If we lose in the playoffs and don't win the SB, I think we ought to give Mike Mularkey a shot at becoming our OC! He did really well with Matt Ryan in Atlanta! With Flacco he can work magic!

If we lose in the playoffs, of course we don't win the SB, silly.

I like Caldwell moving forward. There's just something about the fire in his eyes and looks of determination in the box on gamedays. He has really turned the O around and def got more people involved.

He might be available! The Chiefs are going to clean house after going 2-14. He'll probably be the 1st to go, what with the horrible job he did with Cassel and Quinn.

You can't really say they did a horrible job when they have horrible quarterbacks. Jim Caldwell wasn't a fantastic coach one season and the worst coach in football the next.

Jim "Quiet Fury" Caldwell. He and Flacco have the same disposition, it's great.

Tbh I dont like Caldwell for OC and here is why.

Caldwell has no experience at OC. He is basically running Cam's system with a few tweaks. The system is the problem and while Caldwell's tweaks have improved it so we have a passable offense, ultimately its the system that will lead to inconsistency.

I am not sure that even with a full offseason, Caldwell can design his own system and then install it without growing pains that come from inexperience.

The counter to theis argument would be that since Caldwell will have no system he can effectively design it based on the the players he has, but while having an empty mind is good for this, it also makes it harder for him to create his own playbook.

Id personally rather find an experienced OC like a Mike McCoy (wont happen and I doubt he leaves Denver, I mean why would he?) who will come in and be ready to install their system. In this case, Id rather trust the FO to find a coordinator whose system will fit our players rather than relying on Caldwell or forcing a coordinator to step outside his comfort zone and redesign and coach a system that he would be unfamiliar with.

That being said, I see no one on the market who would be willing to come here and ultimately would do well in Baltimore as an OC, so rolling the dice on Caldwell may not be a bad idea, but I suspect that Caldwell will continue to run Cam's system since Flacco is comfortable with and just tweak the playcalling to make life a little easier on Flacco.

The Jaguars, Bills and Titans earned several more wins than the hapless Chiefs, despite having equally incompetent QBs, offense and defense. It comes to more than just having a bad QB. Chad Henne's as a bad a QB as there is in the league and yet he still kept his teams in games. JAC would've beaten the Patriots if not for his 2 pick-6's at he end, though!

I disagree with your premise. Josh McDaniels didn't have experience has an OC until he became one. Bill Belichick wasn't a DC or a HC until he became one. Harbaugh wasn't a HC before either. The simple fact is, nobody has done anything until they have done it. That's why I don't see Caldwell's inexperience has a good reason for us to move in a different direction. In his short time as OC, he has done well. He has earned his right to be the OC next season.

On your other point about Caldwell keeping Cam's system, I disagree with that as well. Caldwell worked with Manning in a different type of offense. Caldwell has stressed that he wants a quicker offense. Quicker drops, decisions, routes, etc... Everything he has done and said so far indicates his plan to transition to an offense that will resemble the Colts offense from when he and Manning were there. I highly doubt he will stay with Cam's system next year.
that was not meant as an 'either or' statement my friend - just a continuation of the sentence. Slow down on the blitzkrieg a tad! I understand full well that if we lose any game we don't win the SB!

I Agree Lets Try To Get Lovie Smith as our DC and Promote Jim Hostler our WR Coach to OC
No and No!

Lovie will be a HC and Caldwell should get a chance. In the limited time thus far, he's shown promise!

If Jim Caldwell doesn't already have his own system developed I would not consider him a candidate for OC anywhere. All OC candidates MUST have their own system developed that can be customized to the personel. My favorite is still Hue Jackson who is being interviewed by the Jets. I hope he takes his time to consider a team that is more stable and has sent many coaches to head coaching positions including himself.

Caldwell's version of Cam's offense looks like night and day. Calculated deep throws with a good mixture of runs and short passes. Also he has Joe throwing the ball across the middle. Nothing to complain about at all. The offense we ran in Denver was so unpredictable. That throw to Pitta when they had us pinned down in our own territory. Wow. How many people could have predicted that. Joe had options at every level, all over the field. Pitta and Dickson working the middle. Jacoby and Torrey on the Fly routes and Anquan working the out routes. Then switching it up. Insane. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
