Third chance (or is it 10th?) a charm for Cundiff?

With Akers hitting a bad spell, 49ers are working out kickers. Including Cundiff.

NO! NO! NO!

John better get on the phone to Jim ASAP and warn him about Cundiff. Cundiff will ruin the second opportunity at the Super Harbaugh Bowl by costing the 49ers.

hahahaha

You know how John is though. I can hear him now:

"Oh you know, it's the business side. It stinks. He's a talented player and a hard worker. We just had to do what we thought was best overall for the team at that time."

If the Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings, this weekend, that Packers/49ers match-up could honestly feature two of the worst kickers in the NFL, at the moment. Whether it's David Akers, Mason Crosby or Billy Cundiff, one could not ask for a worse trio of kickers, all of which have been on extremely bad cold streaks.

Here's to hoping one of those teams win in regulation, because if not, that game could go on for a very long time. Overtime? How about double overtime? That game could also break the record for most missed field goals, sadly...

Most college kickers are terrible. So many games you see teams go for fakes on 30+ yard field goals because of how unreliable the kickers are. I recall one or two fakes where a field goal would have tied the game but they faked it instead. College football is all about big plays so taking a chance works out more often than not.

If it's a Super Harbaugh Bowl.. with Cundiff & Tucker... I can see Billy making a 90-yarder with how PO'ed he was when before he was let go. I think he said something along the lines of -- "If they don't want me here, I'll just take my services elsewhere."

He'll blast the 90 yarder, but still miss 5 from 40 and under

Well, he still has to compete with Akers. We'll see what pans out.

I just can't believe they signed Cundiff for their playoff run though.

I'm wondering what the heck SF is thinking right now. After the Redskins signed Cundiff, he showed he was still haunted by the AFC Championship last year, and I still don't think he's over it. I guess we shall see what SF reports next week since they can try him out against Akers all week long.

Are the 49ers serious? Why would they do this? The one thing that a kicker in the NFL needs to be able to do is make clutch game winning/game tying field goals. Billy Cundiff has proven that he can't do that. There is no way that Billy Cundiff gives the 49ers a better chance to win than David Akers. If I was a 49ers fan I would not feel comfortable with Billy Cundiff as my kicker in the playoffs.

Akers must be hurting badly if Cundiff is supposed to be an improvement at this point. Maybe the idea is to motivate David to do much better to save his team from being inflicted with Billy.

Gaza: Clinton works for truce 'in the days ahead'
Israeli air strikes shook the Gaza Strip and Palestinian rockets struck across the border as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held talks in Jerusalem in the early hours of Wednesday, seeking a truce that can hold back Israel's ground troops.
Hamas, the Islamist movement air max shoes controlling Gaza, and Egypt, whose new, Islamist government is trying to broker a truce, had floated hopes for a ceasefire by late Tuesday; but by the time Clinton met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu it was clear there would be more argument, and more violence, first.

Hamas leaders in Cairo accused the Jewish state of failing to respond to proposals and said an announcement on holding fire would not come before daylight on Wednesday. Israel Radio quoted an Israeli official saying a truce was held up due to "a last-minute delay in the understandings between Hamas and Israel".

Who is Hamas? 5 questions about the Palestinian militant group.

An initial halt to attacks may, however, not see the sides stand their forces down from battle stations immediately; Clinton, who flies to Cairo to see Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi later on Wednesday, spoke of a deal "in the days ahead".

As she arrived in Israel after nightfall, Israel was stepping up its bombardment. Artillery shells and missiles fired from naval gunboats offshore slammed into the territory and air strikes came at a frequency of about one every 10 minutes.
