If Caldwell is afraid to use the weapons he has (and I mean all of them, not just Rice), then he is weak stock. Running the ball almost cost us the game against the Pats. Again, I like a lot about his play calling, he is definitely an update compared to Cam, but it's not the run plays that got us to the Superbowl.
I have to disagree. We were struggling with the passing game until NE's cornerback went down. Talib was his name i believe.

He's in to help the Oline fellas. Everyone needs to calm. Castillo is an Oline guy, thats all he is and thats what he's good at. Reid hired him to be the DC for reasons unknown.

He is a VERY good Oline coach. Another set of eyes with breaking down the SF front 7 for pass protections and run blocking will help. Castillo was also the Oline guy in Philly when they had Westbrook (similar guy to Rice) and structured their Oline in how to block for Westbrook.
I hope he does because I feel sort of a disconnection with Ray Rice and the O line. They seem to get clogged up when Rice is in the game but block better when Pierce is in the game. Pierce (while he does have deceptive speed) isn't doing anything particularly special when the ball is in his hands. They are some pretty big creases that he's hitting.

You should really be in the existing thread. But I believe it's a good signing.

Zorn wasn't the god of QB coaches. Caldwell seems to be handling his dual role just fine, and the results are showing it. So why screw up something, that doesn't need fixing?

Juan Castillo was an O-line coach with the Eagles for a long time and he was very good at it. I always believed he would come here after he was fired by Reid as D-Coordinator. So, I think he will continue into next year in some capacity! What do you guys think about the hire?
He's just copying the Niners, because the Niners have two O Line coaches.

Exactly what I was going to say. You cannot wait to grab up a good prospect or he will be gone.
I believe the reason the Ravens hired Castillo is the same exact reason they hired Caldwell last year. They don't expect Caldwell to continue after next year, because he will get a HC opportunity elsewhere. They would like to bring Castillo in to understand the system and take over the OC job and Joe and the offense wouldn't miss a beat because the system would not change.

For now, he will be very helpful to game planning the SB and an added set of eyes..... my opinion.

Wouldn't be surprised, honestly.

Joe is gonna have to try harder than Sizzle saying that Pagano was horrible.

I don't think he does it, but it is possible. Juan Castillo is a damn good Oline coach tho. I hope that he at least contributes to that

Good point. We do have a habit of training DCs (in this case an OC) to become HCs elsewhere. Good looking ahead on the FOs part, just in case.

I feel like Ray Rice should get almost half his touches through the air with Joe passing the ball to him rather then handing it over. A lot of great plays have been made by the Ravens this way and Ray and Joe appear to have a pretty good chemistry out there in the passing game.
I know, that it seems counter intuitive to decrease Ray's rushes as a means to "fix the running game", but I think that Rice is too versatile to waste him on just his "appointed" position on the field.

RR alluded to that same thought during media day interviews. We need to get him out into space. DEADLY.

I honestly don't think Castillo would make a good offensive coordinator. I think we hired him to replace Andy Moeller next year.

With how John is setting up the staff and roster for this and next year, prepare to see a even more explosive Ravens offense in 2014. It took about 5 or so years but I think the transformation is just about complete. The defensive terrors that we once knew and loved will not be the same in the fact that they can dominate them games themselves and allow the offense to win off of field goals anymore rather they will get their picks and turnovers off of the success of the offense as well as some great timely blitz schemes. Defense will never leave the ravens, lets get that straight but I do not think the D will be the cornerstone of the team as it was the last 12 years in our history. Imagine a top flight D that can not worry about making mistakes because the O will continue to score and put the other team on their heels. I like that idea because it may lead us back to the promise land next year.

Point blank, by the looks of where the Ravens are headed, no one is gonna want to see the bank or any part of Flacco and the Ravens in 2014!!!!

Spot on. I really think we're going to see a lot of Brian Westbrook's scheming for Rice with the power running going to Pierce/Leach. The prospect that split back sets with Rice motioning to create mismatches might FINALLY happen is amazing.

The only concern I have is for Wilbert Montgomery who is considered the best running back coach in the NFL! I only hope the hiring of Castillo doesn't create friction with Montgomery. If you think about it, Wilbert is a good OC candidate himself, so why would he like the hire of Castillo??

Montgomery maybe consider a oc candidate but you honestly dont see alot of runningback coaches getting the opportunity to be a offensive coordinators.
