So, does Ed Reed go too?

54 posts in this topic

I think Ed will hang it up but he obviously can't make any announcements now. This is Ray's time. Ed Reed will probably make an announcement after season's end...and that will be after we hoist the trophy!

To get myself back on topic, I am inclined to think that Reed will either leave, or retire. He wants a higher salary, but there's just no way we can give it to him. His skills have declined, and he is not as reliable as he used to be. He's still a damn good player though. It's difficult to justify his cost, even so. I want him to stay, but it's just not likely in my opinion, especially with Ray now retiring.

They're the number offense in the league. Did you even know that? I think the transactions have gone quite well.

If you're going to talk smack can you try not to be so ignorant?
But, which players, on that offense, besides Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd, were not originally drafted by the New England Patriots? Let's see; right off the bat, we can cross-out Tom Brady, Stevan Ridley, Shane Veeran, Brandon Bolden, Julian Edelman, Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski, Nate Solder, Logan Mankins, Sebastian Vollmer, Ryan Wendall and, why not (seeing how he's the kicker), Stephen Gostkowski. That just leaves only one other starter and one key x-factor, on that offense, that were picked-up as transactions: Dan Connolly and Danny Woodhead. However, unlike Welker and Lloyd, those two were complete unknowns when the Patriots got them.

So, as I was saying, New England has been more miss, than hit, when it has come to free agency, as of recent. Chad Ochocinco was a disaster; and that Albert Haynesworth experiment never took off. Plus, the moment Josh McDaniels went back to the Patriots, EVERYONE knew Brandon Lloyd was going to New England, as well; basically, it was as if Lloyd developed with McDaniels, elsewhere, and then was "called-up" to the Patriots.

Once again, I was just making a point, even though my comment was suppose to be sarcastic. Obviously, I realize Belichick didn't come onto these boards to say Ed Reed is going to sign with the New England Patriots, for next season. Still, the Patriots are up there when it comes to drafting players; Belichick knows how to find the right players coming out of college. But, my point was to say the Patriots haven't gambled so well in free agency, recently; nothing more, nothing less...

Reed is gone, hopefully to retirement but if not and goes to another team at least we can see highlights of people leaping over him or him missing tackles, leaving cornerbacks with no safety help when he jumps routes and know it isn't costing the Ravens points or games anymore.

Wow. We've all seen the man decline the past few seasons and this has easily been his worst season as a Raven but it's as if some folks refuse to acknowledge any positive plays he's made.

It would be sad to see Ed retire (if he does) but I'd rather that than see him playing on another team.

I really think there's something in that. Both the winning the trophy and the timing of Ed's potential announcement.

What number offense? And that's a result of Brady, Welker, and their draft picks not recent FA acquisitions.
Speaking of draft picks, whatever happened to that rugby player they drafted? That seemed like an interesting choice.

Edit: Not a bad pick actually. 1 pick, a fumble recovery, and some decent play time.

Ed ends up in New England next year. Belicheck loves him and he wants a long term deal. And we won't give it to him because he say he's going to retire every year.
I say if he does go, draft Eric Reid from LSU. Guys a playmaker, obviously not in Ed's level, but he would help ease the loss.

I think he's gone. He's making 7.5M this season, no way we can pay him that again. If we win it all, he just retires. If not, then he probably goes to the Pats.

Ed Reed will be picking off an Uggs wearing pretty boy Patriot in the divisional round and play inspired, rejuvenated football in the AFC Championship game leading to New Orleans.

Mark my words.

Is it just me or do any of you want Ed Reed to retire? He's great and I'd love for Baltimore to extend his contract, that just doesn't seem realistic to me though. I would rather see Reed retire then finish his career off on another team other than the Ravens.

i honesty can't see Ed in a city other than baltimore. the idea of him wearing a jersey that doesn't have the maryland flag on the sleeve is just obscene and i hope he thinks so too. if he DOES in fact leave, i hope he either retires as a raven or finds a cushy coaching position here.

I'm definitely leaning in this direction.

Ed won't retire, I don't know why people think this. He can still play above the average NFL level and he knows this. If we don't resign him he's going to go to a team with an offense and decent corner play so he can do what he does best.

He's not going to retire.

I'd like Reed to stay. Beats having to draft a safety when we have more pressing needs. He has stepped up when it comes to tackling but teams have stopped throwing medium passes on his side. He shuts down that aspect of the passing game. We shouldn't be getting rid of all our veterans.

He's talked about retirement as recently as this past off-season, so it's really not that far-fetched. He is 34 years old and the injuries are mounting. On top of that he keeps getting flagged and fined for hits that are completely legit. He just said a couple weeks ago he doesnt even know what is a legal hit anymore. Does he really want to take less money and go to some new city or would he want to go out with the city that has loved him for over a decade. I really doubt there is a long-term deal for him out there at this stage of his career. I think the Ravens might try bring him back for a 2-3 year deal, but the man doesnt even have an agent!

I don't buy into the notion Reed retires because of Lewis. Reed is his own animal that acts on his own ideas. He just does whatever he wants. I can see him retire if we win a Super Bowl. Then again, I can see him return in that scenario, too. I think he means a lot to this team and we will do with him what we did with Ray.

I believe in the end he is a Raven for life.

Also, I could see him go to the Colts of all teams if he did walk away. He has a good relationship with Pagano and the Colts have cap last I read.

Ed is awesome and it would suck to see him go. I am beginning to really like James Ihedigbo though.

I started really liking him since the first Pittsburgh game, when he sacked Leftwich and started "diggin the grave". It looks like he has the "play like a raven" attitude, and he only just turned 29.
