Well, he has played pretty decently for a nice portion of the year....one awesome season, two atrocious years, one decent year. From a franchise LT drafted in the first, I'd expect a lot more; not quiiiiite a bust, just very poor value at the position we picked him. Looking back with 20 / 20 vision, this is a guy we should have taken in the early 3rd round

Someone else would've snatched him before then.

I like Chykie.. I think he'll be ahead of Jimmy come mid next season...

Hopefully he can pull a Webb type of progression well w/o the Injuries

I like Chykie, he's a great STer like Cary was for us his first couple years. But actually made it to the field on d a lot sooner then Cary. He's very reminiscent of Cary in terms of skill set IMO. Similar size and skill set, but shows better ball skills.
Brown needs to spend a full offseason working on his technique. For a guy that was hurt a lot in college, he actually isn't that bad with his tech. But he will need to get past his mental errors (welker play) in order to improve.

I think he lacks the quickness and agility for the position, he's more of a ball player than cover man. I'd say he has a future at FS and Asa Jackson is going to be the next Webb.

any time you are basically a rookie playing against playoff teams with Qb's like Manning and Brady, and you are not constantly screaming his name out for screw ups... I'd say you are doing quite well indeed. A mid round raw pick, starting in his second year, and not making us long for the days of F---- W----- (that name I do not speak) is doing just fine in my book. Sure he is going to have his moments, but his physical play is why we ultimately beat Denver, with that tip ball he deflected.

The Shocker seems to be a grinder. He reminds me of Josh Wilson. Scrappy, and not scared of contact. He'll do us good. Im impressed with our corner depth. Im still holding onto Jimmy getting healthy and having a big impact next year. I think he's in Harbs dog house. He's gonna have to work hard . Same deal as Ellerbe , work hard play hard.

I don't think Chykie has the size to play safety. I say Jimmy could certainly be a safety though.

Oher was probably a Early 2 IMO. I think he can shut down most guys on the right . I still say he's a better player then Andre Smith.. with less baggage. One thing you can say about Oher, he's tough and plays every game. I think KO could be an AllPro Gaurd and a VERY GOOD RT.

Well he's the same height and 10lb lighter than Eric Weddle so it wouldn't be a stretch. Jimmy has the ideal physical tools for safety but he has no idea how to locate the football.

I think Chykie is turning out really well and it seems like every day I'm more and more impressed with our last two drafts. Both at the time seemed like we just got depth nothing more, but it looks like we got a bunch of studs up and down the board.

Putting Smith at safety would be a mistake for his skill set. Yes, Smith has problems but those would be maximized at safety and not minimized. He's also a good CB, he just needs to work on his technique. Smith plays the ball but has stiff hips and doesn't flip them well. This would be exploited at FS. Smith also bites on the double move. Smith is good in run support, better than Chykie. He has missed tackles but then so have all the CBs on our team. What I like most about Smith is that he is better than any CB on this team after Webb in tackling RBs. He has the strength to do it. He needs to work on his technique.

But this is a Chykie Brown thread, so...I have noticed Chykie is good in zone, man, & press coverage. Unlike Smith who does not excel at zone. Brown is a good athlete, in some ways better than Smith, and plays the ball really well. Brown, I would say, reminds me of Cary Williams. He has all the physical tools but needs to work on perfecting his technique. If he puts it together, he could be very dangerous.

Of all the CBs on our team, I would put Graham at FS. He said in the beginning of the year he could play FS if asked. This was back when Ed Reed was teetering on the edge of retirement and stirring up his drama.

Didn't Chykie originally look like a high rd draft player before he got injured in college. Could be wrong but I remember him being TX best cb but was injured.

I like him, but I liked him in preseason. He is developing well and will likely become a very good to extremely good corner.

No question he's better than Andre Smith. And I also appreciate Oher's durability.

After the last few weeks, I'm starting to warm up to the guy

Teryl Austin is our secondary coach. We brought him in when Pagano was promoted to DC last year. And yes, he is a great coach!!
It's only his second year in the position, but he's already been one of the best acquisitions during the Harbaugh era.

Honestly he reminds me of a more physical/aggressive Cary Williams. Both Cary and Chykie are tall, lanky corners, but Chykie seems to put his size and long arms to good use much more often than Cary.

Im excited to see how Chykie continues to develop. At worst, he will probably be a good nickel or dime DB for us, which he already is. He's definitely exceeded my expectations in that regard. But he could also develop into a very good corner, maybe even a starter.

I actually like the idea of Graham at FS. Kid is a playmaker, and quickly becoming one of my favorite Ravens

The funny thing was Chykie was technically the 3rd CB on the Longhorns roster, behind Curtis Brown (Steelers) and Aaron Williams (Bills). Chykie ended up playing both CB and S, but because of the talent ahead of him, he didn't get a lot of attention. Luckily, he fell to us in the fifth round.

Which makes it so much cooler when we find these guys like Chykie, or Webb, or McPhee, and turn them into superstars. Ozzie knows how to pick em.

No, that year Aaron williams always was their best corner. They had 3 Corners now in the NFL, so it was just a really stacked back field.

One last post (I promise) anything I have said the past hour on these boards may be very Irrelevant (what's new right?) anything I said, plz just Ignore.

On topic.

Chykie will be a starter. He will be part of our beast secondary in a few years. Why don't we move him or Jimmy to safety?
Depending on how Webb looks after his second surgically repaired knee he might be slid to safety. He played safety in college and would transition well. I'm just holding my breath that he'll come back and still be shutdown.
