These names are all too big. Cruz would be nice, but lets get real, he'll be wanting quite a lot of money. Jennings, too. We either need to pick up an undrafted rookie or just stick with what we have. I don't know how I feel dipping into WRs in the draft, especially considering how important it will be to improve our O-Line in the offseason.
Hartline, Amendola and Bowe wouldn't be too expensive, given the stinkers their teams put up this season, going for a combined16-31-1. And Wallace has seriously hurt his stock with his lackluster season with the stalling Steelers.

Amendola is not only a good reciever, but a good returner so that shoots up his price tag. And Bowe is going to get paid, alot. He's athletic, and today's sports are all about "potential" so they'll waste a lot of money for it.

The Jets were in a similar situation at WR coming into this season. They had only 1 star, an aging player and a bunch of young, untested players (Schilens, Hill, Thompson, Reed, Streeter). I think they clearly demonstrated the danger of putting too many eggs into the unproven talent basket. I think adding one of the more obscure free agents (Amendola, Hartline) would be a smart and relatively cheap investment for the future.
The Jets are just one example and frankly, a bad one. Schilens is a walking injury and Hill was even more raw than Torrey coming out of college. With NY's issues at QB, RB and along the OL, they could've had HOF talents at WR and still would've struggled moving the rock.

Players like Amendola or Hartline are complementary WRs at best. Who's to say Doss, Thompson, Streeter or a rookie couldn't fill that role? What's the point of drafting WRs if you never give them opportunities?

Even if Q and Jacoby were somehow both let go in the off-season, I'd rather see what the young players could do than go after a FA WR.

Finally, a couple people voted for Wallace! :P It would be nice to snatch him up from our arch-nemesis. I think he could be worth the risk. He's the fastest receiver in the game, he just needs to practice his routes more. Hopefully, he'd mesh better under Caldwell's system.

Even coming off his down season, it's probably going to cost over $50 million and $20+ million in guaranteed money to sign him. I doubt the team can afford that.

Who do you think would be the best bargain? Hartline?

Assuming he even hits FA (Miami isn't exactly loaded), I guess Hartline could be considered a bargain. But crisp route running and hands are the only pluses he brings to the table. In the limited opportunities he's had, Doss has flashed the same qualities and probably more physical upside.

You can't underestimate those qualities! He had the 15th-most receiving yards, despite playing for a rookie QB. He doesn't make big mistakes, only fumbling once this season.

I'm underestimating them but they're really not attributes that are really difficult to find in WRs. As impressive as Hartline season was, I just don't think he's worth investing in when there are more than a few talented young WRs on the roster who haven't been given extensive time to shine.

I just don't want BAL to end up like OAK, JAC or NYJ, where every receiver is an unproven youngster coming out of college or the practice squad.

But those teams aren't the only ones that have relied on young WRs. And all three had issues well beyond the WRs that caused their passing games to fail. Look at the Steelers and Giants last year or Cincy and Indy this year. They all went with WR corps that featured mostly drafted players and thrived.

We've seen Tandon, LaQuan and Deonte play though. They are all more than capable and have great hands. Imho, it's a much better investment to use the guys we already have. They're talented to begin with.

Perhaps, but it's always good to have some veteran experience to fall back on.

Wallace's price has gone done, true, but what makes you think his season wouldn't be just as lackluster here?

I bet Caldwell and Harbaugh could set him straight! He's still the fastest receiver in the game, anyway.

we have enough speed. what we don't need is a Diva. all about the money, can't catch a cold, and is not even as good as torrey if you ask me. just gets a long ball every once and a while and all of the sudden he considers himself a superstar. I think the Steelers are happy to get rid of him.

FA will be spent on a Olinemen, LB, or DB
We will prob get a WR in the draft!
Nah, it'll probably be the other way around. Lots of great O-linemen available in the draft this year.

I really want Dwayne Bowe but since Boldin is eating up so much of our wr money Danny Amendola would be nice.We need a big 6'3 or 6'4 fast athletic beastly wr.Look at what getting Julio Jones did for Matt Ryan and what Moss did for Brady. When they finally got that big skilled wr to throw to their stats went through the roof.Jacoby is kinda tall at 6'2 or 6'3 but hes not a #1 wr type of guy.He doesnt have the skills.

I just looked at the list of wrs available in 2014(the year Boldins contract is up) and Kenny Britt will be a UFA.I say we just hold tight with Boldin for one more year and jump on Britt if the titans dont franchise him.Or maybe we should see if theyre will to trade him in the offseason.Hed be more than worth it.He has the potential to be the next Calvin Johnson. He just needs a good qb.

I just can't see the point in investing in a WR in free agency. I'd rather go with one of the free agent TEs. Fred Davis from Washington, Jared Cook from Tennessee, Dustin Keller from the Jets, Tony Gonzalez from the Falcons, and of course Heath Miller from Pittsburgh. Add in Delanie Walker from the 49ers are all free agents. Gonzalez is probably hanging them up, and Keller will most likely get tagged but Miller, Walker, Cook, & Davis are all decent players. Davis had some injuries this year, so that could drop his price. The Steelers might be against the cap and it may be difficult for them to retain Miller. Cook is in my opinion the best of the bunch and he doesn't look like he's returning to the Titans.

Brandon Myers is also a free agent, and he is similar to our Dennis Pitta. Good receiver not so good blocker.

I'm just saying, I'd rather go TE than WR in free agency. I'd really rather go LT than any of them, but we might not have the money. I am thinking more and more that most of our free agents walk yet again. I think we keep Ellerbe, though. I also believe there is a strong chance Ed Reed returns. Flacco is definitely staying.

if getting a LT is the only thing we do in free agency, i'll be very satisfied. this certainly won't be a quiet offseason.
