Flacco, Ryan seek fans' respect

This debate has been settled

Ryan
Future hall of fame TE with two elite NFL WR. Still no SB

Flacco
Two great WR, two solid TEs, no weapons like Julio though.
Gets to SB, and if he keeps the hot hand, probably a SB MVP and will go down as one of the greatest young QBs ever.

Unfortunately, I don't think Joe will get MVP simply because everyone will vote for Ray. Not that that is a bad thing.

Joe is more than deserving of the MVP award in my eyes just because of the past three weeks. He has DOMINATED defenses. You can see the game really starting to slow down for him.

I've never understood why quality of receivers is not brought up in all of the QB discussions. After all, they are a pretty important part of the equation. Don't ya think?
Because Joe never had great receivers and therefore it doesn't discredit him to bring it up.

Doesn't mean the Jaws is biased. Means that he knows Flacco much better than idiots like Jamie Dukes and Heath Evans

Are they even still around? Seriously...

You know how every time Superman is around, Clark Kent is nowhere to be found?

Likewise, every time Dukes and Evans appear, hardbaugh and edreedfromtheu are nowhere to be seen.

Hmmm....

That is a tough pill to swallow. Gonzo has been playing at such a high level for so long and only got his first playoff win last year. It was sweet, but its a shame. Great player and guy.
I remember early in their careers, Gonzalez and Heap were neck and neck at the top. Too bad Todd got hung out to dry by our QBs and ended up often injured. Gonzalez remains a beast and although he is on a team without playoff success, he's still going out on top of his class.

Agreed! So proud, and it feels so good to have always stood behind him!

If Joe has another huge game, there's no doubt in my mind he'll get it. Unless Ray or Reed get's a pick 6 or something. But like you said, not a bad thing. I just want this win so flippen bad.

*snickers* Funny you should bring that up, Fly. After all, Joe Flacco doesn't wear a #5... that's an "S" on his chest. :P

Of course they are - how much coin do you think NFL Network saves by keeping them on instead of hiring real analysts? That's my theory anyway.

I'm a lot more confident in Flacco than newbie Kaepernick! Mike Smith and co. found a way to bottle up Kaeppy Feet, his most dangerous weapon. Without that, he's no better than Alex Smith. Pees will exploit this newfound weakness to the max.

Ryan's a good QB, but he's no Joe Flacco. At this point in his career, Ryan lacks the calmness and nerve in the real pressure situations that present themselves in the post season.

All of the "fire" and "rah, rah" stuff is way over rated. Give me a QB that is level headed, not getting too high or too low. That quiet, confident demeanor inspires the confidence that spells success.
Truth. There isnt any QB in the league that I would rather have in a pressure situation. "Joe Cool" is so spot on. He is completely unflappable.

Matt Ryan is a very good QB just not at the same level. I am not saying he cant ever win, but he doesnt have the resume of Flacco. Joe has a way of elevating his game when it really matters.

I read an article somewhere yesterday (monday) that said "It's amazing what a playoff run can do for someones image".

I agree, but he was specifically talking about Joe. I think it's amazing what these analyists say once they are forced to watch full 3 game of Flacco...Against the Colts they were more excited to see Luck, against the Broncos they were more excited for Manning, against the Patriots they wanted Brady, they STILL believed in the Golden boy who hasn't won since spygate.

We Raven fans (most of us,smart ones anyway) has seen this potential in him since he's been a rookie. The MSM has, up until this point seen it totally differently. I think this all goes to show us, we can't trust what they say about certain players on different teams, and we have to be the judge for ourselves. So before you judge a player according to what NFLN says about them, think about it yourself first..... They focus on all 32 teams. We focus on only 1. We know more about our team then any "analyist" or fan....And even though we're 5 point underdogs once again for whatever reason, we KNOW we can beat them.

So don't ever complain about not getting the proper respect from MMS, EVER again.... Flacco is past that point in his career. He's already proven 5 times he can make the playoffs, 5 times reach the divisonal round, 3 times go to the AFCG. 2* times go to the superbowl. 1 more thing to prove Joe! JUST WIN BABY!

GO RAVENS.

The asterisk is there for the obvious reason(s). He's proven TWICE he can lead us to the glory land!

It would be nice if the analysts actually watched the game tape, specifically the all 22. If they did they would realize just as Greg Cosell did that the reasons for Flacco's inconsistency was a mix of poor blocking and terrible uncreative playcalling that didn't allow receivers to get open. Cosell compared Cam's offense with that of a 1960's ball club because of it's simplicity. When you run the same plays over and over and send the team's possession receiver deep on half of your plays the secondary tends to have a good grasp on what plays are being run which allows them to sit on and undercut a lot of routes.

And then everyone wonders why Flacco overthrows the ball or takes sacks because if he doesn't and decides to throw the ball to a well covered receiver he will start throwing a bunch of picks. He tried this in the beginning of several past seasons which of course resulted in interceptions. After this he had to start playing more conservative taking the safe throws e.g. the checkdowns and this is also the reason why his passing yards have never been high. In a well run Air-Coryell offense the quarterback should have gaudy numbers.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to Raven fans that once Cam was fired the offense found some consistency. And it's not like Caldwell is using a different playbook, he's just not totally inept at picking the plays.

Well we've taken on 2 mobile quarterbacks and lost this season - Vick and RGIII - but IMO in both those games their RBs did more damage than they did.

Because Joe never had great receivers and therefore it doesn't discredit him to bring it up.
What is amazing though is the Pats and other forums are talking about how superior our receivers are. My first impression was what? I mean I like our guys but I would not have held them as superior receivers over the past fews. In the off season, I was dissapointed that we didnt have a receiver who would go up and get the ball nor did we draft or fill that role. Instead we brought in another speed receiver. But over the past several weeks I have started to notice a change in how the receivers play. Boldin has definitely started to return to his former agressiveness. We saw it every now and again over the past couple of years but never on a consistent basis. He has really turned it on as of late. The other play I have seen a huge change in is Torrey Smith. He has always had jumping ability but he never seemed to take advantage of it. But again, over the past few weeks, he has been going up and getting the ball. I cant wait to see what Torrey does next year.
Again, it's about discrediting Joe. Now that he actually does have some guys who can play big, that's their excuse for him succeeding. Ask the fanbase of any team we're about to play: in this case 49ers. It'll be the same thing. "Good defense, good weapons, their weak link is the QB". They're just afraid Joe might be better than whoever they got.
