Haloti Ngata, where ARE you?

53 posts in this topic

I won't be negative regarding your post as everyone has a right to express their view. In regards to your question "Ngata...where you at" and whether we overpayed I'd ask another question;

What would the defense look like this year if he wasn't there? We've not played up to our standards ( I often use possessive pronouns when talking about the Ravens, bare with me)and the guys have admitted that, so imagine where we'd be today with out him

Someone in a prior post alluded to it; every time PK, Mcphee, Jones, Sizzle get a sack, every time Graham, or Williams get an int, you can bet Mr. Ngata had something to do with that.

We spent well...he's worth every penny imho.

I think Art Jones is a starting DE. I think our focus should be NT or DE/OLB. Depending on if you mean the 5 technique or like Suggs DE
I think Art Jones will be a starting DE for us next year. I kinda hope we extend him like we did Webb. I think his stock is on the way up. I like him at LDE due to his prowess in the run game.

Apples and Oranges. Watt was a monster , don't discredit his season.Watt has been more disruptive , as he should be... Totally different players. Id like to see Suggs and Watt on the same line . : D

Add Clay Mathews and that is one wicked mean trio.

Ngata Wilfork Watt. Just no where to hide.

Sadly Oz decided to use that pick to get Boller, when two years later we could have had Arod.

Ngata has had shoulder and leg injuries for most of the season and rather than rest and heal up for a couple of weeks he continued to play week in and out on a struggling defense that was already bitten by the injury bug.

I think Ngata and Ed Reed both probably played a majority of the games 70-85% healthy, which has caused them to miss some plays they might make. Like sure tackles or shedding a block to stuff a play. Sometimes Ngata gets up field quickly but since Cody or Kemo gets washed out Ngatas penetration creates a major gap in the defense. I've seen that in almost every game.
Watt can do almost everything that Ngata can.. Ngata can't do the same. If Watt were in our defense, he'd WRECK things. no question.
Absolutely no question that Ngata + Watt = total and complete annihilation.

But I would not go so far as to say Watt can do everything Ngata can, but Ngata cannot do everything Watt can.
Watt is an amazing pass rusher, but can be a bit soft at times vs the run. Running at Ngata is suicidal, but Ngata's pass rush is inconsistent (yes I know he is not there to pile up sacks, but point is just that he is not in the same universe as JJ as a pass rusher).

Ngata can also play dominantly anywhere along the 3-4 front. I dont see JJ having great success playing NT. That versatility is immeasurable.

Not saying that one is better than the other, because we are comparing two completely different beasts in different environments. It's like asking which is better: peanut butter or a 3570k processor.

The only thing that I can attribute Ngata's drop-off to is not being at 100% physically. I am pretty positive that we will address DL again very high in the next draft.
Goooo RAVENS!!!

The dude is playing at 70-80% at best with his multiple injuries and he still was able to shed some blocks. Leave the best defensive lineman in the game alone.

I love Watt as much as the next guy but I don't understand the surprise that he's become so dominate. The guy was essentially a sure-thing coming out of Wisconsin and was picked 11th overall by the then lowly Texans. People act like he was some sleeper pick or something lol

Made one of the most important plays of the night by hustling down Brady when he could have scrambled for the 1st on 4th down. Well played big man.

80% Ngata is still better than anyone else on the line. Let the man heal up and have his surgeries during the offseason before we write him off. He's only 28, he'll be back strong as ever.

I was a bit surprised to see the D didn't sack Brady once last night but they did hit him 7 times. Haloti led the way with 3 hits.

Brady was also hurried 14 times & had 3 balls tipped at the LOS (Pollard-1, McPhee-2).

McPhee- 5 (3 hurries + 2 batted balls)
Haloti- 4 (2 QB hits + 2 hurries)
Kruger-3 (3 hurries)
Suggs-3 (1 QB hit + 2 hurries)

A handful of players had 1 or 2 of the above.

Brady felt it. Kruger did a good job of getting in Brady's face when he went to throw (especially screens). I think Brady felt Kruger for the majority of the game. Suggs was alright. McPhee did an absolute fantastic job in the interior. Some of the best interior line play I've seen from our guys.

But just like all the games we play against Brady. Make him feel the pressure (not necessarily sacks) and he will make mistakes. You could tell he feel the pressure.
