pay 20 mill a year for Joe but he is setting the bar high so he can work down from it and still make a good amount.

I love all the panic that settles in. It's just Linta manipulating rumors to put himself in the best possible position for contract talks. Joe will end up on a contract with 18Mill at the very most.
Looks like somebody was paying attention when other star players demanded Peyton Manning money and happily signed for less. :)

i still expect him to get 16-18 mill a year.

But really guys, you shouldnt bash on litna, his job is to get most money possible, if you were going to get a job and you think you could get a little bit more, you would, plain and simple. Yea it sucks on the aspect of taken money from the team, but in return, its a business. Doesnt bother me a bit as long as he plays good in the superbowl, but if takes that deal of whatever money, he better be ready to live up to it, no more texans, chiefs style games....
