Go Ravens

Opening up the Offense

12 posts in this topic

Shouldn't Billick open up the offense this year? McNair should be ready in his 2nd season. We should have our best running game since Jamal's 2000 yard season, with McGahee. We've got the best set of WRs in team history (Clayton and Williams have potential to be great and Mason can still play, and then there's Todd Heap, the best TE in the league). We've got one of the best lines in the league (ranked near the bottom in sacks allowed last year, with teams such as Indy, Washington, and San Diego that are known for great running games).

Considering the way the offense played in 3 out of the 4 losses last year, isn't it time to do what the rest of the league is doing and open up our offense? Billick broke the record for points scored in Minnesota in 98 and this team definitely has comparable talent to that team (McGahee is probably better than Robert Smith was, McNair is arguably betting than Cunningham, and Minnesota only had Moss and Carter at WR that year). Why not try to score more points this year? We aren't going to win a championship by scoring 6 points in a playoff game against the last-ranked run defense in the league, as we did last year.

Reports indicate it will be more spread out and Willis is the reason why. He's a good single back set runner which allows for more 3 WR sets.

d-will looked good as a rookie last year so I'm expecting alot from him this season. Hopefully mason doesnt pull his normal " not getting the ball enough" act this season, and hopefully mcnair can stay healthy again.

Dude, Mason said that once, out of frustration after the Colts game.

agreed on that one man. IF the Ravens (as a whole) can stay healthy and make plays for Positive Yardage, then i see no reason why we shouldnt do GREAT this year......

Definately showed he is a deep threat. It should really be alot of fun this year running 3 wide with Clayton and D opening things up deep so Mason can get stuff underneath.

With so many more weapons to use this season.....I think Billick might have a little more guts to get the ball down field ;)

with the first game, ya right down the throat of Cinci!!!!!

Actually, Mason complained about not getting the ball twice. He did it after the Steelers game and the Colts game. I think after he starts the season as the #2 WR, he will shut up and play. Either way, D.Williams needs an even bigger role in the offense this year. We need to go deep at least once every game and on one of those plays, the throw should be to D-Will. Every time McNair or Boller threw to him when he was more than 10 yards down the field, good things happened.

I'm really excited about the running game. The Ravens running game has been sooo.... boring for the last two years. It looks like all that will change with McGahee. He's smaller than J-Lew but he's quicker, faster, can bounce outside of the tackles and break longer runs. On top of that he's a better receiver so the Ravens can run more screens and swing-routes.

I wouldn't be suprised if we had a top 10 offense this year. The offense is going to show everyone that Colts game was a fluke.

Personally, I'd like to see us with the #1 offense and the #1 defense. If we had a dominating offense last season, we might have gone undefeated (in 3 out of 4 of the losses, we scored under 10 points and we lost the other game by less than 1 TD with Boller at QB).

I gotta think Billick has been waiting for a year like this where he can really open up the offense and show off his "genius". Hopefull, McNair and others stay healthy and allow him to do just that.
