Merged: Fan feelings on our upcoming Super Bowl

I think by the time gameday comes I will be more excited than nervous. The game that I was really nervous about was the Broncos game. That game was so emotionally draining that I actually felt strangely flat about the Patriots game last Sunday. Anything after that Broncos game was going to seem like a bit of an anti-climax though I suppose.
I know what you mean. The Broncos game was like the peak of the mountain. Everything else feels like its a down hill coast after that one. I was not (overly) concerned about the Pats game, and I feel pretty good about this one. Sixty minutes from history.

I'm nervous, because I hate the idea of Colin Kaepernick winning the Super Bowl.

The last time we had a young kid come in because the starter got injured, take over every game, become a media sensation, win in the play-offs, and win the Super Bowl... we got Tom Brady.

I cannot tell you how much the idea of that pisses me off.

If Alex Smith was starting for the 49ers, I'd be excited because I would know that I could be happy with the result even if we lost, because they have a lot of veterans that deserve to win and they have a Harbaugh coaching as well. But that kid Kaepernick just gets under my skin. Yes, call me a hater, it's as simple as that. Seeing a kid come in and take the league by storm and garner all the attention like that just makes me angry, even though it's petty and the kid deserves whatever he gets because he's a unique and heck of a talent. I just can't appreciate him winning a Super Bowl with fewer than a season's worth of starts under his belt. I can't abide it, I can't accept it, and I'm nervous as hell that it might happen.

Heck, I'm just enjoying the ride.

We now know what it's like to be a Patriot/Cowboy/Steeler Manning/Favre fan in the sense you can turn on ESPN and they actually spend time talking about your team.

I'm not nervous at all if anything I'm feeling real good/excited.

Anxious and excited for the game. Nervous that my busted [profanity deleted] Suburban can make it the 1,200 miles to New Orleans!

Right now I'm just enjoying the experience. I can turn on my television and not hear about the Steelers, Patriots, Cowboys or Redskins... it's all about the Ravens, and somewhat about the team who will play the Ravens.

Other NFL fans will see a few member of their team in the pro-bowl, but we are one of only two fanbases that still have a dog in the fight, so to speak.

And even though I am normally a staunch supporter of the "you play to win the game" "close only counts in horshoes and nucleur warfare" mentality. I can say with certainty that no matter what happens on Feb 3, I am so fantatically, ridiculously proud of my team.

You know, I was going to point out that there was another young qb who started due to injury and took the league by storm more recently than Brady, but that one was Ben Roethlisberger... and that is less pleasant to think about.

I didn't know anything about football during the 2000 season. My family hated football after the Colts left town, and I was raised without being encouraged to enjoy the sport. When the Ravens came to town, my family didn't seem to care. I guess we all jumped on the bandwagon after the 2000 Super Bowl. But we've been on ever since.

Not knowing anything about football during that Super Bowl, and the only football games I'd ever watched up to that point being Super Bowl games each year... Well, honestly, I didn't even know the Ravens were in the Super Bowl until the day of the game. And then I was like, wait a second, the Baltimore team is in it this year? That's pretty cool.

So unfortunately, I just wasn't really around for it. I saw the game. The game was astonishing. It was such a fun game to be a part of, and it was a great way to be introduced to the sport and to the team.

But I have never before experienced my team going through an entire season, through an entire play-off run, and making it to the championship. I wasn't born yet the last time the Orioles made it to a World Series.

This is uncharted territory for me. It's so unreal, it just makes it all feel that much more powerful to have been following along not just for the whole play-off journey, not just for the whole season, but for YEARS as I saw players and coaches come and go en route to this momentous occasion.

It's awesome!

The next 8 days leading up to Festivus Maximus are the BEST of times for Ravens and niners fans. We can turn to most any channel and see our Team being featured. We can carry our heads high knowing that we are at the top of the heap and envied by millions of other NFL fans. As we well know, this is a very elusive place to find and it should be enjoyed and appreciated to its fullest!

So try to ignore the envious folks talking trash. And try not to worry about winning this game, because our boys will go to NO and take care of that for us! Rejoice and know that we are extremely fortunate to be fans of the Greatest Franchise in the NFL!

Please feel free to join in and CHEER!

GO RAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFC CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed, and its the way we got there too. We straight balled out in every game in the play offs.

No one can say we backed into the SUPERBOWL, No one.

I don't know. For me the niners are the most likeable team out of the 6 that were possible opponents. It will take a mighty effort to beat the Ravens and I'm not sure anyone could challenge them if they play with the passion and desire that we have seen so far.

I'm not gonna worry about this game, I think we will be tough to beat. If the unthinkable happens you would have to tip your hat to SF.

Totally relaxed and supremely confident.

All that will change about an hour before kickoff though....

Surreal feeling.

I can't imagine two better teams to be part of this. I feel a connection between the two teams because of the Harbaugh connection. If we did not go to the Super Bowl I would want the other Harbaugh and his team in it. Obviously I want to win the game... but it will be a lot easier to lose to them as opposed to anyone else.

