Contender? yeah thats not how it works, our local heroes don't even give hometown discounts and that number you posted is roughly half what Trent Williams gets. The market will dictate what he's worth and demand will drive it higher.

I don't think we stand a chance, personally. I don't even think we'll have the cap space to keep our in-house FAs, let alone a premier LT.

we could tag joe... but better not to!
was referring to the title - price tag!
so was basically saying there's very little chance we look at Long when we got more pressing business and our cap is not very friendly
Well if we manage to sign Joe, cutting boldin and Ray's Retirement would free up 11 million and change which should be more than enough to make a run at him.
I'd rather go after Albert. He had a better year and probably could be cheaper.

agreed. If we can keep Joe and two or three of Ellerbe, Reed, Kruger and Cary I think that is a pretty successful offseason. If we add someone like Long or Albert we will be lucky to keep Joe. Who knows though I have heard Moriarty and Dick Cass are salary cap whizzes.
This upcoming draft class for left tackles is pretty thin since Matthew and Lewanare staying. That should drive the price up for LTs in the free agency market. Someone is going to overpay for Jake Long (Chicago, Arizona, Buffalo)

True, and he's more durable. They don't have a replacement for him and a whole lot of cap so I'm expecting he'll be tagged.

Haha more like 8 years $93M! Scouts inc. rated Jake Long as the best tackle in the NFL for 2012 and he most definitely is the best tackle besides this one hiccup of a biceps injury that put him on IR in december. He will most likely want top O-lineman money, and the Dolphins have the cap room to give it to him and if they dont someone will.Based on previous tackle signings does anyone have any idea what type of contract Jake Long would command. He's had a pretty poor season to say the least but the potential is most definitely there. I'd like to hope that he'd also take a bit of a pay decrease because we're a contender. Something he wouldn't know in Miami.

Tackle Joe Thomas of the Browns got a 8 year $92M ($11.5M/year). contract in 2011. Jake Long is arguably better than Thomas and if he wanted to could bark up that tree of getting paid the highest which would be 8year $93M. Atleast im thinkin 6 years 70 some million ($11.6M/year).

Wouldnt say head and shoulders better than him, this is Long's first dreary year other than playing like the best tackle in football. But in any case better worse, it doesnt really matter, fact of the matter is Long will get paid big money.Since when?
Long is coming off a poor year in which he was injured while Thomas continued to prove that he's THE Premier Left Tackle in the NFL. Thomas is head and shoulders above Long.
