Go Ravens

Michael Vick Dogfighting Case

6 posts in this topic

Vick has been indicted on charges of Dogfighting in the last few days. There are reports that he has electrocuted dogs.

-----------------------------------------------

If this stuff turns out to be true, I hope the NFL hands Vick a lifetime ban. Vick has a history of causing trouble for the Falcons. A few years ago, he was alleged to have given some woman an STD under the alias of "Ron Mexico." He was arrested at an airport this offseason for carrying a bottle with a substance that allegedly smelled like marijuana. He has disrupted his team in the past as well.

Shouldn't the NFL have decided to give him a suspension in order to stay consistent with their Personal Conduct policy? Or does the policy not apply to perceived superstars?

Nothing against you Go Ravens, but I was really hoping this would be the only board that the Vick debacle didn't come up. Ah well I still think we did good in not having it as one of our first topics and not having it brought up until now.

You should really provide a link with this information when starting a thread.

HERE it is.

I wouldn't say he deserves a lifetime ban from the NFL, but he does deserve some suspension in my opinion.

  • Innocent until proven guilty. Has the media learned anything since Nifong set back the justice system by years with prosecutorial misconduct against players of the Duke lacrosse team and the media bought into it, hook, line & sinker?
  • Will the pressure groups (PETA, Humane Society) mount sufficient pressure to have Vick suspended before being tried (following the Pacman precedent).
  • If convicted and sentenced, I predict that Vick will get a lifetime ban -- under Goodell's law & order administration and public clamoring.

Let's not forget to mention when Vick flipped off his own Atlanta fans. Sounds like a real classy guy.

SportsCenter says all of his endorsement deals are on hold. I hope they all pull out (and I believe they will).

I also thought it was kind of funny that the morning of Vick's endictment, the league said that Pacman Jones could be on the practice field with his team even though he's suspended from playing. I'm wondering if they were aware that things with Vick were going to go down and then they'd have to deal with questions from the media regarding how they were going to handle Vick in light of the Pacman precedent. Vick is one of the "faces" of the NFL--the complete opposite of Pacman Jones. I would bet that if other guys get into trouble over the next few months, their punishment might not be as severe as the league would probably prefer only because they can't drop the hammer on some guys and then not do anything about Vick.
