Your favorite Ray Lewis moment

80 posts in this topic

Ray on Eddie George for the ENTIRETY of the Divisional game in 2000. Ridiculous game.

That or Ray in 2009 blowing up the Jets FB and the impact caused Shonne Greene to fall over on a 3rd and 3.

Wasn't really sure where to post this so if it gets moved I understand.

Interesting thing I noticed...the caption under Marv Lewis said "Coached by Ray Lewis 1996-2001"

OOPSIES!.

Sitting here looking at the salary cap stuff and names and drifted off to thinking about Ray Lewis. Next thing you know, I'm trying to decide which of his hits was my absolute favorite. That's a whole lot harder than I thought. Every time I think I have the list narrowed down, I remember another one and have to add it. I got it down to 4, but other ones keep popping up too. So, here's what I have so far ... not necessarily the hardest, most brutal, etc ... just my favorite(s):

- Block on Keith Burns during Chris McAlister's 107-yard missed FG return against the Broncos
- 4th-and-2 backfield tackle of Sproles in the San Diego game to seal the victory
- Blowin'-up Bam Morris when he tried to hurdle a defender in the KC game
- Taking Dustin Keller -horizontal in the air- against the Jets; so funny in slow motion, he's perfectly parallel to the ground like a cartoon

What about you guys ... what's your favorite?

I always liked when he broke Mendenhall's shoulder.

The "prettiest hit" he ever had was easily the one on Keller.

The Mendenhall hit was one of my favourites. Just a perfect form tackle that destroyed Mendenhall's shoulder and ended up giving him the twinkle toes syndrome. However I can't discount the many times he went head to head (literally) with Eddie George. George was as physical as AP is now, albeit less talented but just as physical, and Lewis would give him a beating in games. George to his credit kept coming, but damn if Lewis didn't knock the crap out of him at least once a game.

His tackle on sproles a few years ago to seal the game is honestly my favorite I believe...

Also,

his hit on Keller
The Ten playoff game
And the hit that led to the pop up where Cmac intercepted

He also had some great hits on sacks in his younger days

Can't tell you the exact game, but Ray hit Eddie George once and George was never the same. These two had a running battle for a few years and Ray always seemed to win the battle.

Besides that, has to be the hit on Sproles to end the SD game.

Still and always will be his blow-up on Darren Sproles at the end of the game against the Chargers in '09, (for a lot of reasons). :D

One of my favorite from this year is when Ray is hurt ... he can't play .. Suggs is going beast with I think 3 sacks at the time and he's sitting on the bench sucking air and Lewis comes over:

"Hunt! Hunt! Hunt! Don't stop huntin'! Don't stop huntin'! 'til you got him up on your wall!"

Beyond all the hits and amazing plays, that's what I will always remember ... he was ALWAYS the General.

EDIT: Just realized these two threads were merged ... not exactly the same topic, but okay. So now you know my favorite hits (some of them) and a favorite moment. :)

Gotta be the interception against Tennessee. He stole Eddie George's heart, and won the game. That play was pure willpower.

He stole Eddie George's will to play the game of football lol.

A big part of what made me become a Ravens fan was seeing Ray Lewis light up a Redskins receiver coming across the middle, get up screaming and slapping his bicep, then win a game which by all rights they should have lost. This was 2004.

So many great moments and I agree with what everyone said. He was the most dominant player and personality in the league for years and years. His impact, legacy as he calls it, won't go quietly. So many players and coaches love and revere him - notice how it's never a player/coach/staffer saying anything negative about Ray; you know, the people who actually know him,

Another moment I loved: perhaps not how he/we wanted it to be put his postgame speech to his team after the Patriots loss in 2011. LINK Contrasting what he said there, and how we felt, it's almost a catalyst for what we became. A team of hard work, loyalty to each other, unafraid of obstacles, and destined for big things.

Ray was a monster on the field, the best ever, but he's a bigger man off of it.

I loved the Sproles hit. But that block he made when CMAC returned that field goal against DEN was one of my favorite RL hits. He was like a lion hunting his prey lol. *Muuuuffffassssaaa*

So dirty. The fact that he waves McAlister out of the endzone to run the ball (smack in the middle of when the Ravens offense was terrible) is awesome. Its almost like Lewis had enough and was like "defense is on the field with the ball in our hands, we're scoring points, to hell with the offense."

Yea ... after a little thinking on it, it's the Dustin Keller hit that is my visual favorite. There's too many to choose from for impact in the game ... just too many. But this one, it's just so beautiful. I want this as a 30" x 20" print on my wall.

For me I always go back to the Chad Johnson hit. I always had an extreme dislike for that guy and I absolutely loved that hit. I just wish he had an identical one for Hine Ward :)
