"Pierce generates more momentum and is harder to stop."

No - runs againsty an easier defensive scheme. Surprised so many fans struggle with this.

Nice bit from ESPN:

"Rice finished with 94 yards and one touchdown in between the tackles, the most against the Broncos this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Denver entered this game with an NFL-best 3.52 yards per rush inside the tackles.

This marked the first time in seven playoff games that Rice gained more than 70 yards rushing. Rice, who totaled 131 yards rushing, also became the second player this season to produce 100 yards rushing and a touchdown against Denver. The only player to do so was New England's Stevan Ridley in Week 5,"

http://espn.go.com/b...h-up-the-middle

Pierce had 2.8 vs Broncos on 5 carries.

I dont buy that teams stack the box against Rice but not Pierce. Defenses know that Pierce is a dangerous player too. I just think Rice is worn down a bit...he doesnt have the same burst when he carries the ball 25+ times. Hopefully Pierce is healthy so we can keep them both fresh and effective.

He twisted up his ankle midway through the 2nd I think it was. Luckily we have the extra day to rest tomorrow so Pierce will be given 3 or 4 days rest of no practice I would imagine to heal up. I'll be shocked if he isn't ready to go next Sunday.

he had an ankle injury before the game. he missed a couple practices and was limited towards the end of the week. hopefully they just wanted to avoid making it worse instead of this game making it worse.
It's his knee and he came into the game with the injury which explains his sub par performance against the broncs.

Hopefully he gets healthy this week. We need him.

Not sure why you don't realize Pierce is the better power back to pound up the middle. No reason to defend RR as Bernard is an excellent compliment to him much like Ricky W. was last year.

We need a healthy Pierce this week to have the best chance of winning.

Lol the funniest thing to me about the Rice/Pierce debate is the how durability isn't even considered. You can't have an impact if you can't stay on the field and Pierce has come up gimpy in just about every game he's played in. There's no way he could handle 25+ carries/game for any extended period of time (or one game, for that matter). That's the value of Rice and honestly I would take either Rice alone or both Rice and Pierce, but I would not be comfortable with just Pierce (now or in the future) simply because he can't stay healthy. That tall, lanky frame is going break down quickly in this league, especially considering the amount of work he put in in college. Not saying he isn't great, but Pierce needs to remain a backup for durability reasons alone.

Nice bit from ESPN? more like tiny sample. Pierce is harder to stop because he's heavier at a similar speed, see: Newtons laws of motion.

His running style is a bit worrisome in that regard. He keeps his body too upright, you'd like to see him lower his shoulders a bit more. Its something that has been criticized about Foster (but Foster has proven he can take the hits).

I believe the injury he's been nursing is a nagging one of a late. Trying to play through it but it hasn't been smooth sailing. Hopefully he's healthy for this game. Because unlike how I felt about his style against Denver, it plays well against the Patriots gaps.

I expect pierce to bulk up, that was his scouting report. He was gonna put on 10-15.
I'm still taken aback that Ricky left after last year, tried to find a team, then retired. I'm sure he's sitting at home pissed at himself that he could have been on this ride now.
The way he goes airborne scares the crap out of me. He'll learn quick that he needs to keep his feet on the ground.

He seemed pretty comfortable with the decision, but of course there's no way of knowing. He's definitely a "different" kind of guy, but is to be respected for holding to his convictions.

The only way to 'pound up the middle" would be to hit Raven OL in the back because they are in the way most of the time

Rice is listed at 212. Pierce is listed at 218. You telling my 6 pounds makes a big difference? Talking about physics - Ray Rice has calves bigger than most DL - and he can keep running while falling. He uses his arm like a third leg. Nobody runs two feet of the ground like Rice. Ray's compact size and huge legs are actually why hes better than a tall back at corkscrewing through a pile in the middle. That's a reason Ozzie picked him.

Losing a game that close to superbowl can drain players mentally.

It just shows to tell you how strong our players mentality are. They got grit and they came back exactly where we left off last year. Props to the Ravens for that.
