Any OC Candidates from Black Monday Fallout?

Of the available NFL-experienced coaches, I'd vote for Hue Jackson. I think there might be more worth looking into in the college coaches out there, though.

I was kinda hopin' we'd be able to hold on to Caldwell for another year or so. (Sidenote; stiller friend of mine is hoping they ditch Todd Haley and pick up Cam Cameron.)

Cam's offense would only work in Pittsburgh because Roethlisberger shrugs off so many sacks.

Give Caldwell a chance before you throw him overboard, why don't you. We haven't had a full season with him at the helm and you're already set to replace him? *smh*

I think a more diverse route tree is more important, then the run-to-pass-ratio. I don't recall us ever trying to set up the big plays with short easy ones under Cameron.
If you demand from your QB to just attack the other team deep down the field and your best receiver is more known for being strong rather then being quick and gaining separation, then you shouldn't wonder why your QB "holds to the ball too long". I believe, that to be the reason why press coverage has been such an issue for the Ravens in this season as well.
Having Boldin on your team and not working the middle of the field borders on the comical, yet we have done so for the majority of the season.
Admittedly Caldwell, seems to do just that, which I believe will be key on overcoming Joe's tendency to be streaky.
I still remember Phil Simms during the AFCCG talking how you need short high percentage throws aka "drive starters" to sometimes get QBs into a game. How our OC couldn't catch something, that one of the worst commentators in the NFL could is beyond me.
I personally don't want us to hire a guy, who is known to use the Air Coryell system like Norv Turner. I much rather see us switch that system entirely to a more West Coast Offense.

I like your post...read it a couple of times and concede your point about pass/run ratios. Your comment about press coverage reminds me of the Philly game...receivers were completely shut down and I remember asking myself why we weren't throwing to Boldin across the middle. I think the game against the Giants was more indicative of what Joe and this offense are capable of and I think Caldwell gets it. Everyone's healthy going into the game against the Colts; I'm hoping for and expecting big things.

I'm happy with Caldwell - what I'd definitely like to see is a guy come in here to be the QB coach who has a West Coast philosophy, like Zorn - Zorn had Joe moving around in the pocket a lot more, and I think people tend to minimize Joe's ability to scramble because he doesn't do it a lot. I don't expect him to be an RGIII out there, but I compare Joe to Roethlisberger, a guy who can move well enough to shrug off sacks, buy time in the pocket and find an open receiver. I think Joe will do very well in the no-huddle, and will do even better if he learns how to move a bit more and buy time, while throwing in a run or two just to keep the defense honest. I think his rookie season Joe rushed for almost 200 yards, and 2010-2011 over 80 yards each year. This season he ran for just 22 yards.

Bo Jackson is avaliable, and I for one believe he would bring a breath of fresh air to this anequated offensive scheme. A new perspective angle from which Bo Jackson and the rest of the offensive coaching staff can do away with the Cam era plays and go back to square one; establishing a new, more streamlined offensive approach. Additionally, Bo Jackson could bring in his own coaching personel, helping him usher in a new, more flexible offensive regime. Under Bo Jackson this offense could bud into a sapling, and over time grow into a beautiful flower. I realize many of you will skeptical of my suggestion, but to that I have only one thing to say to my detractors - "Bo knows". And If Bo knows every sport on earth I'm sure he knows playcalling.

I don't think it's a matter of anyone wanting to throw Caldwell overboard, I think it's more a matter of trying to grab a good offensive mind while one might be available. I for one am fine with giving Caldwell a chance, pending how the offense performs in the playoffs. If they don't look good against a bad Colts defense on Sunday, that's not a good sign though.

I think Caldwell is a great coach and he should get a chance to be the OC coming into next season. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets interviewed for one of the head coaching vacancies. His name hasn't came up yet but it could with a strong playoff run.

However, with Caldwell most likely staying at OC next year there are still a lot of viable qb coach candidates.

There were a lot that were mentioned in the thread already and Jim zorn or Hue Jackson would both be great to have back here coaching joe.

A candidate that hasn't been mentioned is John Mcnulty. He was the QB coach this past year for ARI, and started in ARI in 09 as their WR coach. Before that, he was at Rutgers, coaching WRs in 04 and 05 and he was their OC from 06-08. He was one of the finalists for the Tampa bay OC last season but ended up staying in ARI and becoming the QB coach. I know ARI's offense wasn't anything to look up to, especially their qb play but that's more on the GM then the coaching staff and they were actually doing pretty good before kevin kolb got hurt. Regardless, I think Mcnulty is an up and coming coach and he would be a great candidate as a QB coach and if caldwell gets a HC job in the near future, he would be a great guy to take over as the OC.

I Don't Think Gruden Would Settle For Being A QB Coach. There Is No Way In Hell Mike McCoy Would Leave Denver For Anything Less Than A HC Job.

We wasted a lot of time on Cam and with a possible 100 Mill contract for Joe coming up (especially if he leads us deep into the playoffs), you want to have results ASAP. Again, Cam should've been fired after season 4.

If we lose in the playoffs and don't win the SB, I think we ought to give Mike Mularkey a shot at becoming our OC! He did really well with Matt Ryan in Atlanta! With Flacco he can work magic!
