House Cleaning

101 posts in this topic

I still think there need to be many offseason changes, mostly personnel. The possibility of moving on from Lewis, Reed, Boldin, Birk, and Leach is very real. They are all old and/or declining in performance. The NFL is business and we cant afford to hold onto players for sentimental reasons.

Who seriously wants Boldin gone? Other than Pitta, he's our best go to that'll convert on first down. Ray will stay! Reed on the other hand might leave, and that's a big might. Let these veterans mentor our young team, then let them retire. Hopefully with a Superbowl ring. Reed deserves one, so does Boldin, and Ray definitely deserves one more. I'm not eager to watch these legends wear another jersey, thinking about it makes my stomach sick.

I feel like Boldin would stay if we restructure. Leach, isn't going anywhere.

Yeah he'd have to. He's not staying for six million. Whats our cap next year anyway?

I wouldnt mind cleaning house. Imo that is the best and fastest way to transition from one era to the next while staying competitive. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Boldin etc... are all great, but they would cost us 21 million should we give Reed his 8 million but even if we only gave him 5, 18 mil is still too much. These guys are HoF for sure, but they are preventing us from improving our team in areas it needs to improve in to stay competitive or in actuality to win a super bowl (like the o-line at LT).

While Ray is a HoF and Boldin is one the best receivers we have had, both are fairly replaceable from a production standpoint. Losing Reed is a much more powerful blow, but I am confident with 18 mil in cap space, we can find a suitable replacement.

You're forgetting that Flacco is GOING to either get a big deal... or cost us about 15 mill per.. that cuts into your number

Yea but Im also figuring that Ozzie will structure the deal in a way that leaves us a fair amount of cap to work with.

Something like 7 million year 1, 8 million year 2 with a roster bonus etc....

well the franchise tag isnt a deal now is it? If its the tag we are screwed anyway you look at it as cuts will have to be made to get us under the cap.

There would be no need for that if we do happen to go one and done. Because, we've had success in the past 5 seasons.

Yeah, we might have to change our approach to things and get back to establishing a grind-it-out mentality that I believe we've lost... but a "house cleaning" pshh give me a break.

5 playoff appearance in the past 5 seasons NO OTHER team is in that category with us. Our coaching staff and players are safe.

I don't have the stats, but as far as I can remember, the Ravens have never 'one and done' in the playoffs. I don't know if any other NFL team can make that claim.

Leach will be here, Rice is such a powerful weapon I can't see us losing him.

I imagine Reed and Lewis will both retire. I think McClain and Ellerbe can both step up at MLB, FS is a problem is Omar Brown the guy? I think we'll hit FA to get a vet with Brown as backup. I think there will be massive changes on the O-Line with only Osemele and Yanda staying. Oher to be traded.

Really not sure what will happen with Boldin, I'd love to see us make a real push and get Bowe but that seems unlikely.

LMAO, in what universe is Boldin not worth his money but Flacco is worth more than double what he makes.

If Boldin had a quarterback that was even close to consistent not only from game to game but from quarter to quarter he'd have much better stats. Flacco get's stats because of Boldin's strong hands and body, Boldin does not benefit from anything in Flacco's game nor does any other reciever.

He's 32 and it's 6 million dollars. If he were that good he'd be open and he's not. Done.

The offensive line situation for next year scares me. I don't want to see Flacco struggling with a Cutler-esque situation on the front lines. I wonder if Gradkowski is ready to step up to the plate when Birk leaves. The Jets are pretty desperate, so maybe we could acquire Nick Mangold in the offseason.
