Softball season!

8 posts in this topic

I have been answering a few e-mails today that is making me excited! :) We're gearing up for another youth softball season! This is one of my favorite times of year, because once softball try-outs and practices start up here in the next couple months, that means Spring is right around the corner! :) I know that's crazy to talk about in mid-January, but it's coming soon!

Go Lazers! The tournament schedule for 2013 has been released, and I'm excited to have a full season of participation this year. :)

Get out there and support your youth programs everybody! Coach, volunteer, it makes a huge difference in the lives of those kiddos! :)

I'm a softball coach, with my wife. We coach our oldest daughters team, and have been 8 years.

You're right. The impact on these girls lives is immense. So proud to be a part of this sport.

That's great to hear! :) I played growing up, and I started coaching after college. I work with an organization with several age levels, but I work mostly with the 12U club. I love that age group. The girls are so chatty, but they listen very well. It's a neat age. :)

Agreed.

Being from Canada, our playing season is literally 3 months a tear outside. We do tournaments to the States, usually Montana, Washington, and Cali. And in the offseason, we practice indoors. We play 11 months a year. The girls have grown up together, and that's so cool to watch.

The biggest goal for all of the girls is to get a scholarship to a U.S. university. I hope to help them in their goals. How rewarding would that be?

There are three current girls from my first two years of coaching that are currently playing in Division I or II schools around the country. That doesn't have anything to do with my coaching ability at all, but it's a testament to how exciting and competitive softball is. Again, bravo to you and your wife for choosing to make a difference in those girls' lives! :)

Nope, it's the girls for sure. They are the ones who perform. We're just along for the ride!

And good on you for being involved. It's an honourable thing.

What's the point of having a separate version of baseball for women? Strikes me as old-fasioned.
