Ellerbe has been our best ILB this season, including Ray.

The Defense has looked very good for the most part since Peas moved upstairs
Agreed. Even against the Broncos, they looked good for the first half.. and then everyone just gave up

Oh I don't doubt that, I've thought Ellerbe was one of the better ILBs on this team since his first year, he just needed to be humbled a bit.

The reason I asked serious, is because I wanna make sure this is the same Ellerbe people wanted to get rid of last year, the same Ellerbe that people said Ozzie was crazy to give a 2nd route tender on.

Ellerbe has to be re-signed, he brings so much energy and intensity to the middle of the field and he can blitz with the best of them
yes. Even more so than ed reed. I just hope his play isn't a "I need a contract" extra effort type of play. But he's been our best player this year on defense when he's been fit IMO. A very present surprise.

And yes, after he was so overweight and awful against ne in the playoffs I didn't even want to tender him.

That's true as well. Our offense controlled the ball, and the defense stayed rested.
When that happens, it's incredible to watch what happens.
This to the 1000 power.

Offense just had too many three and outs this year. Especially with the hurry up which some fans may confuse it with hurry up and get off the field.

If I heard it right the announcers stated that the Ravens offense is last in the league in ten play plus drives.

I think he let them play some press man today. Defense impressed except for that 3rd drive where they drove on us like a practice drill.

I guess he has a better view from up in the box!

What injuries?! Haha

Our D looked SPECTACULAR.. we got pressure on manning, played well against the run and our corners played shut down D. Hopefully we can keep up this level of play!

I'm not going to lie, I'm still pretty disappointed in the pass defense. BUF is ahead of us in sacks and safeties? Really? Tied for 19th in INTs, behind the Saints' post-Bounty Gate defense?!

Only 8 teams have allowed more rushing ypg than BAL! Even TEN has a better run defense than the Ravens! The Ravens are also tied for 25th worst rush TD defense, allowing 15 TD in 16 games, putting them behind CLE's atrocious run D, which has allowed 14 TD. :bag:

i kept telling everyone in the room that our old d was back! ahaha but seriously we havent seen play like that for a looong time. really glad we could get omar back, that kid can really ball. and ellerbe is starting to become a monster! such a bs call on his sack!

I really like the package with 5 LBers and 6 DBs. The opposition doesnt know who is blitzing and who is dropping back. It often results in getting pressure and Omar Brown got his sack out of this look. I love the creativity!

With Ellerbe back to business and Lewis, Pollard and Williams on the horizon, I think we have a bright playoff campaign ahead. BAL will likely face DEN or NE on the road in the Semis, so they'd better be ready to hit the road running. Pees has a tough job ahead of him reintegrating them back into the defense, which has morphed quite a bit in their steed.

Ellerbe and Ngata are back at almost 100%. ...not sure how Suggsy is feeling or if Jimmy is at full strength. We are going to need a fired-up D in the playoffs for teams like Houston and NE, if we make it that far.

I don't see any of the top 3 teams losing, so the seeding will stay the same. Only wayy the Ravens and NE play is in the AFC Championship Game. Only way they'll play DEN, is if the Bengals beat the Pats, which is possible.

The Ravens are looking at the Colts and Texans likely. I like both of those matchups a lot for the Defense. As you say, with Ray, Ellerbe, Pollard, Jimmy, Ngata and Suggs all on the mend health wise, paired with Kruger, Upshaw, Cody, Williams, Graham, Ihedigbo, Browns, Jones and McPhee all playing at a high level right now, I love the D.

It still all depends on the offense, but if Joe can get the D a lead and let them hunt, the Ravens will be really tough to beat

By the way, one thing with our defense that not many seem to be talking about is the huge lack of turnovers in recent weeks. Hopefully that changes in the playoffs.

As I've said before, BAL is tied for 19th in INTs, just ahead of JAC. However, BAL is tied for 8th in recovered fumbles, just behind SEA.

Darn, I forgot about Pollard, we are more potent with him while Ray Ray is more there for emotional support.

I think you are forgetting a game. We don't have a bye this year so we will most likely travel to Houston if we beat the Colts at home (assuming the Texans dont lose to Indy this week). If we beat Houston we will go to the winner of NE/Den. Not an easy road by an stretch. I will likely be rooting for the Pats to beat the Broncos as I think we match-up better with them and we know we can go into their home field and win.

The defense has looked amazing the last 2 games and Pees influence is now shining through. If he can get these guys to be solid just imagine what he can do with our stars back next season. Is a very hopeful glimpse into the future.

What game did I miss? I said they are looking at the Colts and Texans. The Colts would be wildcard and Texans Divisional, unless then Bengals beat the Pats, then the Ravens go Den. However, only way the Ravens and Pats play is the AFCCG, because they are both Wildcard teams.

We will end up playing either Denver or NE in the AFCCG assuming we make it past Houston. The way your post read it sounded like we would likely miss Den unless NE lost in the first round.

I have to say, I think our improved defense is highly attributed to Ellerbe returning. We lost three games without him. I'm not sure that is a coincidence. He is playing for a contract and he is definitely getting one. If the FO moves on from Lewis from either cutting him or him retiring, I believe Ellerbe will stay for sure. If Lewis stays, I think there is still a chance for him to return.

No the post I quoted said the Ravens would likely play NE or DEN in the semi/Divisional. Round. That's why I said the only way we play Denver is if the Pats lose.
