When the Niners are forced into the Dime, Willis typically comes out he and Bowman can switch sometimes. So 4 WR lineups Willis will be on the sideline the Niners have been doing this all year. Really that is nothing new.
You are right. The 49ers deserve to be favorites in this game. Just like the Broncos and Patriots.

Trail breaker, what is your take on Willis coming out in the dime as opposed to Bowman?

Many of us know, Kap and Gore are not much of a problem. But I have heard many call this D the best since OUR Baltimore D in 2000. So naturally I got to the bottom of it.

DLine

Justin Smith- All pro. Great player, but like Ray, he tore his Triceps and is not the same player.
Sopoaga- Probably the most underrated DT in the NFL. Good solid NT, but not nearly the player Wilfork was
They have Ian Williams who is also solid.

So is this better than the Adams Goose thing going on? HELL NO! In fact, that DLine is only mediocre.

Where that D excels is the LB corps

That entire corps is basically the all pro team.
Willis is the undisputed best in the game. I have even heard some call him better than Ray was in his prime (not a chance in hell), but he is the best.

Bowman is the best coverage LB in the NFL. Great coverage guy.

Brooks is a great run defender

Smith is a beast.

However, they are reliant on Willis to do most of the work vs the run. Pierce and Rice are hard to contain. We might have a chance of being successful vs them

Where the Defense is overrated is the secondary

Desean is a great Saftey, but seriously? The rest of that secondary isnt that great

Rodgers benefits from a great pass rush.
The Other DBs have gotten beat by the Seahawks and Pats WR. You can pass vs them

With that said, it isn't easy with the pressure the LBs put on the QB.

The key to this game will be the oline. If they can protect Joe, that D will be ripped to shreds. This is a big if however, as handling Smith, Willis, Brooks, and Aldon is no easy task. I will put it into presepective

Justin isn't getting past Mckinnie at his current condition.
Osemele has a huge task helping vs Brooks/Willis. This is where the game will be won/lost, containing these two is a huge task
Birk should take out Sopoaga.
Yanda vs anyone is Yanda
And Oher who contained Von Miller, should do good vs Aldon.

IF, the line can protect Joe, I will say it, I don't think the game will be close. We have too many weapons for them to handle. Their DBs have been embarrassed the last two weeks. That is where they will lose the game.
The one difference is Aldon Smith is a MUCH longer defender. Miller is a compact guy that oher can engulf, Aldon is a long shifty rusher.

It's never good when your captian comes out of the game especially when calls (or relays the play) to the defense. I'm proud he is humble enough to do it, personally though while Bowman is good, Willis is great and he should stay on the field.

It is odd to take Willis out if he wears the green dot. Unless, Bowman wears it but I assume Willis does.

An odd thing I noticed is that Willis was taken out in some pass coverage packages when they played the Packers both times.

Correct me I am wrong, but I NEVER remember Ray (Willis' idol, mentor, & favorite player) come out when he was in his prime in ANY package.
Ray was unstoppable in his prime.

Ray was one of the few players in the history of the NFL that was always, regardless of who it was on the other side of the ball, was the best player on the field. He was fast, a hard hitter, great tackler, and a damn good LB in coverage. Famous for making some INTs. I hear many out here call Willis the best ever. Well, Lewis in about his 5th year was in talks of being the best ever. Willis is nowhere close to where Singletary used to be, nevertheless Ray.

Exhibit A of Ray's coverage ability was SB 35. He excelled in zone and man. Covered backs, TE, and WR while tipping 4 balls.

Also, 1st 6 seasons Stuffs:

Ray- 64.5
Willis-21

Aldon Smith isnt anywhere nearly effective if you can slow down Justin Smith. He's the key to everything they do. I say run in straight at Aldon and attack the secondary.

Lol you're one to talk. Tell me more about how terrible Flacco is! ;)

Irrelevant... You're not giving the 49ers enough credit.

That front Seven is Freakin Scary. Matt Ryan Torched them last week, that secondary is a point of weekness outside of Desean. We have a good enough arsenal to make some noise there.

Yes and no. Their secondary thrives on the success of the front seven. If they have a good day up front which they likely will, our run game will be killed and Joe will get hit. That helps the secondary a lot. Another note on the secondary: They run press coverage almost every snap. Press coverage is our passing game's kryptonite.

9ers front 7 is the toughest test for our O-line. You make it almost sound like they will have little problem matching up.

To say this game wont even be close is laughable imo.

What I said. If the Oline can contain the front seven (that is a big IF btw). Can anyone really press Torrey?

As long as we don't run on every 1st down like we did in the 1st half and we play and execute like we did in the 2nd half of the Patriots game then I honestly think we will come out with the win. But this will be no game we can walk all over them.

Hell yeah people can press Torrey! Did you not watch the game yesterday?!?! Torrey was getting pressed like a college receiver last night. Beating the press hasn't been a strength of his. He very rarely gets separation in press.

I am scared for our line against their front seven.

Contain Smith, you also basically take away Aldon. As seen this season. Brooks is a problem, and there MLBs are the biggest problem.

Don't get me wrong, they are a damn good team, that is why they are in the SB. But if we could take care of the press coverage and get the ball out of Joe's hands quickly. Our O might be succesful vs them.

I think our O will successful because we can have a very balanced attack. The press is designed to take away the short routes and everything inside. That's why I am concerned for the passing game.

We win the offenseive Battle, they win the defensive battle, while our D is a very good D.

We win the balanced battle. Balance will win the championship. Kapernick has not face the football mind in Ray and Ed in literally now, their last stands. I think that SF will struggle. If our O, can find a weakness in that D, I think we will pull this out of the gate

I got the feeling Ray,Ed & Suggs will all play out of their minds.

Rice better not you know what. That's honestly my biggest fear.

They gave up almost 400 yards passing to Matt Ryan, their secondary can be beat. Its going to be tough to protect Flacco, luckily our o-line has been getting better and will help to give him time. Its gona be another Flacco or bust game, hes our only chance, their D-line will eat Rice alive most likely and our defense is in for another big challenge. So if Flacco plays good in this game we should be able to come out on top.

The Broncos AND the Patriots tired to press us and their corners got burned. The deep ball is what our passing game thrives on. Torrey has a big :) on his face every time he is pressed, he is too fast, Champ Bailey is one of the best jammers at the line of scrimmage and surprisingly Torrey got by him at will. The Broncos had a great secondary and we found a way to torch them. So as long as we can protect Joe, which he will likely get rocked around and thrown to the ground a lot, we should be able to pass on them.

Torrey had once catch in the first half. One. Which, as it happens, was not against press coverage. Most of his catches were not against press coverage.
