2013 Mock draft 2.0

Round 1: to be honest I think by draft time there may be a chance that Barkevious Mingo or Dion Jordan fall; however, they'll both most likely put up disgusting numbers at the combine which may sky rocket their stock once more, but I think one of these two will fall to us but its definitely a long shot.
Thus I propose the more realistic option of getting Chance Warmack as in my previous mock. You can give me the ol' he'll never make it out of the top 5, the top 10, top 15 w.e. The truth is Guard is not a sexy pick for teams, so they tend to fall. He Could make a lot of problems on offence disappear almost over night. His presence improves the running game, red zone offence, and subsequently stats like pocket time, time of possession, and third down conversions would increase. Our defence looks a lot better when it isn't play 65%+ of the snaps.
Round 2: Khaseem Greene - ILB for Rutgers. Recently named the best defender to have ever come out of Rutgers, Greene is a converted safety so his coverage skills are above average for most linebackers. I like him even more than Ogletree, as Greene attacks the line, has good initial contact, and makes plays. All I ever see Ogletree due is run himself out of position to make a play, or he can't get off a block, or he catches the running back after a 5 yard gain, I really don't see why this guy is getting the hype outside of the athleticism. Greene has roughly the same athleticism with better tape.
Round 3: Phillip Thomas - FS - Fresno state. Unfortunately Fresno' D can't stop a nosebleed so most of his film is him in run support. However he seems quite athletic and is highly touted for his coverage skills which are unfortunately hard to judge with the youtube "film" I have access too. But he is quite willing to support the run, and with the Ravens thats a big plus especially out of a FS. I think our DB coach could do wonders with this kid.
Round 4: Kyle Long OT Oregon. (Son of hall of famer Howie Long) - Haha I know what you're thinking, this is synonymous to when Casey Matthews came out and we wanted him simply because he had his brothers hair who was D MVP that year, and their dad also had a productive career. But if you take a hard look at Kyle Long, he's got prototypical size at 6'7" 310 pounds, quick feet, athletic, and smart. Someone had to pave the way for all those successful Oregon running backs. He looks very strong on film, and if he fixed up his footwork, could become a monster. He will fall due to character concerns, and a fairly strong Offensive line class in general.

That's easier said than done, unfortunately, because I don't see really any true LT worthy of our 1st round pick. The top ones will be gone and the ones left probably won't be that great. What are your opinions on Eric Fisher from Central Michigan? I know his competition isn't exactly the best of the best, but he seems dominant right now and has awesome size. He could be there at the end o the first.

anyway, thats a pretty nice draft you got there. i like Greene and Thomas. I put Minter as my second and Duke Williams as my third.

I really like the other guys you've mocked as well, and I agree that we don't need a new QB or WR from the first round. Do you think Philip Thomas could be a day one starter if need be?

Getting Warmack would be awesome, but it would be a whole lot better if we got a full-fledged LT. Getting an LT effectively improves three o-line positions (LG, LT, RT) at once. Oher would be once again back on the right side and KO could move into the LG spot.

Yeah when it comes to LT's I don't want to be that team that invests a first in a 2nd or 3rd round talent out of desperation. Your best value is going to come from drafting a stud like warmack, and then getting a FA LT maybe or see what Long can do.....anyone with the name long usually turns out alright haha.

I really like that draft. I'd probably drop Warmack for maybe Barrett Jones (depending on how Gino would go at center) or some other first-round LT. In fact, my first pick would be one of the three best d-line run stuffers if they fall that far.

not without growing pains, but i believe like peirce, he'd really hit his stride by the end of the season.

To me that would be great to get a good linebacker who can cover in the 2-3 round so we could focus on fixing the offensive line in the first round. I looked at Warmack a little bit awhile ago and I really liked him. Unfortunatly I don't think it would be a situation like in last years draft when Decastro (I think it's his name) fell to the steelers last year.

I like how Greene is a converted safety. I haven't looked at prospects tapes yet, but I'm definitly gonna check him out.

weirder things have happened, I have a bit of a man crush on him though, he's just dominant. Linebacker is a position these days thats become slightly under valued, you no longer need a Lewis, or willis type player but it helps if you do. A second or third round talent would fill in just as nicely, but we need to knock off the UDFA plug and play mind set. We've lucked out with ellerbe and Mc Clain but right now we have no proven talent behind them.

I wouldn't take long that early mainly because he's a projected 6th-UDFA pick but I like the picks for the most partalright so I've been throwing my 2 cents around pretty heavily about what our draft needs are, so this bares the question "so what would you do then if you're so smart....". So I've decided to answer that question first by telling you I don't particularly find myself very intelligent so don't think this is a huge boasting thread, I just think my approach is more logical than spending a first or second round pick on a WR or QB.

Warmack is far better than de Castro last year, I can't see him making it to the 20s. He's easily top 3 if teams drafted purely BPA
what makes you say "way better"? I heard Decastro being compared to Steve Hutchison, and the best guard prospect since steve hutchison etc etc. Seems hard to believe he would be way better, perhaps just a tad better....

I saw a mock on walter football which placed him in the 3rd but realistically at this time its way too early to make any reasonable projections outside of round 1, and maybe 2. Anything after that is purely speculation subject to a vast amount of change after the senior bowl, and the combine, and pro days etc etc.

I also love the Game [profanity deleted] safety, DJ Swearinger as a late round developmental prospect. I think he has play like a Raven written all over him, and worst case scenario we get a special teams Ace. Checkout his highlight tape, the man lays the wood.

Wow. Looks impressive. I love his bloodlust. Could he play free? I'd like to see some tape on the kid too.

All I can see right now is highlights, but his fellow safety is listed as a S/OLB (Devonte Halloman) so I think Swearinger was a FS. His speed is deceptive as he reportedly runs a 4.7...which is quite pedestrian for a secondary player but he doesn't look out matched on the field. Would love to see some game tape.Wow.
