Update: Revis Island traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

149 posts in this topic

When has a team giving up multiple picks for one player EVER done any good?

Ravens dont do it.
Steelers dont do it.
Pats dont do it.
Packers dont do it.
Giants dont do it.
Colts dont do it.

Some organizations are just doomed from the top down!!!

We've traded multiple picks before - McGahee and Boldin - but those were lower picks. I'm sure Revis is multiple high picks. Potentially two firsts, depending on how dumb the Bucs are../p>

I'm hearing it's a 1st, 3rd, and 5th. If Revis is even 80%, that's worth it imo.

People don't realize how huge this could be for the Bucs. They have a great, I meant GREAT rush defense. The reason they sucked was because they couldn't stop running water in the secondary. With Revis and Goldson back there, they suddenly have a very good pass defense. With Doug Martin leading a very good rushing offense, if Freeman plays well, they are legit contenders to win that division.

The Falcons were 13-3 last year, but only 3-3 in division play. The Falcons have a 1st place schedule while the Bucs have a 4th place schedule. The opportunity is definitely there.

If Revis is healthy & returns to form, he is the #1 CB in the NFL. That's huge. It means the Bucs can stop Julio Jones & Matt Ryan as well as Drew Brees & Colston. That's big for the Bucs.

Yeah, meant these blockbuster trades where multiple low picks are given up. I loved the Carson Palmer trade. Ahahahahahahaha!!!!

I think it's funny how the entire NFC has this "one piece away" mentality. Bucs are getting D-line pieces back and already drafted Barron, so to them all they need is a CB. 49ers get Boldin, Seahawks get Harvin, Rams and Atlanta plan on trading up in the 1st, Eagles think Chip Kelly is the X-factor. Now we're supposed to think they're all legit contenders

Lol Palmer. That worked out so well. He's better than Flacco and the Raiders were going to have a top 5 offense - don't ya know??

Tampa Bay Secondary:

--Revis--Barron--Goldson--Wright--

Revis helps them a lot, but I feel the money they will pay both Revis and Goldson is going to be huge. It's still weird that they still have plenty of cap space to eat all these massive contracts from Darrelle Revis, Gerald McCoy, Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph, Donald Penn, and Vincent Jackson.

The bad news is that their D-line has been suffering injuries.

Front Four:

--Bowers--McCoy--Gibson--Clayborn--

They have good amount of picks.

1st sent to Jets
2nd
3rd sent to Jets (or probably next's one)
4th
4th
5th sent to Jets
6th
6th

Their needs are DL Depth, CB Depth, OT, and TE.

Their roster shows a lot of promise, but could fall if Josh Freeman doesn't show up in his contract year.

They need a legitimate pass rushers on the D-line. Seriously, Bowers may be arrested or suspended, and McCoy is off to Seattle. They need help on the d line not just depth. They need some help at T and a legitimate TE.
They also need help at linebacker and a decent CB to pair with Revis as well as a SS to pair with Gholdston.

TLDR: They need starters in several areas and have to hit perfectly on a lot of picks to make their team work.

Buccaneers secondary suddenly looks really good. They should be a playoff contender next season.

I love how the contract has ZERO guaranteed. I think that's crazy! .... He'll be getting paid a ridiculous 16 mill a year for 6 years if he last that long. I think it was great moves for the Buccs & the Jets.

6 year, $96M deal with NONE guaranteed. That's insane. Why did Revis and his agent agree to that? IMO, that's just stupid.

The trade was also only this years first rounder and a conditional 3rd or 4th in 2014. That's a lot less than I was expecting.

Decent front 7. Great secondary of Revis,Barron,Gholdson,Barber,Wright AND DANNY GORRER! ..lol

Showed last year that their offense could be explosive. Still got all their draft picks this year besides #1 in a pretty deep draft. Nice schedule.

Same here, and it's a "prove it" contract. I love it. Revis must be extremely confident.

16 million a year is what you pay a decent QB for a CB, no matter how good, it's way too much. Paying Revis no garanteed money is a great deal for the Bucs however and it certainly gives the Bucs a ton of leverage. Revis probably should get his agent fired.
On the other hand I thought, that the Bucs were willing to part with much higher draft picks next year (I heard of a 1st and 2nd round pick next year, or am I wrong?). I have no idea, why it's important to the Jets to obtain a 1st round pick in this years draft, which, albeit deep, is lacking in superstar talent.

Can we now say thr Jets game is a guaranteed W? Good move. Didn't like the contract til I saw there was no guaranteed money. I honestly like Rex as a coach and put most of the teams failures on the gm not improving the team during his tenure. If you look at the roster it had gotten worse since Rex got there. Will be interesting to see what they do with the high picks. Tampa Bay now has a secondary that could be fun to watch with another move, maybe Mathieu in the 2nd? They do need a reliable pass rusher though for any of this to mean something.

No guaranteed money? A 1st and a conditional 3rd/4th? Anyone who thinks this wasn't an absolute WIN for the Bucs is nuts.

I'm telling you all, the Bucs are one to watch in the NFCS. Like I said before, the Falcons were only 3-3 in division play last year and now how to deal with a first place schedule. The Bucs get the fourth place schedule, and without question have the best defense in the division (as it stands now). Great secondary, great rush D, great rush O. If they can shore up their pass rush and Freeman plays to his potential, they are absolutely my pick to win that division.

I can't criticize the Jets FO for the trade at all. After Revis got hurt, the Jets D still played well and Revis feels constantly underpaid. So instead of overpaying a position, they don't need to overpay, they get some draft picks out of it.
The thing, that I would criticize, is what they got out of it. Overpaid or not, he's still the best corner in the game. Atleast get a 1st and 3rd for him. Oh well, now the Jets can tap into all that Oline talent, that will be available this year.
Sanchez still sucks, but atleast now he will be well protected.

Wait. Freeman has potential?

Good size, good arm strength. He definitely has potential.

He played well in 2010, albeit against a ridiculously weak schedule, so I wasn't surprised to see him exposed these last two years. But he's still a young guy. They have an amazing rushing attack now and he has weapons in VJax and Ogletree, so no more excuses. This is his contract year, so he'll be motivated.
