Hdtv Help!

10 posts in this topic

I have been looking into buying an HDTV. I need a TV ranging from $500-$1000. I am a huge football fan (OBVIOUSLY) and I love playing games like madden and gears of war 2. So I was wondering if anyone

had a TV that they use to watch football and plays games or if you could give me some suggestions on what to look for....such as go for a LCD or plasma.... or for a certain brand name.....?

THANKS TO ANYONE THAT RESPONDS!

Sony's the best. After that I'd go with Samsung TVs. Then it's a crapshoot after that. But your in luck, because TV prices are usually the lowest during the month of November. Plus with the economy the way it is, there are some good choices out there.

Here's the 500 - $999 Samsung TV list on Amazon. I'd probably go with a 40-inch if you can.

Out of that list, I think this is one of the better ones:

Yea I have two HDTV's now. And one old box tv , whenever I see that thing it makes me sick. TV's prices have really started to come down over the past few years. Next purchase will be to upgrade my little box tv to a 30" inch LCD HDTV.

I don't even go to the normal channels anymore, unless it's something I really want to see. I love football on HDTV.

Sony makes quality stuff, but my issue with them is longevity. I am convinced that they design stuff to fail after "X" amount of time. It's for this reason that I stopped buying their stuff. My Step Dad is in the Home Entertainment Biz and he agrees (although he still sells the stuff).

For anyone wanting to make a big purchase like this I would go to CNET and/or Consumer Reports and see how they've been rated. Ya can't go wrong there. I got a great deal on a Vizio a couple years ago. I've had no issues and I love the quality. Had I waited though, I could have upgraded 3"-5" for the same price. I'm sure all HDTV owners are aware of this.

Yea make sure you read customer reviews & site reviews on tvs. Make sure it comes with a few HDMI inputs. 1080p is the best. But if you go 40" or less, you can save money with 720p and can't tell too much of a difference.

You'll get the best deals around this time though.

I have been lusting over the flat screens when I go to BJ's and Wally World, they had 25 flat screens showing football highlights--I could have stayed for hours.

CNet is a great place to research TVs.

And the thing with TV's is you buy one, then like two months later , the newer model comes out, and the TV you just bought drops even more.

Sony might do that. But I'll tell you what. I have never seen a more crystal clear picture than on most their TVs.
