Do people follow the Orioles because they think they're going to win?
I'm not a baseball fan at all, but if I was and I had the attitude that the Orioles were going to lose then I would not be an Orioles fan. It's not a crime to not be a fan of a perennial loser simply because they are a perennial loser. Would you buy cd's from a band that consistently put out bad music? Or go watch moves from a director that consonantly put out bad movies? Sports are no different.
Umm the thread starter said Housh, I know we didnt pick up T.J. in FA....did we?
No. I believe he meant our young kicker. For short they call him Housh, but I think its spelled more like Hausch. His full name is Hauschka.

People who follow the Orioles do not think that they're going to win, period. Visit orioleshangout.com or camdenchat.com . We follow the Orioles because it's nice to follow progression and get closure on a player/prospect from the beginning of his career to the end. I just don't see the joy in only following a team when they win; I need to be emotionally attached or else I would not get a rise.
How is Washington not legitimate, or Baltimore for that matter? If you're purely basing legitimacy off of wins and losses, then Baltimore is a valid win, irrespective of where Flacco was in his progression. And by that same logic, the Steelers have two more legitimate wins than the Ravens. You're criticizing me for breaking down the games, yet you tried to make a justification for Flacco and the Ravens end though they're sitting a 6-4, a clear indicator of how good they are, right?
Wrong.... #1 I said I'd give you Washington... #2 This Ravens team currently at 6-4 is NOT the same Ravens team at 2-0 that had to play the Steelers after that Texans game cancellation debacle. It was Flacco's first ROAD game in the NFL in arguably one of the most hostile environments, not to mention it was a night game with even more added pressure. How can you possibly throw out Flacco's progression at the time of a win for the Steelers? It has everything to do with how well he played that game (or didn't play, considering the turnovers he committed, from which he has learned via PROGRESSION not to commit now). So, to review, WHEN the Steelers played us in Week 4, that "win" has no legitimacy due to 1) Flacco's progression at the time 2) Flacco being in his 1st road game in a very hostile environment 3) Our O-line hadn't gelled yet, and it keeps going....

That's fine, I don't only follow the Ravens when they win, I've sat through the 5-11 and 4-12 seasons from the beginning, but I always think positive about it no matter how bad it is. But if the Ravens never showed any signs of getting better ala the Orioles then I'd be doing something different on Sundays and wouldn't feel a drop of guilt because of it. Fortunately for us Ravens fans, we have an owner that does his best to put a winner on the field every year, and that's all you can ask.

Baseball is like watching the grass grow to me, the fan base survived last year and we are a WR and CB away from being a very good team.

Man, you're contradicting yourself all over the place :(

"So, in other words, the Steelers still haven't beaten a legitimately good team."

Followed up with:

"Wrong.... #1 I said I'd give you Washington..."

Huh?

"When we played them it was Joe's FIRST road game in the NFL and we were still getting our feet under us offensively."

Followed up with:

"bad breaks or not, these teams have proven they can't win more than they lose."

So if they've had bad breaks and issues just like the Ravens, why does Baltimore get a pass and they don't? Granted the Ravens had a rookie quarterback on the road, but the Steelers had a plethora of injuries and I'm sure the Charges and Jaguars have excuses as well. A loss is a loss, period.

Oy, I never gave us a pass, we haven't beaten anyone either, but we don't make the schedules. I am just saying people like you need to stop slurping the Steelers' when they haven't beaten anyone of significance... Why ARE you slurping the Steelers'?

We have beat bottom feeders.

I still have hope in this team but until we prove it and beat a good team we aren't a contender.
Lol... just funny.

They're indisputably the better team, and I'm not disputing that.

rebuilding is such a dirty word. To me, a team that is rebuilding is one that has a lot of problems and is looking to head back into contention. Going into this season.. yeah.. ill admit, it was looking like a rebuild year. Things changed though.

Our rookie QB went from 3rd sting to starter, then, from starter to work in progress, then, from work in progress to a young growing QB with skills that no one expected this early in his career.

ANd

Our very young O-line turned out to be great!

with these 2 big suprizes coupled with a defense that has been way above average, we have managed to have a 6-4 record thus far.

To be a contender (for the superbowl) you must BE one thing....... in the playoffs. In this regard i agree with you, we are not offically contenders. BUT The mere fact that we are bouting for a playoff spot does make us contenders. There is no reason to believe we cannot win enough games to make the playoffs. Yes, our secondary is banged up, but having a below avg. secondary does not mean we will lose the next 6 games and certainly does not mean we are not contenders.

Go Ravens

Our OL looked good pass protecting but was horrible run blocking.

Harbaugh has eluded to the fact that this is one of those years where you start implementing a plan. You can tell he is anxious to clear out some of Billick's players (C-Mac, Rolle, Willis) in favor for younger and more team oriented players.

While it might not be a rebuilding year, the ravens are gonna have are hands full trying to make the playoffs, if they play like they did today.
