This sort of reminds me of that woman who got caught lying about being in the World Trade Center on 9/11. She was finally caught after convincing millions that she survived the tragedy. I still don't understand how he can be a victim that easily. Did he just not know her real name and assumed she was someone else? I'm so confused.

[/quote]watched an interview of the guy that interviewed Teo on the ESPN xbox app after the whole traumatic event happened, and supossedly when Teo was asked about whether or not a picture of her could be obtained, he said no. When they were looking for her name in obituaries, they could not find her.

What I don't get about this is, if he really did get catfish'd, why does Notre Dame feel this need to have a press conference about it? Yeah, it involves their player, but why is it their concern? How does it reflect on Notre Dame in any way?

Part of me says he lied about meeting her in person before (that they actually had met in person, I mean) because he wanted to make it seem more personal and stave off any people saying that she wasn't real. The other part of me... well, it is a little suspicious....

Catfish is a TV show focusing on people in online relationships with people who aren't who they say they are, and then the culprit (or catfish as they call them) is forced to explain why they lied. It was based off a movie of the same name made based off of suspicions that their friend's online relationship was just too good to be true. Basically, they expose the people who aren't who they really are, you know?

Speaking to your specific question rather than the story, print media is notorious for taking liberties with quotes and details. Part of it is because of some reporters' insistence on relying entirely on handwritten notes without the aid of audio recordings. Other times, they're editorial oversights.

There was a good point made on Twitter that, in reference to Te'o having said he "met" her, he may have referred to meeting her online rather than in-person. Context is key.

However, beyond that, there's so many conflicting reports and confusing details that we won't know the truth until someone fesses up to telling a lie.
