Bogus Call on Reed

56 posts in this topic

That was total bull you know what....refs were awful all day, but that one could be a fine and suspension. Harbs is gonna have to call the league office again and plead his case. No helmet to helmet at all - totally clean hit. What say you guys?

I wish they had sensors in the pads so we could see where the majority of the impact actually was. To me, I saw two guys who are about the same height, one getting hit in the upper chest by the other guy's shoulder. I run it through my head and I cannot think of a way that a hit like that can happen without at least a little incidental helmet-to-helmet. Just saying...

I would be really surprised if there will be a fine on that one, it really looked like the shoulder hit and the helmet just slightly bumped.

Yeah...I have a bad feeling about Ed Reed getting suspended. He was a target before this game. They may get him here. I really hope he doesn't get suspended, but if he is suspended and it is only one game I would want this game to be it.

you're too kind... these refs called everything today... what they saw and never was and what they didn't see but had a dream about

I was at this game and I haven't heard louder Boos in a long time after that play; the Torrey Smith penalty equally just as bad.

These refs tried everything in the book to get the Giants back in the game including the Torrey block , the phony false start in Oher when the Giants were offside and on and on .

It was disgraceful .

Oh add in the Jacoby Jones td recalled
That one was iffy, Calvin Johnson rule applied and it wasn't a TD.

If something happens I hope it's only for 1 game obviously.

But even if he doesn't get fined/suspended I hope we choose to rest him. He's always banged up and it could give him an extra week to heal up and prepare for whoever we face in the wildcard round. (Probably the Colts).

Let Omar Brown start at FS.

Not the CJ rule, actually. Catching and then breaking the plane and being caught IN the endzone are two different plays altogether.

No it wasn't. Johnson's was in the endzone, completely different rules. He caught it before the endzone and should have been considered a runner. At that point he breaks the plane with control. The drop after shouldn't have mattered cause he had control before but whatever. They called something back like that against Gresham last year that worked in our favor. Ill consider it karma. I think if Jacoby had taken another step he would've been given the td.

Two wins today in my book. One against the Giants, the other against the Zebras.

Great game by everyone.

Now, onto Reed -- in the words of Pollard -- "They better not fine him." or suspend him. I've seen other DBs get away with much worse this year. Disgraceful.

Had almost forgot all about that. But yeah... karma... Lets get all that bad karma out of the way before the playoffs this year.

Its funny they showed the replay and his helmet was NO WHERE NEAR cruz's helmet but the announce.. maybe aikman? or the other guy said after 2-3 replays "clearly a helment to helmet hit" me and the guys i watched it with were like.. what? Im not going to say it wasnt a shoulder to head hit but helmet to helmet?

They should look at this, correct? If that's the case, they should see that it wasn't an illegal hit. At least, I hope that's how it works.

I just don't understand what the defender is supposed to do in that situation. Let the receiver catch it?!? I mean if the receiver lowers his head, he is no longer defenseless... So how is that a flag?
I played safety in HS and my coach would have been proud of me if I made that hit.
And that TD call on Jacoby was ridiculous. His second act was him reaching the ball over the goaline... How that go overturned, I will never understand. The announcers even said that the same crew of officials got it wrong earlier in the season, so obviously they need to brush up on the old rule book.

Gosh, my buddy and I were almost ready to leave the stadium once that bogus unnecessary roughness call on Ed Reed was called, seeing how the game was over by that point. Clearly, at no point, did Reed's helmet come anywhere close to touching Victor Cruz's helmet. That "penalty" was shown over-and-over, again, on the jumbotrons and Ed Reed only lead with his shoulder. If the game was pretty close, at that moment, I'm 100% positive the crowd would have started another "coo manure" chant because every member of The Flock was ticked!

I mean, as others have pointed out, the referees definitely called a lot of ridiculous penalties against the Ravens, today: Ed Reed's unnecessary roughness penalty, Torrey Smith's blindsided block, Terrell Suggs' phantom offsides penalty (when Dannell Ellerbe nano-blitzed Eli Manning on the Giants first drive), and even that penalty were the offensive line got in trouble, even though New York's defensive line jumped offsides first.

Just crazy; sometimes, as it has been said before, it seems like one team, more often-than-not, actually has to play both the opposing team and the zebras. The one positive, if Ed Reed gets suspended, is that this Ravens/Bengals game is meaningless, for the most part. Hey, at least that means Ed Reed is going to be angry, come playoff time!

Terrible call. I wish the officials would stop assuming every big hit is an illegal one.
this^! Especially on QB's, my favourite part of the game is seeing a defender fly around the QB's blind side, and light the QB up!!!!!! Now a days if you don't, gently caress the QB into a firm but not too tight hug and ever so gently introduce him politely to the ground...laundry everywhere...If they're on the field they can get hit! If they have a concussion HOLD THEM OUT of the game, its not rocket science.

Very clean hit.

But with the combinations of; the game speed, the league cracking down on "helmet-to-helmet" hits and our crowd going crazy after the hit... I wasn't surprised the flag was thrown.

I don't think it should've been, especially after replay, but we have the benefit of replay, the officials at that moment in time do not.
Jermaine Gresham made a very similar play to what Jacoby did today and it was ruled an incompletion, on the big board it clearly looked that he did not maintain absolute posession upon crossing the plain.
Doesn't matter, as soon as the ball crosses the plain it's suppose to be a touchdown. Also him stretching out is the second act
