"What matters about me, is sacrificing for you, for the ultimate goal which is us!"

I hope every man takes that to heart this next month and we come out on top!

Realistically, I knew this day would come... but I just never saw myself putting my Lewis jersey in a shadowbox... :(

I'd give my right arm to be at the game Sunday!! Always thought I'd get to see him play live before he retired but it never happened. :(

Enjoy retirement 52.

somebody please tell me that this is his way of motivating the guys to a Super Bowl run, and in the end he decides to play more season. I can't even........

I thought next season after being able to get a full healthy season he would retire.

Brett Favre type retirement? *fingers crossed*

Deion Sanders says so, but I disagree...

''God is calling,'' the 37-year-old Lewis said. ''My children have made the ultimate sacrifice for their father for 17 years. I don't want to see them do that no more. I've done what I wanted to do in this business, and now it's my turn to give them something back.''

Thats why.

No when Ray no longer has a love for the game he said he was done. I think he loves his fam more than the game now and is ready to be dad.

It's the most selfless act. That's why I'm more happy than sad today. He's walking away from the game on the field, the fans who will see him play, but his kids are getting their daddy back. No one can say that's a bad thing at all.

i'm glad that my wife and i made those many home games the last couple of years to watch Ray do his thing LIVE!! we were there at M&T and watched Ray up close and personal come out of the tunnel (we were sitting in that section) vs the Cowboys this year and when he went down and i got the news that he tore his triceps...i told my wife; "We may have just watched Ray Lewis play his last game!" and now...here we are a few weeks later getting this news! wow!

Dear Sports Illustrated,

How is your NFL power rankings a bigger news story than Ray's retirement?

Sincerely
Anybody in their right mind

I hate you Lee Evans!!!!

We would have murdered the Giants last year. Just murdered them.

On the Lewis note, I'm shocked I thought for sure next year would be his last. I remember being young watching football when I started and not really knowing what was happening. Just the basic gist of things and I couldn't figure out why nobody could even move the ball on that 2000 defense and instantly became a fan. Watching Ray throughout the years has left me in shock and awe more often than any player I've seen with my own eyes. Ripping through holes in the line and stuffing HBs, blowing up screens, lighting guys up over the middle, in his early years returning interceptions like he was a 250 pound HB stiff arming guys and running through tackles on his way to the endzone.

The 2000 battle of Lewis vs George epitomizes what Ray Lewis was as a football player to me. Lewis met George in the hole face up, nose to nose countless times and I don't recall a time when George was able to shake Lewis. I've never seen a MLB dominate a star HB like that before in my life, then or since. George gave it his all in that divisional round game and put it all on the line, he could barely walk after the game Fischer rode him so hard, and Lewis didn't break.

That's what I'll always remember about Lewis, he never broke in the battle of will on the field.

as a Raven fan...i'll still be coming to a couple of home games a year but it will not be the same for awhile knowing that #52 is no longer on the field.

Watching Ray's interview his voice is cracking at times. I'm happy for his family, but gosh he'll be missed by us fans.

You can do both. Teenagers ain't trying to hang out with their parents. 0-13 is important and post college once ya start to understand ya parents.

You think he have more time than the ones that work two jobs. He don't come home after work during the season? How much of a commitment is football? Ain't like basketball when ya play multiple games per week.