49ers suffer against teams who out muscle them on the lines and control the clock. That will be the key for a Ravens win.

I'm ridiculously excited, but waiting for the game to start is nerve-racking, and watching the game is going to be even more nerve-racking. You do all that work (aka game watching) to get here and now it's all or nothing. You either win everything or you win nothing. FWIW, conference championships are great and all, but you know what I mean...

This is such a good match-up. What a treat for an NFL fan. Harbaugh vs Harbaugh, physical team against physical team, the elite and legendary veterans of Baltimore getting another shot at a ring vs. a 49ers team that has endured years of horrible seasons, now led by a handful of sensational young players and an enigmatic QB.

IMHO, both of these teams earned it, both deserve it, both have the talent. There's no hype involved here. This is legitimately going to be a SUPER BOWL.

Well said my friend. This is the best match up there has been in a long time. IMO the NFL could not have scripted it better.
And we get to enjoy it!

Right now...I hate that there is a 2 week wait. Also, perhaps it is just me, but I would have thought this place would be way more active than it currently is, and I'm not talking about posters.

No One Winning Drive Behind the Bench stuff until Saturday. What's up with that?!

No video on the home page to commemorate. Then a hype vid next week.

Times like these do not come around all that often. We should know that right? Yet....I don't know.

I guess I'm just anxious for it to be time.
You know, I was just thinking that too.
I would have thought they would have some sort of Superbowl 'hang out' set up. You know where everyone can talk about what they're doing, photos, videos, etc.
I guess we as fans are not the only ones still in shock! lol

I have to 100% agree with this. When I hear people outside of here say they're not watching the Superbowl because the game is going to suck...I think they are either Steelers' fans, or they truly don't know football.

Here's the thing about that: every year fans of 30 teams cry about how much the Superbowl will suck this year, claiming that they won't watch it i.e. there was a thread made on the Falcon's website about how boring the two teams are and that the guy won't root for either of them. And yet somehow the Superbowl is one of the most watched television events of the year, every year. Most fans may not have a rooting interest in the Superbowl, but I don't know of any football fan who doesn't get excited about the Superbowl - heck, I'm even (though I'm ashamed to admit it) excited for Superbowls the Steelers are playing in.

You have to understand the position of the Falcons fans though. They were sniffing the air of Nawlins. It is pretty disheartening to be almost there, like we were last year. I could not bring myself to watch last years game. The wounds were still too fresh. So I get the Falcons and Pats fans. Actually though there are a lot of fans who are choosing sides. Saints fans are rooting for us since they were in the 9ers division, so there is no love lost. Steelers do not want the 9ers to get that 6th ring so we, begrudgingly, have them. I am sure Broncos fans are hating us so they are likely choosing the 9ers. It should be a pretty big game with lots of sides chosen.

I'm excited for those SB games the Steelers are playing in as well. To root for the other team! lol

There wasn't a bigger GB fan than I the year they beat the Steelers in the big game.

Those Steeler fans would be rooting against us (most of them) if it wasn't that they wanted to be able to use their "six rings! six rings!" argument and their Sixburgh for all time.

I definitely understand the pain of not being there (come on, we were a stripped pass from it last year), but I still watched the game. All I'm saying is that unless you're so hard-core that you hate every other team, it's hard for me to believe that fans won't watch the Superbowl. They'll have had 2 weeks to digest their loss, and the idea of not watching the Superbowl (unless you're me and have a med school exam the next day) is hard for me to understand.

Understand. I did not watch it last year. It had nothing to do with hating any other team. It was too depressing to see any other team play in "our" SB. Two weeks was not enough time to digest a loss. Particularly since we were so close.

Rather pathetic you aren't sending ALL your cheerleaders to the Superbowl. Really? You're only sending 3rd year cheerleaders, bussing them AND making them stay 5/6 to a room. How pathetic & cheap is that? They work for virtually no pay, pay for part of their uniforms & support the Ravens organization & team all year. Not to mention the Ravens organization makes thousands off their calendar each year. With all that's going on & the hype it's pathetic how cheap you're being. Send them all!! San Fran 49ers are sending all of their cheerleaders!!!

Can't say I feel anxious... not like I was over the Broncos and Pats games. Quite frankly, I don't think I've ever been so anxious in my life.. let alone for a football game.. let alone two weeks in a row. It's like we've already done the hard part.. accomplished the impossible.. to get here - getting past that last hurdle. We got here the hard way and they have been brilliant. I shouldn't rest my confidence on these laurels.. that just has never been the Ravens way. I like that we're underdogs with something to prove to the world. I think maybe once I start seeing interviews from NOLA this week, the brevity of it all will again begin to work on my cardio/pulminary and nervous systems. Let the countdown begin.. tomorrow is not Monday, January 28 - it is 6 Days Til The Superbowl!!!

Well, it really doesn't start in earnest until Tuesday. Is there such a thing as Ravens Overload? Lol!

Don't you find it funny that many complain all the time about little or no exposure in the media and now this?
