RG3 Having Reconstruction Surgery

46 posts in this topic

From Adam Schefter:
Uh-oh: @mortreport reports Robert Griffin III will undergo total reconstruction surgery of his right knee early Wednesday morning
So the quarterback that they gave all those picks up for quite possibily will never be the same for the remainder of his career, and it just started!

Wow. So were these old injuries or did ngata just ruin this kid?
Ngata gave him the initial hit, Shannahan killed him by letting him play injured.

Shoot. It was a beautiful hit by ngata. I'm not blaming him whatsoever. Some suggested today that these are lingering problems for rgiii

Sad for him. I think he'll bounce back though, just won't ever be as fast. Still fast though.

They'll lean on the run with Morris who looked GREAT. Plus they'll have Helu back next year. RG3 is a great passer, maybe this will be good for him? He'll pass more and run reckless less.

People are going to expect a lot more from him after The Curious Case of Adrian Peterson...

If I was RG3 I would reach out to him and ask him all about rehab and the mindset he had to be in.

Here are some more details:
According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Griffin will undergo “total reconstruction” surgery early Wednesday morning to repair complete tears to his ACL and LCL. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery and he is expected to miss six to eight months. Mortensen reported at 1:03 a.m. ET that the surgery would take place in “about six hours” placing the actual time of the surgery somewhere around 7 a.m. ET.
Mortenson's also reporting that the ACL tear was a re-injury to the graft done to repair the knee in 2009. The LCL tear is new, and both occurred sometime in Sunday's game.
What happened on the Ngata hit was diagnosed as a sprain after the MRI, and would have healed easily had they not allowed him to continue playing.

RGKnee is an arrogant punk. After the Ravens game , he said he was down before Ngata hit him and it was a late hit. That was absolutely false.

This whole thing is sad that kids career could possibly be over. anyone who watched that game knew he should have been taken out after the first quarter.I'm not a coach or a medical person but i could see he was injured .

Can you provide a source for that quote?

Living in DC I have had to endure the entire RGIII saga. I like this kid and think with any other team he would have a hellacious career. However the Clanahans are going to gut him and toss him curbside in two years!

6 to 8 Months? Guess Kirk Cousins is going to be the starter for the Redskins next season while RG3 ends up on the PUP list to start 2013.

Mike Shanahan is a deplorable moron.

He gambled his franchise QBs career on one playoff game and lost both. I've always disliked Shanahan as a coach and I'd never, ever want him coaching my team.

Shanahan just played someone who CLEARLY was in no shape to play. He should be punished by the NFL one way or the other for his handling of RG3 and his knee injury.

That time table is a little too optimistic. I believe RGIII messed up the knee he already had repaired in college, which means that it is going to take more time to heal. He won't be the same player next season if and when he returns. It takes a full year to truly get back from an ACL anyway. People will cite Adrian Peterson, but AP is a freak of nature.
I like his personality. I think he's a real good person, he's just super competitive. I'm sure once he saw the hit he didn't feel that way anymore. It probably just frustrated him because players are always aiming to hit him super hard and after feeling Ngata rock you I would be pissed too. Whether it's clean or dirty, it came from Ngata, NGATA. he was probably still in shock lol.

Agree100%.
The way he's been talking out of both sides of his mouth about this just proves what a snake he is . He and Snyder deserve each other.
The really sad part is, the ONLY person with enough character to accept any sort of responsibility for this fiasco is RG3, himself.
Cryin', cryin' shame.

I don't need a source, it was the post game presser on CSN Washington.

I am not a skins fan, but I was yelling at the TV on this one. I was SUPER pissed, and the more I read and the more I herd about it the more pissed I got.
That kid should have NEVER have been on that field. Cousins could have easily carried the skins to a victory against the hawks.
No one is accepting responciblity in this matter. Its a big steamy bowl of he said and I said and no he didnt.

I didnt even start watching that game till the third quarter. I saw RG-III hobbling around and I could not believe he was out there. When I found out he had been hurt since the first quarter I lost what little respect I had for the redskins organization.

I would not blame RG-III if he looked for a job elsewhere.

I have no idea who gave them that ridiculous time table. Even for just an ACL it is longer than 6 months.

Anyway...new time table.

"It is unclear whether the 22-year-old quarterback will be ready for training camp in August. Recovery could take as long as nine to 14 months, James Gladstone, co-chief of sports medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine told USA TODAY Sports."

He's probably the best back-up QB in the league! Undefeated so far, including a last-minute heartbreaker against the Ravens. WAS would definitely be in good hands.

Mt. Sinai! New Yorker pride! :)

Anyway, you're timetable is far more reasonable. People are already raising their expectations after the miracle that is Adrian Peterson.

They tend to rush athletes back into action sooner than us regular guys. Because they're in peak physical condition as it is, I'm guessing the recovery is easier for them.

Yeah but considering this was already reported as a complete tear of the LCL and at least a partial (if not complete) of the ACL, within a knee already held together with pins and rubber bands, I do not see that rush thing happening. I would expect more towards the long recovery time.
