Flacco Contract Situation

I have some questions that probably board members can help me with:
1. With Joe Flacco playing the last year of his contract and no extension this year, what would have been his situation if he sustained a serious injury? Or if, heaven help, he sustains one in the AFCG or SB? Is he on his own, SOL beyond this year? And what would his situation be if he had a new contract in place, negotiated prior to injury?
2. I'm assuming he would be SOL without any any contractual agreement beyond 2012. If that's the case, then he has been in a risky situation all year from a financial viewpoint.
3. If he does not agree to a contract beyond 2012, will he be eligible to negotiate with any team as a free agent? Or, I suppose, Ravens can franchise him for one year at a $$ figure that's average of top QBs in the league. But he would then be eligible as a free agent to negotiate with any team after that one season?


Sorry if my analysis is off base, please clear the info up for me if it's wrong.

Every playe at one point is in the final year of their deal and plays with that risk. Nothing new here

And I don't think the org would leave him hanging if he suffered a career ending injury or an injury that would mean he's out for a full season and no one signs him.

It's funny how it took TT to get Joe to move his behind when the pressure gets heavy. He used to just stand and take the sacks. He moved more this game than he has all year.
