He will probably replace Andy Moeller next season... I like it!!!

Exactly what I was about to post and wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I dont know why people are freaking out. In my opinion it can only help for the SB and I think it could be great for next season.

Not sure how I feel about this move, but I do not like the timing of it one bit.
The timing of it is obvious to me... All the bad teams are not going to wait for us to win the super bowl to hire a good coach... We don't want him going somewhere like Pittsburgh. The Patriots have made similar moves the last two years.

He is a consultant,He is probably just helping out with Draft prospects because John can't make it to the Senior Bowl.

Per the Aaron Wilson article and the NFL.com article, it seems that he has been around the team the past few weeks since he was fired by the Eagles.

Anyone think his recent inputs affected the OUTSTANDING play by the Ravens o-line and the re-emergence of Big Mac? If so, great move by Harbs, who I'm sure had great connections with Castillo as a former member of the Eagles squad.

So what's up with Andy Moeller? I like the move. Any other set of eyes to help break down how to block the niners.

I'm loving this move, it shows me the Ravens are doing everything they can to win the superbowl.

Castillo from what I've seen is a very good o-line coach. I remember the Eagles being top 5 in the league in rushing a couple years back before he was named the D-coordinator. (not sure if this was with Vick on the team or not though).

As long as he stays away from the defensive side of the ball I see absolutely nothing wrong with this hire.

Probably just hired him to get him off the coaching market. It would make sense if we fire Moeller and then bump Castillo to o-line coach. That'd actually be a really smart move.

I am now positive that our fans know nothing about football outside of our own team. Castillo was a great offensive line coach who became DC for no reason. He will serve as the run-game coordinator (whatever that is) but offensive line is a position he excels at coaching.

To me it looks like he will take over Moeller's spot but they needed him off the market and didn't want to create any drama in the locker room by firing a coach right before the Super Bowl.

I like this move, Ravens organization is constantly getting better. Let's keep this run game ticking and allow Flacco to continue to shred secondaries.

I guess Im OK with it. It is kinda a head scratcher as far as the timing though.
Not really. Hire him as "offensive consultant" and say he will become "run game coordinator" next season. That sentence right there tells it all. They want him off the coaching market and they can't fire Moeller right before the Super Bowl. He will most likely be the O-line coach next season and were taking him now instead of waiting 2 weeks when he is gone.

You really think we will have a run game coordinator. That's as ridiculous as it sounds.

Juan Castillo is a great coach who was misused by Andy Reid to be a defensive coordinator. He was sacrificed by Reid to be a scapegoat. Good thing, the Ravens saw past the mess and see a good coordinator who can improve the team. Also it could be the Harbaugh connection because Harbaugh knows a lot of personnels from the Eagles. Our team should look good this upcoming Super Bowl and next.

Best move was to get rid of the status quo of Cameron and move with Caldwell, who is more calming than Cameron.

Well, I sure hope he can see some flaws before the Superbowl or something like that, maybe help the O-line enhance in some way. Unless he doesn't start working until some certain date.

Yeah I posted my first response after reading the first half of page 2. Many more seem to realize the situation. I was just surprised at people talking about Zorn when it has nothing to do with this hiring.

The way the OL has come together in the playoffs might have saved Moeller's job, but maybe not. Castillo would be a decent replacement, if he's fired. Over Moeller's whole body of work, the OL has been a mess.

People- He won't touch the defense; relax about that. He was the offensive line coach for all of Donovan McNabb's career with the Eagles. And, as we know, QBs only become great when their offensive line plays well. McNabb was 6x Pro Bowler and offensive POY behind Castillo's line.

This move will help our team...not hurt it.

New thread, I didn't realize he's been on staff for a few weeks. It would certainly explain some things.

This is actually a really good hire for the guys dismissing it. Castillo is a VERY established Oline coach. Why the hell Reid hired him to be a DC I'll never know, but the guy knows how Olines work and their interactions in the trenches.

He'll likely help with identifying the OT we take in the first 2 rounds in the upcoming draft.
I agree. This is a great hire IMO. The guy knows his Olines and will be a great help.

I wouldn't worry about the timing. Its not like he is going to come in and make any changes or have much of a say at all in the next two weeks. He's more likely going to come in, watch practice, get to see our guys. Be able to assess and contribute in the offseason. Sometimes if you like a guy, you have to make the move. I suspect the Ravens really like what Castillo can bring to the table.

This is an odd move... Castillo was not exactly creating new standards as an offensive line coach, it would make more sense if he was hired as a defensive consultant as that is where the vast majority of his experience is, not two failed seasons on the Philly offensive staff. Don't really know anything else about the move so I'll reserve any further judgement until details arise., hopefully it helps our team.

Our old line coach Matsko should have never been fired from the standpoint of doing his job. Whether there was discord between him and the other coaches, I do not know. What it did look like was he was made the scapegoat of our '10 line's struggles, despite the fact that Gaither is the one who put us in a bad spot and we had to play Yanda at RT all season...

Sounds like a good move. I was apprehensive because I remember him being a horrible DC in Philly, but hearing that he's an offensive consultant is cool with me. I'll have to go by what everyone else says cause I don't know much about the guy.

Run game coord? Is anyone fooled by that? That'd almost be an insult to the offensive coordinator if that position actually existed.
